health- “As far as all these incompetent personell having jobs -I don’t believe they should hire anyone or e/o just because they have some piece of paper with some sort of license or degree on it.”

    THIS i agree with 1000000%.

however, i disagree on the butterfly usage. yes in a perfect world we would all know how to use all equipment properly and at the right time. but in the real world, not happening any time soon. i still think its better the tech can get it one shot and not get the pt annoyed she missed it on the first second or even third try w/ a needle & vacutainer.

    Hi health.

she ended up using a vein abt 1″ distal and medial to the AC. she ended up there cuz wanted to run fluids fast.

re the AC, i hear its used mostly in the ER cuz its quick and big but hosp policy by us is change it w/ in 24 hrs for a dif site. i dont like the AC cuz its iffy with positioning and flexion of the elbo

i haven’t had the opportunity to draw blood yet but all the draws i’ve seen are w/ butterflies. i don’t even know if they hosp has needles and vacutainers. but i’ve had draws done on me where first they tried needle/vacutainer then tried a second time with the butterfly and were successful.

at the end of the day, if they get it in one stick, does it really matter what they use? if the tech is more competent with one over the other, i say let them use what they want! make sense?

my mother can look at a ring on a kallah’s hand or other jewelry from that distance and can tell if its real or fake. if she is holding a necklace or bracelet she can tell by the weight of it if its real or not. my father too. doesnt take a microscope. (for diamond clarity/type you will need a jeweler’s loop)

a lay person will usually not be able to tell the difference.

BIG price difference between real and fake. i dont know specific differences though, sorry. i can afford fake on my budget. real, not so much :). the price of gold and silver have gone up tremendously in the last 5 years. the ring i got 5 years ago which cost X$ is alot more than X$ today.

if you are buying peals, a good set of costume peals will look as good or exactly like real pearls. semi precious stones are also a little better priced than diamonds and such.

if you need to buy someone a gift, buy what you can afford. don’t spend outside what you have (my 2 cents. are you looking to buy someone a gift?)

sometimes i can tell be the setting if its more likely fake or real. some times its just to shiny or sparkly to be a real stone

my father used to be in the jewelry business so both my parents can look at a piece and can tell if its real or fake.

as a recipient you will probably not know the difference. and the giver probably does not want you to know the difference.

sorry health. disagree again. even after the tourniquet, and dangling my arm and having my arm slapped, it still takes a good tech to get it in one shot. my veins don’t pop out and can only be found if the tech is good with feeling for veins ONLY. no visible veins even at the AC area. i needed an IV recently and the nurse-who works peds-also had a hard time finding a vein to use

the DY person was bad to begin with so add that to the above and you get a disaster.

and BTW i prefer if the tech uses the butterfly. their hand is steadier going in.

I had it done in HS also. And that was the first and last time I had I had such an experience. The person doing it pricked me tons till they found a vein. I was crying cuz it was painful. In the end they had the other person do it and he got in one shot. It’s just 3-4 vials I think and they are small.

Ps I have small veins but had quite a few blood draws both before and after dy that had no problems but dy was def the worst experience I had for a blood test. I would say 95% of ppl dont have a problem so based on that you will be fine

Also drink extra water before and if you can have some water/oj after so you don’t feel weak

    Hatzlocha. You’ll be fine

my mother got a bosch when she got married-the one that has the pillar in the middle. its the one with the plastic cover and can easily make 6 lbs of challah. its alittle difficult to take the dough out sometimes if its a stiffer dough but its usually not a problem. cleaning is easy if its soaked. for all other baked stuff we use a kitchen aid.

i got to use a magic mill while in seminary. i was not so into the arm attachment thing a majiggy. it was a strong machine though. personally though, i would want the basch for challah. or a kitchen aid. the regular one can make 7 cups of flour easily. it does struggle at 3 lbs or more

the parent may or may not have over reacted. but i do know the boys half of my former elementary school used to hire girls to go through textbooks and edit the pictures and content. we used to complain cuz they didnt do that for the girls.

