YehudahTzviParticipant
Wanted to let everyone know that B”H it seems that I am infection free. I couldn’t go to my Inf. Disease Dr. last week due to my ride having to cancel. I am going on the 21st (I”H) and hope to get a good report.
For those davening and/or saying Tehillim for me, I want to thank you again. I have an ongoing congenital bone condition that causes fractures in my legs. I have fractured both femurs over a dozen times. Though I am (I”H) free of infection, a mention of my name for refuah or a kipitel Tehillim if you are saying it for others would always be greatly appreciated.
This Thursday I have my first foray into bringing in some parnassa after nearly two years without (due to the fractures, surgeries and infections). If you could put in a good word Upstairs for hatzlacha, I would be eternally grateful. I guess that name would be Yehudah Tzvi Ben Chanan HaCohain. In return, I will GLADLY daven for you if you are in need of refuah, parnassa, shidduch or ANYTHING. Please feel free to post and let me know. I will update (B”N) next week on both fronts… health and parnassa.
Thank you all again and may Hashem give you shefa brachos miElyona!
YehudahTzviParticipantSo am I following an unnecessary chumrah? Anyone else hear that there is a problem with sherry casks?
YehudahTzviParticipantOh, and Celtic Malts writes on their site: “Some casks are so deeply impregnated by their previous contents that the influence on the character of the whisky is not only observable to the general public, but intentionally creates part of the flavour profile of the whisky. Such for example, is Macallan. Particularly because Macallan deliberately uses only ex-sherry casks, all Macallan is deemed not kosher.”
Just sayin’.
YehudahTzviParticipantBaalHabooze: Baruch Hashem, my 15 year old Yeshiva bachur son makes sushi (as an occasional hobby) which rivals the best I have ever eaten.
I have been blessed. Tu tu tu.
YehudahTzviParticipant“Dayan Weiss, the Minchas yitzchock was famous for saying that all scotch is kosher. Sherry he said id not a problem because it does not add flavour it just takes away a bitter flavour. Additionally, the sherry barrels used in scotch are reused many times and the flavour is not apparent therefore it is botul beroiv. Dayan Westheim of igud harabonim (KIR) in manchester concurs with him as do many gedolim who have researched scoth properly.”
Englishveg: Rabbi Eidlitz of Kosher Quest out here in LA writes on his website regarding Scotch: “No Hashgacha required on any except when label states aged exclusively in sherry casks, sherry finish, port finish or dual cask finish.”
That is why Macallan is not recommended.
Rabosai, is this not the view of rov Poskim? Seriously, I need to know as I have been drooling to try Macallan. Help a sober brother out.
YehudahTzviParticipantDidn’t work.
UPDATE: Yes it did!
YehudahTzviParticipantOkay, Baal HaBooze has not yet responded. I am posting this pointless message to get it back to the top of the list.
Thank you for your patience.
(Cue musak)
YehudahTzviParticipantThanks so much for asking. Baruch Hashem, I think the infection is gone. I have been having EXTREME bone and joint pain however. I go to the Infectious Disease Dr. tomorrow. Hope I get a clean bill of health.
YehudahTzviParticipantCan I get an Emmy instead?
YehudahTzviParticipantBought a bottle of Lagavulin 16 Year Old when I was in England. YUMMERS (but long gone).
YehudahTzviParticipantRabbi Eidlitz of Kosher Quest (LA) doe not recommend it. Auchentoshan is part of the boycott.
For the record, these are the boycotted brands:
YehudahTzviParticipantRabbi Eidlitz of Kosher Quest (LA) doe not recommend it. Auchentoshan is part of the boycott.
YehudahTzviParticipantMacallan is aged exclusively in sherry casks.
YehudahTzviParticipantHelp me, OBI-WAN KENOBAAL HABOOZE. You’re my only hope.
YehudahTzviParticipantLA baby! Toasty 80 plus degrees. Tu tu tu.
YehudahTzviParticipantOr, if you prefer… Joo-dah Ze-wee
YehudahTzviParticipantYe-hu-dah – Tzvee (sorry, couldn’t resist).
YehudahTzviParticipantThey must be addressed in a meaningful way that they will understand. If they damage property or cause loss, they should be detained and arrested and take to Beis Din. If they cause injury, they should be dealt with physically. This, of course, is my own opinion. But in my eyes these are not Jews. They are Eruv Rav thugs who are nothing but a Chilul Hashem.
YehudahTzviParticipantMazal Tov! May they have brachos and hatzlacha throughout their lives.
YehudahTzviParticipantDespise my Android. Just switched to iPhone. Much faster.
YehudahTzviParticipantMuslim prostration during prayer. They also turn and say “Salam Aleikum, Aleikum Salam” after their prayers which I am assuming comes from Kiddush Lavana.
Catholic and Greek Orthodox use of incense by the priests in their holy spots.
Obviously the Eucharist of wine and wafer are taken from our wine and challah (or matzah).
October 25, 2011 11:07 pm at 11:07 pm in reply to: Should Jews Give Candy This Coming Monday Night? #1105055YehudahTzviParticipantIt’s actually a merger of two holidays. The Pagan Celtic holiday “Samhain” and the Catholic “All Souls Day.” Samhain was the harvest festival which ushered in the “dark half” of the year. See Mishna Avoda Zara regarding the holiday of Saturnalia which was not dissimilar. X-Mas is based on it. All Souls Day is the Catholic prayer holiday for all the souls who didn’t make it into “heaven” or are lingering in purgatory. Either way it’s about death and darkness.
There is no doubt that this “holiday” is rife with tumah and idol worship. It is antithetical to Judaism. My own minhag… NO candy to be mesamayach the Goyim or nonreligious Jews on that day. Then again I don’t give gifts on Hannukah either because I feel it is mimicking a minhag of Avodah Zara.
