Harachaman Hu Yakim Lanu (No idea who sings it it’s a famous niggun) Shlomo Carlebach.
Vesamachta Bechagecha (also no idea who sings it but a famous niggun) Dunno who composed it, but Avraham Fried sings it as well.
Yaleh Veyavo is indeed a Miami hit.
There is also the whole of Halel to sing – and you can, like in shuls, put differet tunes to different parts of Hallel – it is a lot of fun, and you get to choose any style song you want, really.
September 16, 2013 6:56 pm at 6:56 pm in reply to: How did the Yidden spend Yom Kippur in the times of the 2nd Beis Hamikdash? #975105ChortkovParticipantJust interested – why did you ask about the SECOND beis hamikdash in particular?
ChortkovParticipantEven if one is ????it is an ????? on Shabbos to be ?????, if it is ????? (see above) the ?????? says that there is no such thing as being ???? ????? on a ?????. (See ???? ?????)
ChortkovParticipantIf you are doing it without noticing, then you could be (I’m not sure) ?????, which according to some Poskim is no problem at all on ???. (Similar to somebody who leans on the wall and turns off the lights; it isn’t a problem at all)
ChortkovParticipantMarraige is not five words, it is a sentence!
ChortkovParticipantBooo!
ChortkovParticipantApart from the Judges’ Ruach haKodesh, what is Nigzar in Olom haZeh, haShem attempts to be Mekayem in Olom haBo.
What a load of nonsense.
{Also,I don’t like the “Hashem attempts“}
ChortkovParticipantHello – that story about the basketball is true, and is printed in one of R’ Chaim Kanievsky teshuvos seforim

July 28, 2013 10:38 pm at 10:38 pm in reply to: Lo Yilbash (YWN Article about R' Chaim Kavievsky Shlit"a and wristwatches) #968720ChortkovParticipantJust for those who say “don’t believe everything you see on the news”, just this week I found out who the psak was too (the story was a little different) and I know the person personally and I can verify that R’ Chaim did say this.
????? ????? ????????
ChortkovParticipantAbba Mori bar Poppa had two first names.
Tos’ Kesuvos (97/8?) brings a “R’ Yackov Yisroel”.
Was “Tuval Kayin” two names?
I think that the Chazon Ish was against it.
ChortkovParticipantThe Vilna Shas definitely looks the best on the shelf. The Oz VeHadar have some meforshim at the back that the Vilna doesn’t have (although every Mesechta has different meforshim). The Vilna also has some very useful additions, such as “Likutei Avnei Miluim” or “Chidushei Ramban”.
(Actually, the Talman {Kiddushin} has included a remarkable likut of Achronim (such as Mishne Lemelech, Shaar Hamelech, R’ Akiva Eiger shu”t, Minchas Chinuch etc.), which is excellent, but the rest of the print is unclear, and they haven’t got the same range of meforshim.)
ChortkovParticipantReuven sat back, yawning. He was tired – exhausted, even – after the three months of hard labour. His work had paid off.
With an evil grin, he looked at the sleek black orb suspended an inch off the floor directly in front of him.
He pushed the hidden button with pride, watching as the entire top of the sphere opened and folded itself away, and he
clambered into his machine. Immediately, it was as though he was transported into a different world – a world far more
advanced than anybodies dreams. Even though the entire sphere was only a metre wide, he seemed to be in a large room.
The room was surrounded by ceiling-to-floor windows, each panel displaying a different magnificent scene. Out of one
window was the breathtaking sight of Mt. Everest, it’s snow peaked top reaching to the sky like the mountain in Uncle
Moishy’s Har Sinai song. Another pane of glass showed the so-holy, so-pure scene of the Kosel, with hundreds of Women
for the Wall congregating. Reuven smirked and looked on.
A third pane of glass was flashing scenes – Germany 1949, Hiroshima during the Great Explosion, and now something that
reminded Reuven of a lesson he had had about the Tower of Babel in cheder. The good old days.
