June 14, 2013 2:05 pm at 2:05 pm in reply to: The Government Is Monitoring Your Phonecalls and Internet Searches #958870ChortkovParticipant
I wouldn’t want anybody I knew monitoring my calls or my internet use, but why should i care if some guy working in a government office is listening in?
ChortkovParticipantSo basically – anybody with one username is entitled to a SUC “Certificate”. You want this certificate because <FILL IN REASON HERE>.
Isn’t everybody on here supposed to have one username and anybody with two usernames is officially supposed to be blocked? (And although there are plenty of miscreants, it cannot be an advantage that deserves a certificate?)
And how do you know who has one username or not? And if you don’t know, it is even more pointless!
ChortkovParticipantWhere are these Rambams, R’ Hai Gaons and Rashashs you guys are talking about?
On a different vein, which Gilgul is going to come back by ????? ?????? The first, the last, or some sort of “we-don’t-understand-these-things-everything-together-mush-guf-neshomo-ruach”? (I think somebody told me once a ?????? about it but I can’t remember)
ChortkovParticipantEfsherfarkert – PUNKT Fakert. I know some great yekkishe cooks, and none of them speak seven languages (random?!).
Toi – Are you a yekke?
BTW- Both of you – these generelizations are ridiculous. There is no such thing as an “average yekke”.
ChortkovParticipantYekkes can get moody?!?
I didn’t say my mood has changed, I just explained that I was fed up and was trying to get the message accross. Apparently, the message wasn’t taken.
ChortkovParticipantSorry – I wasn’t trying to be mean. I am generally not sarcastic on CR, but last night this SUC business was really getting on my nerves…
ChortkovParticipantMods – Can we have a very small “Shopping613” Forum where the formentioned poster can post all information about all the different (pointless?) clubs s/he (probably she) wants to open, and the rest of us don’t need to see and read them?
ChortkovParticipantWow! (**Yawn**) Keep up the good work!
ChortkovParticipantI officially initiate the start of the CR’s Troll Committee.
Great. Does this mean you are going to sign every post with a long shpiel about the Troll Committee?
People will be joined in if i see them fit to join, whether they want to or not.
No problem. Just don’t feel the need to tell us all about who is and isn’t a member every ten seconds, and about who has joined and who wants to join and who doesn’t want to join and about how nobody cares about the newest Committee you’ve openned…
ChortkovParticipantI don’t think it is a problem to have people who post the whole time; the problems begin when they say the same things the whole time.
Again and again and again.
ChortkovParticipantAkuperma – what “christian themes” are there in Harry Potter?
June 7, 2013 3:15 pm at 3:15 pm in reply to: What problems can you think of in this sticky Halachic case? #957510ChortkovParticipantEssentially any Derabbanan is a Deoraysoh of Lo Sasur.
While that is technically true, it is not applied for practical reasons. If you actually applied that reasoning, then there would never be *anything* that is d’rabbanan. You could never apply the rule of “safek rabbannan l’hakel” since every d’rabbannan is also d’oreisa.
The Wolf
Actually, the Rishonim already ask about why we DON’T say that every Derabbanan is a Daoraysoh in respect to Sofek. I think it is a machlokes Ramban/Rambam if every Derbanan is in fact a Deorayso or not.
R’ Shimon Shkop (Sharey Yosher 1:3) and the Shev Shmaytseh (1:23) bring the various shittos down.
1) The Rabanan were never Goizer in a case of Sofek
2) Being oiver misafek is not included in “Lo Sosur” (For explanation of this, see the Nesivos who takes on that the Rebanan cannot “asser” something; you just have to listen to them. So if you are oiver beshoggeg, for example, you will not be oiver on Lo Sassur. See Kovetz Shiurim — Kuntras Divrei Sofrim.)
ChortkovParticipantFrom another total am haaretz on the taaruvous front (as yitaningut pointed out on another thread :-)) —
Why is there no ??? ????? ?????? (Is ?????? ?????? a difference? I seem to remember a ?? who says that you DONT say ?????…)
ChortkovParticipantI am not sure if this is what you meant, but the Ponovizher Rav says (NOT like I said before) that there must be a difference between a normal goy and a ger toshav, and he explains the difference that a GOY keeps the ??? ????? with Hilchos Goy and a Ger Toshav keeps them ?????? ???? ?????, as a “?????”, and therefore keeping ????? ??? of a YISROEL counts not being ???? ???.
