WIY, trivialized in that singing the brachos is a contest, singing maoz tzur is nonexistent, fighting over who gets to use the camera and video camera, who got better gifts etc. I’m more down to earth-I prefer tangible over theoretical. part of the problem is I am more serious than the rest of my family so even discussing this with my parents wont really change the situation. my father would not get what I mean so there is no reason to even tell him…

But on the bright side, I think I may light this year, even if I don’t have a good reason…

ya it get that. its not that i feel ‘weird’ in the usual sense. trust me, lighting is the least of things that makes me stand out…

last year I didn’t feel excited I guess which was odd. i mean, who doesn’t look forward to chanukah? well last year i was kinda in the mid of finals during chanukah so that may have been contributory…

I’m thinking about it. Maybe I will re-light again this year.

aurora, its truly is. G-d willing you should see it soon too!

WIY, i tried that. last year too. i think i have part of the reason; i posted it last year. it got trivialized a bit in my house…

OOM, whats that supposed to mean? 😀

Hi Aurora, thanks so much for your inspiring and beautiful post!

I’ve been thinking and I realized my 6 year old sister constantly compares her older siblings for differences and I may have to light so we don’t have to explain anything to her and she doesnt get confused… 🙂

so it turned out OK. the bottom was a little burned but the rest of it was very good. we left the flame on a drop too high overnight so we moved it off a bit in the morning so the cholent tasted normal.

I’m going to try it again next week b/c it liked this cholent more than the crock pot even if its more work

2scents, we tried it last week during the blackout and it I used the same recipe as usual but with more water. by lunch the barley was cooked but not the beans.

estherhamalka, we tried it last week but it kinda flopped so i’m trying again

Health, we put it up @ 10 so its bubbling now. and we add water as we need to. 1 marrow bone went in now and a piece of minute steak is going in later. but its cooking and smells good

but if its edible, there shouldnt be any leftovers 🙂

SHE IS NOT ASKING ABOUT A WEDDING GIFT! she is asking about a thank you gift to her preceptor, the person who guided her on the floor for a bit.

hudi,we used to give coffee and donuts + a card to the floor and instructor. never had a preceptor (yet, IY”H soon). Did she/he ever say “i’d really like X”?

hi oomis and nechomah, we went out again and it was nice. I had some niggling feelings about him but was thinking about agreeing to another date. in the end he ended it because our personalities didnt match. I’m relieved I wasn’t the one to end it that it didnt work out. but I’ve learned some things about myself from the experience and thats invaluable. BE”H the Aibeshter should send the right one at the right time.

mom22, either way, I found out so there is no point debating if it was correct or not. the thing is, I didn’t feel nervous or anxious on the first date. a bit more shy/quiet than I usually but then again, we had just met. My usual nervous habits are playing with my jewelry so I wore only the minimal so I wouldn’t do alot the fidgeting. the next date is in very dif setting than the first so I’m hoping I can be more of myself. thanks for your post

mom22, I think i was nervous the first time because we had just met. right now i’m distracting myself with school work but once i’m done with that (ya right) i’m going to try your ideas.

    OOM, (rolling my eyes)

actually came out to 8 cuz of title page, abstract and resources.

dropbox is online cloud storage. you make an account and get 2 GB free but by doing some stuff, you can increase storage. I currently have 3 GB. they also have paid plans. from the website, you can upload files and they are accessible anywhere with internet to download to any computer. they also have mobile apps where you can save some files on the phone or iPod touch for anytime reading. they also have a program download that makes a file called “dropbox” on your computer. any files you save in that file automatically upload to the dropbox website for access anywhere. and any other computer you put dropbox on (and log into same account) syncs automatically as well.

well hmph on you. the first time I signed into chrome via google it told me that if i sign into chrome on a dif computer it transfers e/t over so I was informed but of course I was like “ya when am i ever going to need this if my computer is gonna last for a few more years…” and of course when my computer was only 2 years old I had to get a new one ASAP as in “I have a 6 page APA format paper due in 2 days” ASAP.

so B”H my father is unbelieveable and took me to get a new one that day, got chrome and DropBox for the new one and wrote the whole paper done.

oh and dropbox is the best.

this is one of our family favorites

    1 small can button mushrooms

    tomatoes

    one small onion sliced

2 scallions, cut in small rings (optional)

    2 T oil

    2 T vinegar

    1 T sugar or splenda

Can also add 1 can hearts of palm (Hadar is good), and/or avocado cut in chunks. can add/subtract ingredients based on family preferences (we use lots more tomato than mushrooms)

tastes best if marinates 1/2-1 hour. does not taste good if marinated overnight. best when fresh

It was during davening and chumash class. we heard terrorists had crashed a plane full of people and thats all we heard. we had an assembly for tehillim IIRC because some of the students had parents in the WTC.

my uncle was on the one of the last trains into wtc and basically under the tower when the 2nd plane hit
