MA: Do you have evidence of Parkinson’s or seizures from a reliable source?

I was reading an article about presidents who have covered up their medical conditions. It’s practically a tradition, dating back almost to the beginning of the republic.

Joseph, 43 states allow write-ins. Even if all 11 states he’s on are among the 43 (I’m to lazy to check), that’s still 32 more states. That’s hardly “a few.”

Why do people who park by fire hydrants (and stay in their cars) think it’s better not to pull all the way to the curb? It’s just as illegal and it impedes traffic flow.

Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are in that “basket of deplorables.” May we be zoche to see neither of them in the Oval Office.

Folks, it’s just pneumonia. My 99-year-old MIL is recovering nicely from it, and she’s much more frail than Hillary. She’d probably also make a better president.

iacisrmma, according to my source, Sher is about the only honest used car place around. And I don’t mean around Baltimore.

I’m told that with the electronic odometers (as opposed to the old mechanical ones), it’s very easy to turn them back, so you shouldn’t assume that any odometer reading is correct.

Health, I was going to bring up that RD article on crooked dentists. If I recall correctly, the writer got his teeth evaluated by an honest dentist who said he needed some minor work. He then went to dentists all over the country, finding that the vast majority recommended way more work than he needed. even to the extreme of extracting all his teeth.

My childhood dentist was drill-happy. I suspect he filled way more cavities than he needed to. He ended up a suicide. I’ve had two teeth break and require crowns because they were weakened by his fillings.

As for honest mechanics, I recommend Maven Motors on Jamaica Avenue in Richmond Hill, Queens (not a bad drive from Brooklyn if you take the Jackie Robinson).

Actually, given the quality of the major party candidates, we’d be best off if the winner died in office. Their running mates seem somewhat better than either of them.

There really aren’t a lot of 3 AM maariv minyanim even in Brooklyn. Maybe Shomrei Shabbos. I think Rabbi Landau’s shul’s last minyan is 1:30 or so. How many kollelim, mikvaos, etc. do you need? I can understand moving for education for your children (we did it 3 times), but I think number of amenities isn’t a good reason to uproot your family. Avraham didn’t move to Canaan because of the number of kosher pizza stores there.

Health, you made me work to find that. You said Trump is the lesser of two evils. So why vote for him? I believe you live in a state that’s solidly for Clinton, so your vote for Trump is meaningless. Why not vote for someone you actually respect?

One other thing… I find it amazing that any frum Jew can enthusiastically support either of the major party candidates. I can understand those who will hold their nose and vote for the candidate they consider the lesser of the two evils, especially for those who live in swing states. But they are both so antithetical to Torah values that I can’t see how any Torah Jew can be FOR either candidate (as opposed to against the other one). B”H I live in an uncontested state so I can vote against both of them.

Bava Kamma 52a (just before the mishna) talks about a shepherd who is upset with his flock and appoints a blind goat to lead them. Rashi says it’s a mashul to Hashem arranging for the Jewish people to have a bad leader in order to punish them. I think we can extend that to America in this election.

DaMoshe, to clarify what R’ Salomon said, it’s not that Kupat Ha’ir is one of those charities with high fundraising costs as one might expect given the ubiquity of their ads. He objects to their claims that if you give them enough money, your troubles will be solved. He thinks they’re exploiting vulnerable people. My source is a 2010 article in Cross-Currents by R’ Yitzchok Adlerstein.

If we’re talking about buying limited-availability coins from the U.S. Mint and selling them to a dealer at a profit, DY is correct. As I explained above, this is a way the dealer gets around the n-per-customer limit. There’s almost no risk, since even if the dealer doesn’t buy it, you can sell it yourself at a profit as ZD did.

My father was a pharmacist back in the days when all pharmacists were compounding pharmacists. He sold medicinal whiskey during Prohibition. I grew up with several U.S. Pharmacopeias from the ’20s and ’30s in the house. By the time I came around, he basically filled pill bottles.

Sparkly, if an engagement ring is a sign of marriage, what’s a wedding ring?

I forgot to mention that despite the diamond cartel’s slogan “Diamonds are forever,” they’re not. My mother’s diamond got shattered internally when something fell on it. After that, it was basically worthless.

Akuperma, as you probably know, the difficulty of appraising diamonds (or any stone) is the reason that halacha doesn’t allow them for kiddushin.

We were married in my wife’s home state with a New York rabbi as mesader kiddushin. He was authorized to perform marriages in NY, but not in the state in which we were married. He performed our civil marriage a few days later when we returned to NY. His wife and son were the “eidim” on the civil marriage form. On the rare occasions when I need to put down the date on which we were legally married, I have to dig out the marriage license.

All this (apparently bogus) talk about the health of the major party candidates got me thinking. Since the choices are so bad, it would be better for the candidate whose health is worse to win, so he/she wouldn’t complete his/her term.

As I’ve mentioned before, my wife and I agreed that a diamond was a waste of money, and, at the time, ethically questionable (this was in the days of Apartheid). She was willing to forego an engagement ring entirely. Some years later she asked for a CZ solitaire, which cost less than $200, IIRC.

Meno, they haven’t been genetically modifying tomatoes to look nicer, they’ve been breeding them to get traits that have nothing to do with taste. Mostly, commercial growers want tomatoes that look nice, ship well, and are slow to spoil. Tomatoes are advertised as “firm ripe slicing tomatoes.” I don’t want slicing tomatoes, I want eating tomatoes, so I grow my own. I just picked a whole lot for Shabbos.

To stay on topic, “tomato” is a rather old-fashioned slang term for an attractive girl, and my tomatoes don’t have hair (though the leaves and stems have hairs called trichomes, which I don’t dye).

The U.S. Mint has a per-customer limit on these coin deals, so a coin dealer used this ploy to get around it. These sell out very fast, so you’d have to have a quick trigger finger to get them in the first place.

Abba, your first post in this thread has at least one grammatical error. Many people have different writing styles depending on context. For example, any number of people text or email me using non-words such as “ur.” They’re all capable of writing standard English when the occasion requires it.