Reuven stepped over to a futuristic chair, and swivelled around. Here, he was in control. His fingers raced over
a holographic virtual keyboard, and the fourth window clouded over from it’s scene of The Vatican to display some long meaningless
code which flashed over the screen in an incredibly display of colour.
A map appeared; the laser pointer highlighted his destination with a loud beep. Machines were now emerging from hidden
cupboards, sliding out from panels all around him. Wires and cables were snaking around the room now, plugging into the
sockets placed strategically around the Control Centre.
The was a loud noise and then the windows all around flashed with colour. Reuven placed the headset over his ears, creasing
his brow and typing frantically on his keyboard.
A red light flashed from somewhere, and a siren went off. Footsteps were rushing… But it was almost too late. Reuven was ready
to go.
The door crashed open, and Shmuel hurtled through the doorway, hollering at the top of his lungs. He lunged forward, his
long arms just catching onto a handle as the top of the orb closed itself, sealing the passenger inside. A mechanical voice
announced something meaningless, and then the orb began vibrating with an intensity that Reuven had never felt…
And then he was off. All around him, things were a blur. Shadows were moving around him; strangely sinister voices whispering urgently in the cacopony of sound. He was riding through a maze of colour and ccfusion. All colours of the spectrum were glowing around him… Red, Blue, Green… now colours he had never seen before. Revuen was only
aware of his hands tightly clutching the controller, and the throbbing all around…
A manaical laughter filled the orb. His Time Machine was on the go…
ChortkovParticipantFirstly, a friend of mine was “doing group” last year, and didn’t have a story, and he made one up (Right/wrong… not for now). One of the brats in his group butted in and told him “you said it wrong” in the middle. Hilarious.
There is a game called “Eidim Zomemim” (even though technically the name is wrong) where two guys go out and make up a story of some crime. Then they have to come in seperately and they get cross examined. If they are caught contradicting, then they lose the point.
(After two weeks playing this, they will come up with strategies, such as “Say “no” to any yes/no question” beforehand… gets more interesting weekly)
ChortkovParticipantI know this sounds hard, but it actually works (I’ve tried it myself). It will take time!
Jealousy means that you want something someone else has, or you envy somebody else’s life.
If you keep repeating to yourself your emunah peshuta – that everything you have in life comes from Hashem, and this is the package He wants you to have. If you don’t have something, you are obviously not supposed to have it. Concentrate when you think of ???? ?? ?? ????. Your life is exactly the way it is supposed to be. (Maybe your test in life is to withstand without this {depending on how trivial it is})
Secondly, you should know that however perfect somebody may look on the outside, EVERYBODY, at some stage in life, has a certain amount of problems. Some more than others. Knowing that everybody has their own “pekel” will make it easier for you to be yourself and not envy somebody else.
ChortkovParticipantMy favourite day of the year!
ChortkovParticipantNelson Mandela. 1st democratically elected President of South Africa.
He was jailed for 28 years and came out of prison… and the country has gone to the dogs ever since.
ChortkovParticipantTo all you guys above: Paranoid?
There is an actor called Rupert Grint who is a total wierdo (If any of you know Ron Weasley, he acts that character and is the living impression of him) – And he drives an ice-cream van BUT DOESN’T SELL ICE CREAM, because “its cool when you play the music and the kids come running and you zoom past them”. Cruelty.
ChortkovParticipantAccording to beninguman in another thread, it isnt a problem because of ????? ????.
ChortkovParticipantBeninguman – The Maternal-only ????? is similar to the Briker Rav’s ??? about ??????? – The Ramba”m writes that before ??? ???? there was no ??????? involved in marriage. Even those who KEEP the ???? would NOT be able to be ???? a lady, even using the ????, because there was no such ???? as ???????. Similarly, before ??? ????, the ‘relation’ship of the Fathers family was not considered relations ????? ????, even for somebody who keeps the ????.
ChortkovParticipantI’ve also got a bridge to sell you…
ChortkovParticipantClick on “Contact” tab on the top.
