When an animagus transforms, what happens to his clothes?

(It is mashma that part of the transformation transforms the clothes into the animal; see by McGonagall she has the glasses around her eyes, as does Rita Skeeter.)

How does the transformation work without a wand? Barely any magic at all can take place without a wand. (The child wizard magic is similar (eg Lily making the flower shrivel and grow again). Voldemort can perform Legilimency without a wand, as can Snape and Dumbledore. Quirrel in Book 1 “snaps his fingers” to bind up Harry, without any mention of a wand.)

I would definitely be a phoenix – while in phoenix form, I would never die; I would have healing powers and I would be able to sing wonderfully. Besides for being able to fly with large weights. (Supposing it is possible to give oneself powers of another creature when turning into an animagus – although one could suggest that transfiguration by a human will only externally change the shape and size but not the actual ‘human’ creation. I am not sure)

BTW – why, once one is an animagus, can one not transform into more than one different creature? Sirius was always the same dog, Pettigrew was always the same rat – why does this necessarily need to be so? If one is just performing complex transfiguration, why can one not customize it each time?

And if Moody can turn Malfoy into a ferret, why can he not transform himself? (Although maybe Animagus, which is **somehow** performed without a wand (?) is harder.)

I was at a sheva brochos last night and somebody spoke about the connection between Marriage and Kabolas Hatorah (Rashi this week says “K’Chaloso” means “K’caloso”).

Both of them have ???? ?????. By Matan Torah, first Naseh, we do, then Nishma, we understand. By marriage, however, we do, but we’ll never understand. But even marriage – Na’aseh, we do – and then Nishma – we’ll never stop hearing about it!

Baal Habooze – I am talking through my hat here, but this weeks Parsha discusses parts of the daily avodah in the bais hamikdash – it could be that besides for the kiyor being part of the binyan habayis, part of the tzurah for the avodah was to have a kiyar there. (I have heard this sort of vort b’nogea the hadlokas hamenorah and the lechem haponim, in different variations.)

I am here because I have nothing better to do Bein Hasdorim, and I enjoy the banter (before it gets worse) and the occasional intellectual challenge. The humour, as well, is a great pull to the site (Although most of the good threads, unfortunately, start about 4 years ago!)

But the main reason we are all here is to serve Popa with untainted faith and pure devotion, and to drink his every word with a thirst created by nothing less than Lethal Beans and Pickles.

My Maggid Shiur told me that R’ Shach devoted his only Shiur Klalli on Na’ra Hamorasa (Nedarim) to this R’ Chaim — the whole shiur was arguing and saying that there is no such thing.

However, in ??? ???? we found a similar ???? – just with a totally different twist. (I think this is ??? ? ??????? but I’ll check it up)

    The ???? is ???? between a ???? ??? and a ???? ??????? – a ???? ??????? is ?? immediately, and a ???? ??? is only ?? later bshaas ???? ?????. Therefore the ???? says that if one is ???? a lady with a ???? ???, before the ???? ???? if somebody else is ???? her, she is ?????? ????.

However, the Rambam says that somebody who divorces his wife with a ???? ??? (which is only ?? later) – ??????? she should not get married before the ???? ?????, but if he does marry we say ?????? they can stay married.

The obvious question is – if the ???? is only ?? at the ???? ????, lechorah it should follow on that she is a full ??? ??? and ?????? ??? is not tofes?

R Shach (This is my understanding of what he said) answers that both types of ???? are ?? straight away. The difference is that a ???? ??????? means that you do a ????, and the ???? later will be a pure ???? ????? whether your ???? of Day 1 worked or not.

???? ???, however, works differently. When you make a ??????? on Day 1, but you are ???? the ???? on a ???? for Day 30, the ?? of ???? is that it pushes off the ???? and “moves” it to Day 30. If on Day 30 your ???? can still work (On day 30 your ???? has to be in a matzav that if you would do it now it would work), then your ???? can be ?? on day 1.

The way i look at it is: Every ???? needs a ???? to make the ????. When you do a ???? on Day 1, the ???? is now the ingredient of the ???? of Day 1. Even if ???? now takes your ???? and removes it to Day 30, if remains the “Day 1 ????”. So as long as there is nothing stopping it from being a ???? now, it can be ?? backwards.

(Sort of like if a guy from the 1800s uses a time machine to come to 2013, he stays the guy from the 1800s; he just happens to be here. If he would die now, before he has children in HIS time, his children would never be born.)

