Haha it’s really not that hard. Okay a hint. It has been the subject of many heated debates here. January 20, 1961 is a significant date in history to a lot of people who argue about it. Now you have no excuse not to get it. :p

You missed my raya. Obviously he thinks they are bowing to Muhammad because otherwise he wouldn’t have a hava amina that they are only doing it ??????.

Sorry I left out the source of the Ran. It’s in his Chiddushim to Sanhedrin 61b.

The word Allah should be accorded the same respect as the word God. If anything Allah has more chashivus, since it is related to Elohim.

You are misquoting the Ran. The Ran does not simply say that any religion which bows is Avodah Zarah, even if they are bowing to Hashem. Besides for the fact that that wouldn’t make any sense – because we do that too on RH and YK – if you read his words you see it’s not what he means. He writes:

    ?????? ???? ??????? ?? ????? ??? ?????? ?? ????????? ??”? ???? ????? ?????? ?????? ????? ????? ???????? ?????? ??????? ?? ????? ??? ?”? ?? ??? ??? ???, ??? ????? ??? ?? ??????? ?????, ???? ????? ?????, ??? ?????? ????? ?? ????? ??? ??????

He is basing his ruling on his belief that the Moslems bow to Muhammad, and not just a bowing of respect but a bowing of ?????. His whole proof that they are bowing a bowing of ????? is because you don’t bow to a dead person simply out of respect. It is clear, therefore, that his issue with the bowing is the fact that they bow to Muhammad, who is dead, and if they would not bow to Muhammad, his whole vort would not start.

The Moslems do not bow to Muhammad.

R’ Ovadia is in YO III YD 15. His conclusion:

    ???? ???? ???????? ?? ?????? ??? ??? ??? ??? ????? ???, ????? ?????? ?????. ?????? ??”? ???? ?????? ???????? ?????? ?????? ?? ????? ??? ?”? ?? ???, ?”? ????? ??? ???? ??? ?? ?”? ????”? ?????? ?? ??? ???? ??. ?????? ????”? ??? ??? ??? ?????

    Sam2 –

With all due respect, it’s a davar pashut that he is mistaken. R’ Ovadia also has a teshuva and says it’s pashut that the Ran didn’t see the Rambam and paskened the way he did from a lack of accurate information (which is clear, understanding as he lived in Christian Spain at a time when there were lots of Christians making up stories about how Islam is an idolatrous religion; you can find this all online). It is 100% mutar to enter a mosque (and daven and learn there too if you’d like).

Allah is a world which the Rambam, in his writings in Arabic, frequently uses to refer to Hashem. That’s all it means.

Sam2 – I’ve always thought that pshat in the pasuk is pashut that the malachim stand with their feet together. (Otherwise, why don’t we amputate? Yeah, that’s a little drastic, but my point is what shaychis to anything that they have one leg? Mah she’ein kein if they b’davka keep their feet together I hear why we would try to emulate them, because they are obviously doing so for a purpose.)

Blabla probably meant what OneOfMany was muttering under her breath (if I got that right – that is, that if you take any multiple of nine and add the digits and keep adding until you get a single digit number, you’ll end up with nine).

    RABBAIM –

Your claim that they have breached contracts is ludicrous. Everyone has a recording of their wedding, and everyone has a contract. Why are all these people still paying and not demanding their money back, or at least part of it?

EvanAl will follow whatever the person paying says. I don’t know who asked them to lower the volume, but they will not listen to you, and they shouldn’t. You want it lower, other people want it louder. It doesn’t matter that your a sibling. No one can please everyone. At the end of the day, the most yashrusdig thing is to go by one person and one person only, the person paying. At the same time, I know the members of the band and they are very amenable and will do their utmost to please the ba’alei simchah and everyone else in attendance.

    ilovegreatmusic –

Your degrading comment about EvanAl is utter hogwash. They are an excellent band and no one who knows anything about anything would say otherwise. Considering this is your one and only post on the Coffee Room and the fact that this business is full of people who play very dirty, I think it’s obvious that you are a troll. It’s one thing to troll in support of your business. It’s another to do so to ruin someone else’s. Go jump in the lake.

OneOfMany – Hint: The reason CR posters see it on a regular basis is not because they post in the CR. It just happens to fall out that way. What else do posters here have in common? Hope I didn’t just give it all away…

Took me some time to find what you mean, but now I see what he says about autopsies. Is that what you were referring to? Wow.

I was once in an alleyway behind Ben Yehuda Street at about three in the morning when I saw some hippyish looking guy sitting there with a guitar singing some obscure words. I inclined my ear and tried to make out what he was saying, and then I realized I already knew the words. He was singing, “?? ??? ?? ????? ??? ??????? ?????”…

apushatayid – If the band is coming with a sound system, they can arrange it to be exactly at the level of volume you want. Of course, “you” refers to the person paying, not stam anyone.

They all have names, you just have to know them.

As for Esther’s question, it depends on the band. “Right Now” by Van Halen with the second half of it using horns is one of my favorites (the intro to Journeys IV is based on it; the original is better). But it only sounds good if the band has rehearsed it well. Evanal for example does a really good job at it, but I have heard others make shvacheh mayses out of it. So whatever you choose, it is very important to ask the band if they’ve played or rehearsed it before, and also ask for Youtube videos or recordings, and consider choosing from something they are already really good at.