ChortkovParticipantBeninguman – It is interesting that one can use the principle of ????? ???? ???? ?????, because in a ??? ????? ???, inner thoughts DO count! I would have said ????? that a ???? ?????? is a ??? ????? ???.
But nevertheless, even if inner thoughts at the time can be ???? the ?????, if during the ???? the ger in sincere, and just afterwards is ???? ?????, there is no reason for that to be ???? the ?????. Does anyone have a ???? that it should?
The is, however, an interesting ???”? about a ?? who is ???? ?????, and a very contreversial ??? to explain it – the ???? is ????? ??? ? ???? ? writes:
?? ?? ??????? ??? ???? ???? ?? ??? ????? ????? ?’ ?????? ?? ???? ???? ????? ?????. ??? ?????? ??. ??? ???? ?????? ??? ??? ?? ????
A ?? who wants to be ???? from his conversion cannot, and must be a Jew for all purposes, or shall be killed.
The ??????? ask – Why should he be killed if he did not yet do an ?????? Why is he worse than a ????? ????? The Briker Rav (right at the end of his sefer, the last few words) says ???? ??? ??? ??? ??? ???? ??????. There is a very interesting ??? from ? ??? ????? ????? in ?????? ?? ?? and a ???? ??? which supports his ?????.
ChortkovParticipantThe famous ???”? which says that they only kept the ???? inside ??? ????? will not even answer the question, because they married their siblings while living in ??? ?????.
The ???”? explains that they kept the ???? even outside ??? ?????, and the way they married (I think he is talking about ???? marrying two sisters) was because of the principle ?? ??????? ???? ????? ??? – A ger who enters Judaism from any other religion loses any relations he had and is considered a newborn child. The ???? uses this to say that ???? can marry their siblings (at least ?????????).
The ???? only kept the ???? using the concept of ????, since they as ??? ?? were not ?????. Since their whole ???? was as ????, they only kept the ????? inasmuch as their ????, which therefore told them they were not related to their siblings.
I once heard a ??? that since ????? before ??? ???? was only maternal, the ????? would marry the relations that were only paternal, and they DIDN’T marry their own twins, but rather each others twins. (This is how ????? married ????; see ???? ????? ?? ????? in ???? ????)
What I wonder is: If each ??? was born with a twin, what happened with ???? and ????? Was ???? born with a twin girl (because she was originally intended to turn out male) and was ???? born was a twin boy?
ChortkovParticipantyou guyz are ADULTS! YOU NEED TO SHOW THE RIGHT WAY FOR TEENS!
Hey! I’m also a teen!
ChortkovParticipantSam2 – yekke2: People should be aware before listening to the 4th track of that CD that they use drums in it (or so I was told).
I have listened to it many times before, and I think (if I can remember correctly) that the beats there are performed with the mouth and not from any instrument at all. Although you are right, as discussed on other threads, that even such music is less accepted than plain vocal harmonies.
I’ll check it up, bl”n, but I am convinced there is no real music.
ChortkovParticipantShopping – I may have been a bit harsh, but I think you took my comment way further than I meant it. All I meant was to point out that the constant SUC posts were annoying, and even somebody who was there a week got annoyed. I did not mean the word “problem” to have any other connotations or meanings, nor did I mean to agree with “posting too much” business – there is no such thing as “too much” when it comes to the CR. Just repetitive posting can be avoided.
I’d love to see you back, and I am really sorry that I played a role in chasing you away. I never meant my words to go any further than you to realize that when somebody posts the same thing over and over again, it gets annoying.
Fast well!
ChortkovParticipantSorry, Shopping613, if you are reading this. I have nothing against you personally, nor do I have anything against most of your posts – in fact I quite enjoy some of the things you write.
I was just complaining about the SUC business, which went a bit OTT. But otherwise, it would be great to see you back!
