I think rosesaharon was talking to the public with that comment, that in general, people’s children will remember… And he/she (?) was commending what you did, as would I.
yitayningwutParticipantbump
yitayningwutParticipantWow this one is really done well, these guys just keep getting better.
yitayningwutParticipantI would tayna that you can’t go wrong with this mitzva.
If ?????? ?????? ?????? ???? ???? ???? then l’choirah a mitzva should be no different, no?
yitayningwutParticipantPopa – Hey, you dared me, and that’s the first thing that came to my mind. I was farmished.
Mod 80 – You’re a riot. Lol.
yitayningwutParticipantI don’t even believe that you are married, Popa, so there.
yitayningwutParticipantPopa – do you mean to say 1) that they are dumb for not getting married, 2) for not being able to get married, 3) or simply because intelligence is only shayich by someone who is married, or 4) are you being facetious, in which case I can ask the reverse of tzdadim 1 and 3?
yitayningwutParticipantHaha
*rolling eyes and snorting, trying to hide laughter*
yitayningwutParticipantI searched Beis Aharon for a sign today and did not see one. So, if there is indeed such a new rule, I am not responsible.
yitayningwutParticipantLol Jothar great idea
yitayningwutParticipantYou aren’t amused?
yitayningwutParticipantCharlie – lol 😉 Keinaina Hara there are lots of guys araingetuhn in Beis Aharon.
Chacham – Welcome back. Did you end up finding a good place this zman?
yitayningwutParticipantI’m waiting till I can load the entire ????????? on to it. And HebrewBooks too, and I know those are PDFs but I really still need Hebrew text. When it happens it will be amazing though.
yitayningwutParticipantHow much memory do these things have? Would I be able to load it with the entire HebrewBooks.org? That would be awesome, I could come to yeshiva every day and have a library at my Shtender!! I do really need Hebrew text though.
yitayningwutParticipantQ. Why do we say Al Chet by Mincha on Erev Yom Kippur?
A. 1) Because someone might choke on his food at the Seuda Hamafsekes and not get a chance to daven again.
2) Because someone might get drunk at the Seuda Hamafsekes and be hung over all Yom Kippur!! (Yup, the Rambam actually lists this reason!)
yitayningwutParticipantI guess it would make sense that I didn’t see a sign being that I learn in Beis Aharon?? Or I was just araingetuhn??
charlie brown- Lol:)
yitayningwutParticipantThis is true? There is a sign? Where???
yitayningwutParticipantLipa – Meimke D’Lipa
It’s not only fast songs, but it has lots of them and they are great.
yitayningwutParticipantI am leaning to believe that this is not true, as I was there for first seder and did not hear anything of the sort.
zahavasdad-
I would buy a Kindle in a heartbeat if it supported Hebrew text and I knew how to load seforim on to it. And while it would definitely take time, maybe a few years, I think many others would too.
yitayningwutParticipantObaminator –
I do not believe you are correct historically. I think that the “litvishe” mehalech always left room for a lot of diversity, and precisely because it was never too interested in a specific “hashkafa” the way others were. Look at the diversity of those who came out of Slabodka, what yeshiva comes close to that nowadays? Come on, from R’ Shach and R’ Aharon to the Seridei Eish and even Saul Leiberman and Shmuel Atlas, and of course R’ Hutner, R’ Ruderman and so on.
Personally I believe that many of the current yeshivas which are descendants of that system are not that way anymore because of the great influence other segments of Klal Yisroel has had on them. And that influence is so clear and obvious; just to demonstrate – would anyone dream 100 years ago of looking for bottles of wine bentched by a litvishe rav the way these tzedakah organizations do these days?
I also think that the world has in general become much more emotional and less attuned to good old fashioned detached intellectual discussions.
yitayningwutParticipantThanks folks again. These are great. One thing though, I’m also looking for something a little lighter. Something written very simply, with short and easy to understand points. Get what I’m saying?
yitayningwutParticipantLol thanx guys for the corrections, it’s interesting to know.
yitayningwutParticipantPrincessEagle- hi:) and thanx!
yitayningwutParticipantROTFL!! Good one Wolf 🙂
yitayningwutParticipantI agree with the Mesilas Yesharim advocates, though the first perek really cannot be understood properly without a lot of background. But the rest I think is very worthwhile even if you don’t have a rebbi or a commentary offhand.
I am still going with Alei Shur though, if you have a decent command of Modern Hebrew. It’s a masterpiece and written by someone who lived in our generation.
yitayningwutParticipantObaminator – I wasn’t the only one who thought as I did then, and I don’t believe things would be different here. And having gone through almost the entire spectrum of the Litvishe system – Lakewood for HS and Beis Medrash, then Mir (Jerusalem), Ner Israel (Baltimore), and now BMG – and as someone who asks questions, reads books, and listens to what my rabbeim have to say, I feel confident enough to believe that I am not way off base.