(See also ???? ??? and ??? ???? on the daf)
June 4, 2013 10:45 pm at 10:45 pm in reply to: How often do you read the "Nightly D'Var Torah" thread? #957072ChortkovParticipantI read it whenever it gets updated. Not so often, unfortunately…
ChortkovParticipantHalevi – I know, that is what I was pointing out. However, the Shaagas Arye’s answer will only make sense if that is the case – he learns that is why the Torah needed to say ????? ??? ????? ?????, and if not we WOULD have said ?????!
ChortkovParticipantI think it comes out from the Shaagas Arye a chiddush that now that ???? is ???? one CAN be ???? on ?????? ???? without any ???? using the concept of ?????.
ChortkovParticipantGG – I saw that in a sefer from R Yitzchok Zilberstein – they went and asked him if it was mutar to do or not.
I think they didn’t know who the thief was, and therefore decided to find out for themselves – and this was during the Nine Days too!! (Don’t ask how he had a shower; I am sure he had a heter from the CR)
ChortkovParticipantThere is a famous prank about a guy who phones Asda, pretending to be a worried father waiting outside for his daughter who had gone into the shop two hours ago, asking to make a PA announcement. Her name is “Tes Koses-Sheeper”. The stupid lady announced that they have had a call for “Tescos is cheaper”. (I dunno if you Americans know what Asda and Tesco is, but they are two rival supermarket chains)
We were once doing trick-phone-calls, and my friend decided to try this one out. We totally muffed it up, because as soon as he started speaking, the guy on the other end gave a laugh and said “Nice one, we’re closed.”
Five thirty on Sunday afternoon…
May 31, 2013 12:34 am at 12:34 am in reply to: Thoughts on Someone Selling His Olam Habah on Ebay #971248ChortkovParticipantI had a look at ? ??? about a Yissachar-Zevulun partnership, and he goes through at length (??”? ?”? ??’ ?”?) all the various dinim, and whether it needs to be exactly half/half; whether it is ????, and a lits of different ?????.
He brings (a) a ????? about whether you can do it with somebody who is not ???? ???? ?????? (although he is talking about the Zevulun rather than the Yissachar), and (b) he brings that the partnership must be done BEFORE the learning; however if one has already learnt and tries to sell it, not only does it not work, but he loses what he already has.

ChortkovParticipant
Parshas Shelach Lecha
The ???? says: ????? ??? ????? ????? ?????? ??? ????? ???? ???? ???? – Why does the ???? feel it necessary to tell us that the Bnei Yisroel were in the ?????
The ???? ????? brings from the ???? ???? that the ???? in ??? ??? says the ???? and ?????? ???? are ???? ???. The ???? ???? asks: Based on the ???? of ????? (Like :????? ??, where it says that because one is allowed to cook for guests on ??? ???, one is allowed to cook extras even if there are no guests, and he will eat it ????), one should be allowed to be ????? ???? since it could be required for ?????
(??? in ????? asks why anything is ???? on ??? – say that ????? that it is ???? for a ???? ??? ?? ???? say that it is ???? always, and ??? answers that a ???? is not ????. However, the ?? ????? ?? says that ???? is called ????)
To answer this, the ???? says ????? ??? ????? ????? –> In the ????, the ??? ????? didn’t do ???? (See ????? ?? and ??? ??????? ??) because there was no ??? ??????. {Even though apparently ??? ??? did do ????, it could still be that it was not yet called ????}
(This could also be why the story of the ????? is brought after the ?????? – the reason there was no ??? ?????? was because of the ??? ???????; see :??? ??????? ??.)
ChortkovParticipantHalevi – I hear what you are saying; any goy who is not doing it leshem shamayim is chayav misah, however a ger toshav is mechuyav.
Beningnuman – I don’t understand how you are explaining the words ??????? ????? ?? ????
May 30, 2013 12:49 pm at 12:49 pm in reply to: Thoughts on Someone Selling His Olam Habah on Ebay #971240ChortkovParticipantIf you can’t sell your schar, then what is a “Yissochor-Zevulun” partnership? Isn’t that where one guy gets the bucks and the other guy learns, and they split cash & schar?
(And any random bloke can make a ????? ?????? partnership; I have seen the text of such an agreement written by R’ Isser Zalman Meltzer zt”l, who praised the idea very much.
ChortkovParticipantIf the guy doesn’t believe in Gehennom, the sale is probably not going to work. It could be an asmachta, and it could also be a mekach taos.