ChortkovParticipantThe Chevra acapella is produced by Eli Gerstner and Yisroel Lamm together. Incredibly woven harmonies (Listen to “04- Simcha”; they go wild in the middle)
jbaldy – What is “kumzitz in the rain” and who produced it?
ChortkovParticipantAKA Pella is very goyish.
Maccabeats – quite goyish, but some very nice songs which are not goyish at all.
Berry Weber – Farbreng Vocal Edition quite chassidish.
Chazak Productions – (Shabbos Tish, Shehasholoim Sheloi) quite chassidish, but very enjoyable.
The Chevra – extremely professional, not chassidish but not at all goyish.
Kol Zimra – all different styles; give it a try.
Lev Tahor is great; great hits sung in acapella.
Yosef Moshe Kahane “Chassidishe Oitzros” is also very well produced, but Chassidish to the core.
Yochi Briskman made an acapella albulm called “Hamakala”, but I haven’t listened to it.
(See also Mona Rosenblum “Philharmona Vocal”; Meshorerim “Ymei Sefira”; Dudi Kalish; Beatachom)
I think YBC have an acapella albulm which is supposed to be brilliant. Miami have an albulm called “Around the Campfire” which is fairly good.
ChortkovParticipantWow. It’s that bad that even users a week old like SlichosGenendel have noticed.
+100000
ChortkovParticipantPinkdynamite – im into strange stuff lyk that 2
Careful what you say about these things. We wouldn’t ?”? want Shopping613 to get insulted in any way. She may take this personally!
ChortkovParticipantPinkdynamite – Do you know anything about Kaballah at all? I don’t, I’m sure you don’t, and Joanne Rowling definitely doesn’t.
a) Where is “Kabballah” in Harry Potter?
b) If there is any Kabballah in Harry Potter at all, it is in number six (Horcruxes, etc), which is the one you don’t like.
c) What don’t you like about number six? I think the plot (coupled with number 7; on it’s own it is not so great) is unbelievable!
ChortkovParticipantI think I would only marry a woman who would be open to my constructive criticism of her cooking/baking. I don’t want to eat bad food my whole life lol.
*coughDOUBLESTANDARDcoughcough*
What is the double standard – The “Why would you ask for something you can’t get” or the whole critical business?
ChortkovParticipantSorry, adults – I do hope our childish chatter does not disturb your important discussions.
???? ?????? ??????? ?? ???? ?? ?????
ChortkovParticipantIt seems to be a ?????? what the relationship was between Rochel and Leah – the Seder Oilam (I think) says they were paternally related but maternally not.
I know, however, that the ????”? brings a ???? that they were twins – because ??? in ??????? learns from ??? that one must not marry a younger sister before an older sister. The ????”? asks – why do we learn from ???s trick – we should learn that it is allowed from the fact that ???? was willing to do it!?
He answers that ???? agreed that one would not be allowed to marry a younger sister before the older sister. However, ???? was going ?????? that the younger twin is older than the older twin, because ??”? says in ???? ?????? that when you have a container, the first thing out is the last one in. Therefore, ???? married ??? because she was a younger twin.

June 20, 2013 12:47 pm at 12:47 pm in reply to: Lo Yilbash (YWN Article about R' Chaim Kavievsky Shlit"a and wristwatches) #968707ChortkovParticipantjewishfeminist – Apparently wearing a watch on Shabbos is carrying. However, if it is a nice watch (something you wear for the looks rather than for the fact that it tells the time), it is a ????? and therefore not worse than a bracelet, and muttar. AYLOR.
ChortkovParticipantI dont think there was any real plausible aveirah in the song
Loshon Horah? Yeah, I know…
ChortkovParticipant1) I saw R’ Chaim Kanievsky (??? ????) brings a ???? that says that ??? and ??? were not sisters from the mother, they were only paternally related. He says that therefore ???? could marry two sisters, because before ??? ???? there was no such thing as ???? ?? ???.
