I recently heard a story about R’ Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld. It was the time of the Belfour Declaration and jews were rapidly immigrating to Israel causing many people to believe it was the time of Massiach. (Im not sure the exact details of what brought this up…maybe someone asked him why he became rav but regardless…) he explained: When he was in Pressurg yeshiva the roshei yeshiva used to get drunk on Purim so before Purim they appointed a “purim rav” to paskin shailos over purim. He said i”m like the purim rav- i”m only rav because everyone else is drunk.

Point: We should not be deciding this or that means massiach is coming, we just gotta keep doing our best and keep daving and iy”H…

Not knowing the source of something does not necessarily mean its made up. There are many things that people are brought up believing and practicing or things they’ve heard from teachers, Rabbeim, or other people they respect and trust, yet they do not know the source for but are confident in the persons knowledge of Torah and go by their judgement. Granted they should not be quoting something they do not know the source for and putting it down as fact, yet it should not be dismissed as “made up stuff”.

Otherwise you’d be hearing about lots of frum men and their many wives.

I believe per R’ Gershom the cherem would no longer be in effect but it has become accepted nonetheless and besides it illegal to have more then one wife.

“I think the counselors should verify that the parents are paying full-tuition for their kids’ yeshiva educations before accepting any tips.”

Any parent whose paying a couple thousand dollars to send their child to camp should be able to tip the counselor the twenty bucks they deserve.
