I wouldn’t want anybody I knew monitoring my calls or my internet use, but why should i care if some guy working in a government office is listening in?

So basically – anybody with one username is entitled to a SUC “Certificate”. You want this certificate because <FILL IN REASON HERE>.

Isn’t everybody on here supposed to have one username and anybody with two usernames is officially supposed to be blocked? (And although there are plenty of miscreants, it cannot be an advantage that deserves a certificate?)

And how do you know who has one username or not? And if you don’t know, it is even more pointless!

Great. Does this mean you are going to sign every post with a long shpiel about the Troll Committee?

People will be joined in if i see them fit to join, whether they want to or not.

No problem. Just don’t feel the need to tell us all about who is and isn’t a member every ten seconds, and about who has joined and who wants to join and who doesn’t want to join and about how nobody cares about the newest Committee you’ve openned…

Essentially any Derabbanan is a Deoraysoh of Lo Sasur.

While that is technically true, it is not applied for practical reasons. If you actually applied that reasoning, then there would never be *anything* that is d’rabbanan. You could never apply the rule of “safek rabbannan l’hakel” since every d’rabbannan is also d’oreisa.

    The Wolf

Actually, the Rishonim already ask about why we DON’T say that every Derabbanan is a Daoraysoh in respect to Sofek. I think it is a machlokes Ramban/Rambam if every Derbanan is in fact a Deorayso or not.

R’ Shimon Shkop (Sharey Yosher 1:3) and the Shev Shmaytseh (1:23) bring the various shittos down.

    1) The Rabanan were never Goizer in a case of Sofek

    2) Being oiver misafek is not included in “Lo Sosur” (For explanation of this, see the Nesivos who takes on that the Rebanan cannot “asser” something; you just have to listen to them. So if you are oiver beshoggeg, for example, you will not be oiver on Lo Sassur. See Kovetz Shiurim — Kuntras Divrei Sofrim.)

There is a famous prank about a guy who phones Asda, pretending to be a worried father waiting outside for his daughter who had gone into the shop two hours ago, asking to make a PA announcement. Her name is “Tes Koses-Sheeper”. The stupid lady announced that they have had a call for “Tescos is cheaper”. (I dunno if you Americans know what Asda and Tesco is, but they are two rival supermarket chains)

We were once doing trick-phone-calls, and my friend decided to try this one out. We totally muffed it up, because as soon as he started speaking, the guy on the other end gave a laugh and said “Nice one, we’re closed.”

I had a look at ? ??? about a Yissachar-Zevulun partnership, and he goes through at length (??”? ?”? ??’ ?”?) all the various dinim, and whether it needs to be exactly half/half; whether it is ????, and a lits of different ?????.

He brings (a) a ????? about whether you can do it with somebody who is not ???? ???? ?????? (although he is talking about the Zevulun rather than the Yissachar), and (b) he brings that the partnership must be done BEFORE the learning; however if one has already learnt and tries to sell it, not only does it not work, but he loses what he already has.

I know there are many stories about the Gedolim who “gave away” their portions in oilom habo for interesting things.

There was the story of the Gaon, who for some reason didn’t have an Esrog, and they went looking for one. The only person they could find would sell it for the sechar mitzvah of the Gaons shaking. The Gaon took the offer happily, and then smiled and said that it is his first time to be mekayem the mitzvah lishmah.

Secondly, ??? asks another ???? on ??? that there are only ??? ????? ??? ??, not 8. The Ponivizher Rov zt”l answers ??? that this is a ??? in ????? ???, which IS one of the 7, as ??? says ??? ????? ?? ???? ????? ????? ??????, and if that is the geder hachiyuv, it is impossible to say that it is part of his kabolo.

With regard to the case of the light in front of the house: while a sensor may be a switch, min hastam you have no idea which step will cause the light to go on/off. Therefore each step is a davar she-eino miskaven, which is mutar, because every davar she-eino miskaven that does not inevitably cause a melacha is mutar. This isn’t only my logic; I have heard this from many rabbanim.

I asked the Rav, and he said that if you don’t know exactly where the camera/sensor is, then it is ????? and therefore ???? ???????.

Halevi – I like that summary. It would be wrong for them to accept me, but not wrong for me to use it.

Case (C): The Yeshiva does not accept people to the top shiur who have not already been in any Yeshiva for 3 years. Using connections, it may be possible for one to get in even without those 3 years. The Yeshiva has no lack of places, but they will not accept people too young. Is it morally correct to use the connections to push myself in? (They do not accept people younger because they cannot cope with the shiur. Even if somebody exceptional comes in, they make a “lo plug” rule that NOBODY can come in. With connections, {for somebody who has been advised that he can cope with the shiur}, one can get in. Right or wrong?

ROB – The Rav told me it is assur, quoting R’ Shlomo Zalman’s words “A sensor is a switch”. This isn’t my psak; MY Rav told me actually that it is muttar and i do walk past light sensors. THIS Rav told me his psak, quoting R’ Shlomo Zalmans words.

The Rav did try to bring in cameras (live recording) into this shaila, (although not l’maisa, he was talking based on the {debatable} principal that taking a photo will be ????, which he is ????? may not be ???? with digital), but that isn’t what he spoke to R Shlomo Zalman about.

(If anybody has the ??? handy, have a look at R’ Elyashivs Hagodo (brought out this year) under ????? ???? ????? where they quote some rather amusing stories about questions people asked R’ Elyashiv and got a very confusing psak based on the way they phrased the question.)

A Rav told me (about light sensors in the street) that he once asked R’ Shlomo Zalman Aurbach zt”l and he paskened that “A sensor is a switch”, and it is assur. I asked the Rav what he would do if he realised he is in front of a sensor – would he stay there the whole shabbos – and he said that he would be soimech on the makilim (e.g R’ Shmuel Vosner in Shevet HaLevi).

(My Rav also paskened, based on R’ S Z Aurbach, that if you have a light in front of your house that will go on automatically, you must stay at home the whole shabbos and daven beyechidus!)