2) The ???”? in ???? ???? says that the ???? were not ????? to keep the ????, and if they wanted to keep it, they had to keep it as if they were ????, and ???? have a din of ?? ???????? ???? ????? ??? and therefore in-as-much as he was ?????, they were not related to each other.
3) The famous ???”? – they only kept the ???? in ??? ?????. (which is a bit shver in ???”? ????? ?????)
4) Before ??? ????, there was no such thing as ??????? (See ???”? ??? ? ????? ??’ ?), and therefore it wasn’t possible to become assur with ???? ???. (Even if they kept the ????, there was no ???????).
See ????”? ????? ?”? who proves from ???? that there was no ????? which come through marriage before ??? ???? except for ????? ???.
ChortkovParticipantApparently a restaurant opened in Gateshead selling only chicken and vegetables (al pi takanos of the town), and he called it “Off Your Rockers. {??? ?????}
ChortkovParticipantI spoke in school about graduation and it was something on these lines:
What is the point in a graduation party? Is there anything we can take out of it…?
A graduation is also called a ????? ?????. The ???? of ????? we see by Shmini Atzeres, where HKB”H says ??? ??? ???????.
Shmini Atzeres has no mitzvos. The reason why is because we run through Elul, the Yomim Noraim and Succos, reaching ??????? in ???? ? and ???? ?. In life, we run through higher and higher, but if one does not stop to think, stop to internalize everything, it all will fly out of the window. We need one day to stop and take everything we achieved through the last months and get us ready for the coming year.
(Blah blah…)
The same is true – we have raced our way through school/Yeshiva… we need one day to stop and take all the lessons that we have had over our lives and prepare for our future lives.
(something on these lines, and then I tied in Hakoras Hatov somehow, don’t remember how, and said a nice Moshol about Hakoras Hatov, ending off by thanking all the teachers and our parents for everything…)
June 17, 2013 12:45 pm at 12:45 pm in reply to: Davening in a minyan with a different Nusach #959938ChortkovParticipantI think I once heard (he might say it himeslf, I don’t remember) that R’ Moshe is talking about Ashkenaz/Sfard. However no Ashkenazi should use the “Sefardi” nusach. Don’t know why, though
ChortkovParticipantFor example the mountains surrounding ?? ???? that we know were arguing over which of them should be the one the ???? would be given on? (Perhaps we can suggest that once ??? ????? arrived there the others were flattened?).
Doesn’t the Medrash say that those mountains came from over the world, not locally from Sinai?
ChortkovParticipantAnybody here ever read Dan Brown’s “Angels & Demons”? There is an idea there (pure apikorsus) which reconciles the fact that there is a God and the Big Bang theory, making the two not a contradiction.
Something about that the theory is based on the fact that a blast of energy can create matter – the source of energy being God, and God used this scientific method to create the world.
Shame its not true.
ChortkovParticipantDerech HaMelech has it correct according to Rav Moshe Feinstein, ZT”L. But not necessarily “out loud”, just those things which need a Minyan should be said Sephard.
I saw R’ Moshe zt”l about a month ago, and I seem to remember that he says that all the things that require a Minyan should be said Sefard, but he also says that Psukei Dzimra (which does not require a minyan) should be said in the nussach of the shul, and only if one would get mixed up should one change to his own nusach, and in that case one should be careful not to say it loud.
ChortkovParticipantI have had these on my computer for some time (constantly, even on YWN) – I sent MORE than once emails to YWN to try get rid of them, but they were there today. My filter (Windows Family Safety) blocks most of them out most of the time, but every now and again (I don’t understand why) they come up – mainly adverts to dating sites.
How do you get adblock?
ChortkovParticipantIt doesn’t anywhere say in the ???? an issur mefurash for ????. (It will not be worse than a ???? ?? ????? which is a ?????? ???????, although I think ??”? midrabanan assur).
You may have ????? ???? ???, and the same issur that there is to be ???? ??????.
ChortkovParticipant???? ???? ????
ChortkovParticipant?? ???? ??? ? ??? ???? ????? ????