Therefore in the case of ???????, if somebody else is ???? her she is ?????? ????, NOT because the ???? is only ?? on Day 30, but simply because if she is an ??? ??? on Day 30, then the ???? of the FIRST ??????? is not a ???? anymore, because ??????? cannot be ???? on an ??? ???.

However, by the case of ??, since it works ????? once you get to the ???? ????, even beforehand she can (bdieved) marry the second guy, because the ?? is ?? from Day 1 and so she is divorced.

I saw the ?? ????? says that it is ?? ??? ?? ????, which means that you can get drunk up to but not including Ad Delo Yoda. This makes more sense to me – meaning that there is a ???? to drink and get drunk, but there is a gvul that one shouldn’t forget the point of Purim.

Purple – I think your teacher must have meant the ???? ????? (written by the Chafetz Chaim) who paskens like the Rm”a.

See also the ????? ???? and ???? ????? by ????? ????? who say clearly that one should not get drunk if it will hinder his ????? ?’.

I have also seen that the ?? which says ???? ????? ??????? brings immediately after a story about ??? and ? ???? who were having a ???? together, and ??? killed ? ???? accidentally. The ????? ????? (a ?????) explains that the ???? is saying that sometimes ??? ???? ?????? and it is not worth getting drunk.

So you could suggest that there actually is a ???? according to the ????? (and maybe ???), but he will explain the ???? differently in a way that there is no ????.

However, the ??? ????? learns like the ????? (as I will prove), yet still does not hold of the ????. He asks a ???? on the words ?? ????? ???? — If we are talking when she marries one ??? and one ?????, then why does it only talk about a ?? ????? – the same applies to a ?? ???, because once married to a ?????, she must stop eating ?????. (Here we see he doesn’t hold of ????, because if he would, his whole ???? is not shver – betzem a ?? ??? can eat ????? based on the ????, and it is takah only the ?? ????? who has no ????).

Yet the ??? ????? answers that we are talking when she married two ?????, and says a massive ????? that a ??? is only ????? his wife if she is ???? ???? ????, and in a matzav of ??? she cannot eat. — And if this is supposed to answer his question, a ?? ??? married to two ????? will be ???? to eat – so he must learn like the ????? that the she is eating of her own accord, because the husbands cannot be ????? her ????.

So he holds like the ????? and still does not hold of the ?????

?????? the only ????? will be that he holds of ??? ?????? ?”? that in a case where the ???? was a ???? (such as where you TRIED to do a ??????? but are ????? if the money landed ???? ?? or ???? ??) there is no ???? that she is unmarried. Efshar we can shtel that tzu to here that she is definitely married, the question is simply whether the marriage is to the ??? or the ?????.

we learnt today in skl that u shud get “high” and not “drunk”. u know the border urself. my halacha teacher sed the chofetz chaim holds that u can be yotzei if u drink a little (NOT drunk!!) then take a nap.. mayb look it up..

I think that this is the ???? of the ??”?, although I am not certain. But then you do not need to get drunk; you are fine by sleeping (maybe under the influence of wine).

OP: Why are you looking for heteirim? The halacha is to get drunk. Unless someone is physically ill or unable to get drunk, he should get drunk on Purim until reaching the state of ad dlo yoda.

Because I agree with what I have heard bshem the Gedolim, that if one will not be able to control himself from doing anything wrong one should not drunk. Because I believe it when Hillel said ?? ????? ????? ?? ??? ????. Because I believe my Purim will be more focused towards HKB”H if I am sober. Because I don’t trust that I will be able to control what I say to people if I am drunk.

    __________________________________________________________

We say in Maoz Tsur (sang on Chanuka after lighting candles) “Roiv bonov v’kinyonov al ha’eitz toleesa”, which literally means “Most of [Haman’s] children and possessions were hanged/hung on the tree”. Chazal tell us that 10 of Haman’s sons were hanged, but he had many more than 10.

The question is, why most of his children? Why not all of them? After all, they were all enemies of the Jews?

The gemara informs us that Haman was an unusually tall man. I forget exactly how tall it says, but that’s not important to my point. Zeresh, however, the gemara says was “k’zeres”, like the pinky finger. OK, let’s say the gemara is exaggerating a little. Maybe she was as big as a thumb. That still makes her rather small.