ChortkovParticipantIf the only basis is the fact that lots of usernames come from 1 ip address, are the mods sure that this is not some Internet Cafe in the middle of Boro Park?
actually that does not have anything to do with how we out Josephs. agav, he usually masks his IP for different accounts.
ChortkovParticipantHello – this SUC stuff is starting to annoy me. Are you the only person who talks about “SUC”, whatever that is? And do you ever stop?
May 28, 2013 10:56 pm at 10:56 pm in reply to: Thoughts on Someone Selling His Olam Habah on Ebay #971207ChortkovParticipantI know there are many stories about the Gedolim who “gave away” their portions in oilom habo for interesting things.
There was the story of the Gaon, who for some reason didn’t have an Esrog, and they went looking for one. The only person they could find would sell it for the sechar mitzvah of the Gaons shaking. The Gaon took the offer happily, and then smiled and said that it is his first time to be mekayem the mitzvah lishmah.
ChortkovParticipantbeninguman – I have heard before that a ger toshav MUST be mekabel 7 Noachide laws, and than CAN be mekabel any other mitzvos he likes.
You say that this is not 1 of the 7; this is something he is mekabel. Firstly, this is not the ?????? of ??? – he says ?????? ????? ?? ???? which does not sound like he was mekabel it on himself.
Secondly, ??? asks another ???? on ??? that there are only ??? ????? ??? ??, not 8. The Ponivizher Rov zt”l answers ??? that this is a ??? in ????? ???, which IS one of the 7, as ??? says ??? ????? ?? ???? ????? ????? ??????, and if that is the geder hachiyuv, it is impossible to say that it is part of his kabolo.
ChortkovParticipantMy chavrusa suggested a tirutz – It depends why the goy is keeping shabbos – If he is doing it midin avoda zoro then it is okay; only if he is doing it midin shabbos it is a problem (He wanted to be medayek a Rambam that the only problem is the ????? ??, and that is not a problem if he is metzuveh). Doichek ketzas.
ChortkovParticipantSam2 – I have heard a Binyan Tzion that a goy’s ????? is not ????? ????? but rather from physical labour, and therefore a goy who shlepps a sofa around his living room will not be ???? on ??? ????. However, a Yid who does physical labour but is not ???? on one of the 39 ?????? is not ???? ???.
So, I guess, according to that, a ??? MUST do physical labour of some sort, but MUST NOT be ???? ??? as we call it.
This is quite a big chiddush! If a goy asks you what he can do on shabbos, what would you say?
May 27, 2013 10:55 pm at 10:55 pm in reply to: Why is Jewish identity matrilineal and not patrilineal? #954692ChortkovParticipantIn Parshas Emor, by the ????, it says ???? ??? ?????, and ??? explains “???? ???????”. Now – the ???? says clearly that ?? ??? ???????, and ?? ??? ????. The fact that he was ????? would suggest that he was a goy, even though his MOTHER was Jewish and his FATHER wasn’t.
??? ??????? ?? learns that ????? ???? ??? ????? and that the child will not be Jewish. ??”? on :?? seems to hold that according to the shita of ???? ?????? ???? ??? ?? ?? ????? ????? ???, the child will not be Jewish. (See ??”? ??????? ?? about ????; seems to be a ????? {although one can be ???? between a ???? ?????? and an ???, because an ??? ??? ?? ????}; see ????? and ???”? there)
See also ??? ????? ??.
ChortkovParticipantI am a Golus Greener.
ChortkovParticipantI dunno what I would do; I’d have a big problem on my hands – would I have to keep Shabbos or not?
ChortkovParticipantTo whichever Mod edited my post before – I did not mean that; it would be a troll post to put that in English here for those with possibly more open minds. Chas VeShalom I was not insulting anything R’ Moshe Shmuel zt”l wrote, nor did I mean any disrespect whatsoever; in fact I think it is an amazing shtickel.
But for that to be posted here, in plain English, would have disastrous consequences.
ChortkovParticipantedited. Interesting, look at R’ Moshe Shmuel Shapiras ??????? ??????? on ?????? ?”?.

A drop of kavod please, see if you can spare it.
ChortkovParticipant1)
I thought Yekkim pronounce a lot of Ohs as Ows. (I am really not knowledgeable about this, it is only a thought in my memory bank).
What are “Yekkim”? Ewww!
