#1: There is no bussing until September 9th, the Wednesday after Labor Day. Don’t like it? Complain to the Department of Education, Office of Pupil Transportation.
#2: Contrary to some, NOT EVERYONE is back from either the Catskills or other vacation places. Most people are back for LABOR DAY and contrary to what has been written, LABOR DAY always fluctuates based on the calendar. Don’t like it? Complain to your Congressman.
#3: Teachers work generally starting after LABOR DAY, even in yeshivas. That is because they too are human and will plan to be back for Labor day. It becomes impossible to run any school without the full complement of teachers.Don’t like it? See number 2.
#4: Parents need baby sitting services? Get real. Schools are not there to take care of your children. Yeshivas are there for education. This is not convenient for you this year? Grow up.
#5: For those who blame this on a ‘budget’ savings mechanism, either you have no idea of how schools operate or you just like to bash the yeshivas.
#6: To those who complain that their children won’t have enough time to prepare for the Yomim Noraim? If your children need to be prepared every year to that level, then you have a much deeper problem than when school starts.
#7: Lastly, to all those who are so mystified that the calendar worked out this way, take a look at next year’s calendar. Next year Labor Day is Monday, September 6, 2010. Many yeshivas will start on Tuesday, September 7, 2010. Erev Rosh Hashanah is Wednesday September 8, 2010. How ever will these children get ready? Summer will be over and after one day, yeshivas will be closed again for the Yomin Noraim. It must be a plot by the yeshivas to save money. People, grow up, find something real to worry and complain about.
