Best diet to follow is Weight Watchers….it allows you to eat almost everything (in moderation) and rewards you when yo excercise (more points). I follow it on line, so i dont go to the classes. It is very simple to follow as long as you are honest with yourself.
I work in a fast food place at night and sit at a desk all day and when I follow the plan I am able to lose weight. So anyone can do it. My secret tric is that I never dip into my weekly allowance or my exercise points until Shabbos. This alllows me to enjoy shabbos with alot less guilt. Since the summer of 2007 i have managed to keep off over 50 pounds (i had 75 but “fell off the wagon”).
For most of us battling the bulge it is/has been a life long battle (first diet was in 6th grade some 30+ years ago). So now every meal and snack is a decision whether to stay on the plan or “cheat”. This way even whwn I do cheat, at least I am in control.
Hatzlacha To All.
yiddeshekupMemberMy son went there for 2 and half years (after starting HS here in NY). I can say that from my experience the staff is extremely warm and caring. They take great pride in providing individual attention and knowing each students needs. My son did not go back after graduation (most do) but still went down for a couple of shabbosim.
The community is involved and very supportive of the Yeshiva and the students.
When my son was there the “dorms” were spread out in peoples homes but there is talk that they will build (oo have built a building for housing.
yiddeshekupMemberIf there was a problem eating food from a “goyish” company (aside: I hate that term…non Heimshe…a little better) than the OU, StarK, ChofK, etc. would not give hechsherim on them nor would they make theese big announcements as to what is becoming kosher (Gatorade, Tootsie Rolls, etc.).
Buy what you like and dont worry about it.
Also, I was at the Anderson Pretzel Factory and at the end of the tour they have the factory store. On one of the walls are all of the companies that the bake/pacjage for including Blloms, Paskez and Shoprite. It is all the same pretzel just processed at different times.
yiddeshekupMemberI have heard of making a Tanis Devarim on Yom Kippur….I think it would be very difficult to do.

They are all well adjusted in every sense of the word…kids have always played make believe and always will. Use some common sense.
yiddeshekupMemberMemories….camp Kol ree nah (in Livinston Manor), Ma-na-Vu in Parksville, Elm Shade in Fallsburg. Spent many summers (anout 35 in total) up there…miss it now.
yiddeshekupMemberEver try to park near Landaus Shul (especailly bain Hazmanim)? It is crazy… i have davened at a later minyan than I had planned several times because (1) I have to pass numerous double parked cars (2) I have been cut off by someone makin a spontaneous U Turn on ave L and (3) trying to go around cars parked in the crosswalk.
Not too mention cars parked at the hydrants, buchrim running into the street without looking etc. We all need to be more considerate of each other!
yiddeshekupMemberThere are certain things I WONT bring into my home on pesach, not as a chashash of Chometz, rather that it “wont seem like Pesach”if I have it (Pesach Mustard is but one example).
The choices of products are seemingly endless, and anything that brings you simchas yom tov should be bought and enjoyed.
(I too have a child who has an allergy, to corn, so certain products, like Ketchup, i stock up on since it is made with sugar for Pesach).
yiddeshekupMemberWhat we do is play board games Friday night, even in the summer. Yes it gets late….but the kids, and most of mine are teenagers, really enjoy it. And for the younger ones, we play on shabbos afternoon.