2) Imagine a Yekke leining ?? ???? ?? ?? ???? ?????? – and then imagine a Harry saying it, and then a litvak (A real litvak; ei rather then oi!). Sounds good!!
3) In Yeshiva, loads of guys call the ???? ????? the “Ketzos” – but when you say the full name, they call it “Ketzois Hachoishen” – nobody ever called it “Ketzos Hachoshen!
ChortkovParticipantI haven’t seen a good Jewish novel for… wow, it’s been a long time…
ChortkovParticipantLetz – I was MAMASH about to write that – you took the words straight off my screen!!!
ChortkovParticipantWith regard to the case of the light in front of the house: while a sensor may be a switch, min hastam you have no idea which step will cause the light to go on/off. Therefore each step is a davar she-eino miskaven, which is mutar, because every davar she-eino miskaven that does not inevitably cause a melacha is mutar. This isn’t only my logic; I have heard this from many rabbanim.
I asked the Rav, and he said that if you don’t know exactly where the camera/sensor is, then it is ????? and therefore ???? ???????.
ChortkovParticipantHalevi – I like that summary. It would be wrong for them to accept me, but not wrong for me to use it.
Case (C): The Yeshiva does not accept people to the top shiur who have not already been in any Yeshiva for 3 years. Using connections, it may be possible for one to get in even without those 3 years. The Yeshiva has no lack of places, but they will not accept people too young. Is it morally correct to use the connections to push myself in? (They do not accept people younger because they cannot cope with the shiur. Even if somebody exceptional comes in, they make a “lo plug” rule that NOBODY can come in. With connections, {for somebody who has been advised that he can cope with the shiur}, one can get in. Right or wrong?
ChortkovParticipantROB – The Rav told me it is assur, quoting R’ Shlomo Zalman’s words “A sensor is a switch”. This isn’t my psak; MY Rav told me actually that it is muttar and i do walk past light sensors. THIS Rav told me his psak, quoting R’ Shlomo Zalmans words.
The Rav did try to bring in cameras (live recording) into this shaila, (although not l’maisa, he was talking based on the {debatable} principal that taking a photo will be ????, which he is ????? may not be ???? with digital), but that isn’t what he spoke to R Shlomo Zalman about.
(If anybody has the ??? handy, have a look at R’ Elyashivs Hagodo (brought out this year) under ????? ???? ????? where they quote some rather amusing stories about questions people asked R’ Elyashiv and got a very confusing psak based on the way they phrased the question.)
ChortkovParticipantWhat is “pig latin”?
Have you never heard a Yeshiva bochur asking for a “R’ Chaim all-h Rambam?”
ChortkovParticipant“Can you show me wehere R”Shlomo Zalman zz’l paskened the way yoy report?”
No I can’t.
I thought i made myself perfectly clear – this psak was m’pi hashmiyah. The Rov asked R’ Shlomo Zalman (I don’t know in what nussach or in what heicha timtza) and he said those words. “A sensor is a switch”.
ChortkovParticipantA Rav told me (about light sensors in the street) that he once asked R’ Shlomo Zalman Aurbach zt”l and he paskened that “A sensor is a switch”, and it is assur. I asked the Rav what he would do if he realised he is in front of a sensor – would he stay there the whole shabbos – and he said that he would be soimech on the makilim (e.g R’ Shmuel Vosner in Shevet HaLevi).
(My Rav also paskened, based on R’ S Z Aurbach, that if you have a light in front of your house that will go on automatically, you must stay at home the whole shabbos and daven beyechidus!)
ChortkovParticipantHas he ever done anything like stalking, or is he just annoying and has loads of screenames?
ChortkovParticipantI am not sure how this fits in with:
YWN Coffee Room Posting Rules
Loshon Hara and other inappropriate speech
2 – Loshon Hara will not be tolerated at all. We are not and will not become Lashon Hara central (keep this in mind when starting a thread).
Is Dov Lipman not part of ?????? This thread should be closed as it is totally against Halocho. Just because you don’t agree with somebodies outlook and hashkofos doesn’t mean you can have an
Open bashing session totally allowed here.
ChortkovParticipant147 – I have been to numerous yekkishe chasunas, and yes, the Chosson has no Kittel, they do sing Psalm 128 (I suppose it is 128 although i have no idea; Shir HaMalos ashrey kol yerey Hashem) – and I have seen different minhagim whether they do it before or after they smash the glass.
What is this about one Tallis over head of Groom & Bride? Never seen that before.