Interestingly enough, I actually had a book once that listed all of the Jewish baseball players ever, and it noted that the Yankees have never had a Jewish player. This was a little while ago however, and they may have had one or two since then. The Mets have had a couple though, including Scott Schoeneweis and Sean Green.
yitayningwutParticipantAbA, Thanks a lot
yitayningwutParticipantLol
yitayningwutParticipantSam2, Not a raya one way or the other. Litvak’s can be very diverse. I didn’t say you were a Brisker. Although you might claim that you learn at a branch of Brisk…
yitayningwutParticipantI knew you were a litvak!

Likewise 🙂
“with a fairly outgoing personality” where do you pick that up from?!!
Haha. I would say that all your questions prove that I was right about that.
October 4, 2011 8:51 pm at 8:51 pm in reply to: Why do some people DAVKA stress the wrong part of words while davening or leining? #814383yitayningwutParticipantweirder mentsh (come on why couldn’t there be an h in midwesterner) – I hear but I still think the point of the Midrash is chill out a bit on the dikduk critiquing.
yitayningwutParticipantYou are right.

Lol, please don’t take offense! Truth is I just thought to put up the name of any woman in her twenties with a fairly outgoing personality. You are the one who popped into mind, though I don’t know if my judgment about your age was accurate.
As for my name – it’s “you are tayna-ing what?” with a yeshivishe accent, a catch-phrase that can mean various things based on context, such as “Explain, please, exactly are you talking about,” or “Aha… that’s what you mean!” or You mean to say – what??!!” etc. I hope this elongated explanation didn’t cause my yeshivishe colleagues to roll their eyes… 🙂
October 4, 2011 8:25 pm at 8:25 pm in reply to: Why do some people DAVKA stress the wrong part of words while davening or leining? #814381yitayningwutParticipantTo all you critical people out there, read the Midrash on Shir Hashirim 2:4 –
??? ?’ ???: ?? ???? ????? ????? ????, ????: ?????, ??????. ??? ????? ???? ???: ??????? ??? ????. ??? ?’ ?????: ????? ????? ??????? ??????, ???????? ???????, ???????? ???????. ??? ????? ???? ???: ???????? ??? ????
yitayningwutParticipantHolyMoe – Good raya.
yitayningwutParticipantGood people
yitayningwutParticipantR’ Chaim Volozhiner would probably object to Nefesh Hachaim being referred to as mussar. It’s more machshava/hashkafa.
October 4, 2011 7:28 pm at 7:28 pm in reply to: I've got a twin on here… Can anyone guess who it is… #816050yitayningwutParticipantWell now that she’s been blocked it seems there’s only one more person who knows. Except the omniscient mods… And lol I didn’t think you were as young as GumBall – it’s when I recalled how young she was that I retracted from that guess.
Btw it’s yih-tie-ning-what. Yeshivishe catch-phrase.
yitayningwutParticipantha ha ha ha
yitayningwutParticipantI heard it about the entire Gemara.
I have a shtickel raya that it’s not true, from the story of Rabba and R’ Zeira in Megilla (7b). One year at the Purim seuda, Rabba got drunk, shechted R’ Zeira, and then brought him back to life. The next year Rabba invited R’ Zeira again, but R’ Zeira declined, saying he was worried Rabba would shecht him again and a miracle wouldn’t occur this time.
Now, if this were true, 1) Why was it called a miracle? They knew how to do it, presumably through heejee beejee, so why would you call it a miracle? and 2) What’s the big deal? Just bring along some friends as backup, if Rabba can’t resuscitate him the others will!
yitayningwutParticipantVery nice mashal.
yitayningwutParticipantSo maybe Hashem is happy with the Out of Towners but unhappy with the In Towners… Lol.
October 4, 2011 6:28 pm at 6:28 pm in reply to: I've got a twin on here… Can anyone guess who it is… #816048yitayningwutParticipantI don’t even know, I just took a guess. Now that I see your spelling I’m guessing you’re not from the US, so that rules you out anyway. And of course you’re noticed! 🙂
yitayningwutParticipantI’ve heard it too. Never saw the source though. Try googling it.
yitayningwutParticipantThe Goq-
I don’t know, I think CC must have had some “syata d’shmaya” (lashon sagi nahor) in allowing so many walks last night. It’s interesting though, I though we were getting a break when the first game got delayed until after Yom Tov, I thought it was hasgacha for us Yidden to be able to enjoy the game. My, how the tables have turned.
Sam2-
Haha. But l’mayseh there are more Jews here than there so if Hashem wanted to clear the greatest amount of heads he’d knock out the Yankees before the Tigers. So it’s really not just that the world revolves around New York. Though that’s also true…
yitayningwutParticipantSam2, you are a litvak.
October 4, 2011 6:05 pm at 6:05 pm in reply to: Something I noticed a lot of people do because they probably dont know this #1033344yitayningwutParticipanthello99-
Wow! Thanx for all those mareh mekomos.