A different gemara talks about genetic inheritance. It says that if a father and mother are both tall, their children will grow tall. If a father and mother are both short, their children will be short. But if one is tall and the other is short, their children will be “beinonim” (literally, average). So the children of the giant Haman and the tiny Zeres (aka thumbelina) were doubtless “beinonim”.

Now we can answer the original question with a famous gemara. We all know that Rosh Hashana is the Yom Hadin. If one is a complete Tzaddik, he is immediately inscribed in the Book of Life for a good year. If one is a complete Rasha, he is immediately inscribed in the other book. But for BEINONIM, the gemara says, TELUYIM (veomdim) AD ESER! That is we could only hang 10 of Haman’s sons.

    BRILLIANT!

Does anybody know where is the ???? that Haman was exceptionally tall/ Zeresh was short?

One of my friends suggested that maybe if Yaxley was doing side-by-side apparition, they would be in the house even if they wouldn’t know where they were, but if Harry would appear there, they would see him.

(Voldemort could look through the window because the secret being hidden was where the Potters were hiding. Here, it is just the location of Headquarters that is being hidden, so they could get in, and simply wait for anybody to come.)

It doesn’t say so in the books – it says that everybody who DUMBLEDORE DIVULGED IT TO becomes a secret keeper, simply DILUTING the strength by the amount of people who know it now, who can all divulge it.

In The Deathly Hallows, Hermione accidentaly leads Yaxley into 12 Grimmauld Place. After this, the trio abandon the house, knowing that after Dumbledore’s death they were all secret keepers, and now Hermione had revealed it to Yaxley — “Even now, he could be bringing other Death Eaters in there by apparition.”

However, in Book 3 when Professor Flitwick explains the Fidelius Charm (secret keeper) he says it is “an immensly complex spell involving the magical concealment of a secret inside a single, living soul. The information is hidden inside the chosen person, or Secret-Keeper, and is henceforth imnpossible to find – unless, of course, teh secret-keeper chooses to divulge it. As long as the Secret-Keeper refused to speak, You-Know-Who could search the village where Lily and James were staying for years…”

    — Apparently, it is only if the secret-keeper divulges it that one can know; even somebody to whom the secret keeper revealed it to cannot divulge. How, then, would Yaxley be able to show the other Death Eaters if he himself was not a Secret Keeper?

Another contradiction – In book 5, when the Inquisitional Squad are introduced, Malfoy docks points from Ernie McMillan, who protests that prefects cannot dock house points.

However, in Book 2, when Percy catches Ron in Myrtles Bathroom, he docks a point from Gryffindor. How does that work out?

(two possible answers – prefects can only dock points from their own house, which has a shtickle svara; could also be that prefects cannot dock points from other prefects, but can from regular students)

I think I have found a contradiction in the books:

In book 6 we are told (twice) of the exceptions to Gamps Law of Elemental Transfiguration, one of them being Food. However in book 4, Mrs Weasley “slammed a large copper saucepan down on the kitchen table and began to wave her wand around inside it. A creamy sauce poured from the wand tip as she stirred”.

In Book 6, we see the “Aguamenti” Charm to create water. We also (4) see Olivander (when examining Harry’s wand) “made a fountain of wine shoot out of it”.

Dumbledore also manages to conjure “a dusty bottle and five glasses appear in midair. The bottle tipped and apoured a generous measure of honey-coloured liquid into each of the glasses… “Madam Rosmertas finest oak-matured mead”” (Although it could be he somehow summoned the mead from somewhere else, because he himself said it is Madam Rosmertas finest…)

In the Pensieve as well, in book 6, we see a younger Dumbledore having a meeting with “Mrs Cole”, and “her eyes fell upon a bottle of gin and two glasses that had certainly not been present a few seconds before”? (which sounds like Dumbledore conjured them)

BTGuy, if someone is a rashah, he is a rashah. “Only HaShem can…” – is a false shittah.

This may be an argument between R’ Moshe Feinstien zt”l and the Brisker Rov zt”l — R’ Moshe says one can use a tinok shenishba for a minyan (although apikorsim cannot be used), whereas the Brisker Rav says that “A nebecha apikores is still an apikores”.

Actually, I think both of them will agree that he is not a rashah if he is a tinok shenishba.

The word “knei” also means to acquire, to make a kinyan. When a man marries a woman he makes a kinyan, he is acquiring a wife. She is not being sold to him (though I bet a wife or two has felt that way in the past…). So one should regard a good friend as he does an important and crucial acquisition in life.