one week my brother came home with a times for kids mini magazine. blacked out was a sentence that the world is x many years old.

my HS bio book had a whole chapter removed. i think its obvious which was removed.

when i read caine mutiny court trial for a book report, i read the unedited version. curse words and all. when my HS decided to use that book as a class book, they got enough copies for the entire grade and the secretary sat with a sharpie and edited every copy.

personally, i dont think there is a problem with calling a spouse “dear”. but i do think its the schools responsibility to check kashrus of books. IIRC there is mosdos press or something along that name in cleveland that makes kosher textbooks

i do know my HS left the word “damn” (a separate peace). the teacher substituted the word “darn” when she read it out loud.

the best prank we ever pulled was actually the teachers fault! it was a year of double adar and R”CH aleph was right after midterms and break so no one had their books in school the first day back (last day of shvat). the teacher wrote e/t on the board for the day and was fine but for HW told us to bring in our books and calculators for class the next day. a few periods later, we got a message from the teacher that b/c tom was R”CH, we don’t have to do our HW. (had this teacher for 3 years and her policy is no HW on R”CH) OK fine. we went home that night and didn’t do our HW but we all remembered to bring our books and calculators to school. but during lunch, someone pointed out the teacher said we don’t have to do our HW…. so we decided we would bring our stuff to class but put the books under other stuff, in the desk etc. when the teacher came in and told us to take out our books, we told her you told us we didn’t have to do our HW, and part of our HW was to bring in our books…. so she had to read the problems out loud to us again.

at the end of class, she told us she liked the shtick that we did b/c she wasn’t expecting it and it also mean or a/t. and then we took out our books from where they were and she started laughing.

attractive vs attracting- my humble opinion.

attractive meaning a young lady looks nice, pleasant, presentable, put together etc

attracting-when people on the street turn to get a better look. over the top, calling for attention.

i think its a fine line and not all girls can see it. i actually got a rude wake up call in a sense a few days ago. i was on the train and a man said to me after i stood up to transfer trains “you get off at x street, right?” so i said uuuhh ya i do….. and he said ya i get off there too…..

i don’t wear bright colored makeup or heavy makeup for a 3 day y”t but i do wear make up every day. i’m not going to stop wearing makeup but i think i am going to put it on a little lighter….

i’m not brave enough to go bare skinned and the few times i have, classmates want to know if i’m feeling OK because i am naturally very pale. i think it is accepted now for single girls of marriageable age-post HS and seminary to wear makeup. i’m not one to rock the boat and make waves by stopping or being one to set an example. in theory, it would be nice if we were judged as who we are and not what we wear but in this day and age…….

maybe you should ask single girls WHY she wears makeup. and i’ll even answer your question. if i did not wear makeup, i would not want to look in the mirror. i wear ‘full face’ makeup every day but it varies in heaviness based on the setting.

as hockster613 said, its usually to cover up a problem spot or bring emphasis to one area. ei, eyeliner to brighten eyes or make them look larger than they are. but i agree there is a fine line between looking respectable and presentable and overdone/circus clown. each situation a young women puts on make up, being for work, college, shabbos, wedding etc. requires a different type of application, be it heavier or more neutral. it kinda a sensitivity to know the amount of makeup needed, just like certain styles of dress are ‘tznius’ but those with a sensitivity to tznius won’t wear that style.

i am very sensitive to the smell of second hand smoke. the smell makes my whole chest tight and irritates me. its even worse when i’m downwind of a smoker.

i have a friend, who when she was single and her brothers were still at home, used to have a room off the house for smoking. she was/is close to her brothers so she would talk to them in that room. in the winter, she had to wear a coat. and every once in a while i would have to say to her, i think its time for you to dry clean your coat because it reeks/stinks/etc. the smell didnt bother her and it still doesnt. but she would dry clean it.

even now, when i have pts or visitors one of the first things i notice is the smell of cig smoke. i think b/c i hate it so much i recognize it that quickly.