October 25, 2011 10:18 pm at 10:18 pm in reply to: Should Jews Give Candy This Coming Monday Night? #1105048YehudahTzviParticipantThe Goq: B”H, much better. Thank you for asking.
October 25, 2011 9:41 pm at 9:41 pm in reply to: Should Jews Give Candy This Coming Monday Night? #1105045YehudahTzviParticipantI actually had a debate with my frum dentist years ago. He held that Thanksgiving is Avodah Zara and Halloween is totally mutar and has no religious meaning.
Guess he wanted more business!
October 25, 2011 9:39 pm at 9:39 pm in reply to: Should Jews Give Candy This Coming Monday Night? #1105044YehudahTzviParticipantWe hang a sign on the door that says “Sorry, no more candy,” which is the emmes since I’m frum now. 🙂
YehudahTzviParticipant“refuah shelayma to u and your mother.”
No, B”H, this isn’t my mother. It’s my son’s best friend’s mother. Unfortunately I heard she is back in the hospital. Please daven for Taleah Bas Leah.
Have a Chag Samayach all!
YehudahTzviParticipantWent to the Orthopedist today. No visible healing of my bones. It has been over a year and a half since the initial break. But, thank G-d, I do not seem to have any more infection. Please G-d, let it be gone for good!
YehudahTzviParticipantShe herself is a nurse and used the term flat lined. She was clinically dead with no heartbeat.
Yes, she remembers seeing friends who had passed and came to welcome her, but her mother, who was also dead, told her that it wasn’t her time yet, so she was sent back.
YehudahTzviParticipantHello all. Moadim L’simcha. B”H I am feeling better. Doctor wanted me on IV antibiotics for another week until I showed him my hands. The skin on my palms has been peeling off. He immediately took me off the antibiotics. So far so good.
Just to add another degree of tzuris, I sprained my right elbow, so I can’t even use my walker to get around!
That being said, we had a family in our Sukkah over Yom Tov. The mother was in the hospital for over a month and in a coma for six days! She flat lined twice and had a “life after death” moment before being revived. B”H she is on the mend, but it certainly puts thing in perspective.
YehudahTzviParticipantYes, I wrap with a bracha. Yekkish minhag.
YehudahTzviParticipantAs I always say to my kids… “I’d rather have a pitomless bottom than the bottomless pit.” Yeah, I know it’s the top, but it does get a silly laugh.
YehudahTzviParticipantSmall update: Had an allergic reaction to the picc line covering but thank G-d it dd not get worse. Fasted whole day no problems whatsoever. Thanks again for all your good wishes and tefilos. They made the difference!
YehudahTzviParticipantMay she have a complete refuah!
YehudahTzviParticipantAmain! Thank you all and a gmar chasima tova!
YehudahTzviParticipantkapusta: Thank you very much for your kind words. May you too have Brius, Brachos and Hatzlacha with everything!
YehudahTzviParticipantUpdate: Due to my severe headaches my Infectious Disease Dr. has taken me off the Vancomyicin. Please, G-d, let the infection be gone and not come back!
My Dr. said it’s fine to fast if I “carb up” before the fast.
YehudahTzviParticipantMinyan Gal: While I am sure to be in major discomfort, it looks like I will indeed need to fast. I was told to try and dry swallow my medications. Maybe I can send a sandwich through my IV. 🙂
YehudahTzviParticipantWondering… Thank you very much!
October 5, 2011 12:54 am at 12:54 am in reply to: Oseh HaShalom vs. Hamvorach es amo Yisroel BaShalom #814308YehudahTzviParticipantRodelheim has Oseh HaShalom which is what I used to say. I switched because every Ashkenaz shul I’ve davened in doesn’t change from the regular ending.
October 4, 2011 11:52 pm at 11:52 pm in reply to: Oseh HaShalom vs. Hamvorach es amo Yisroel BaShalom #814306YehudahTzviParticipantSo what is the basic minhag Ashkenaz?
YehudahTzviParticipantam yisrael chai: The one about Oseh HaShalom? It’s still there.
October 4, 2011 8:30 pm at 8:30 pm in reply to: Oseh HaShalom vs. Hamvorach es amo Yisroel BaShalom #814305YehudahTzviParticipantLOL just trying to do it right!
YehudahTzviParticipantam yisrael chai: Thank you for your kind words. Trust me, I am no trooper. I’m just trying to stay positive.
I have been putting on tefillin over the Picc line (gently) as my Rav said that I could do it with a bracha even though the Picc is a chatzitza.
I need to ask about the fast.
YehudahTzviParticipantkapusta: Machul Machul Machul. Please forgive me if I had offended you in any way.
Update: My stomach is in knots due to the antibiotics. I am taking probiotics and Omeprazole but they are not helping. I don’t know how I am going to get through the fast.
Pain level in my leg is rising, probably due to the rain we have here plus I had my first real “outside” day yesterday, so that probably aggravated it. Other than that, same old same old.
Baruch Hashem that I live in an era when we have antibiotics! I’ll take the discomfort over the infection.
YehudahTzviParticipantCA passed a law that the MOST one can sue for in malpractice cases is 250,000. Most lawyers in CA don’t even bother because it’s not worth their time and expense. I have been turned down four times by four separate lawyers.
YehudahTzviParticipantAries2756: We did over a year ago. I have Gasos Tefilin that were checked (even though I was told they didn’t need to be) and were fine. Perhaps we need to have the mezzuzos checked again.
YehudahTzviParticipant“Yehudah – You obviously have a chronic illness and I’m not going to ask you what it is. If you want to tell us fine, but what I want to know is how did you get a bedsore which progressed to sepsis?”
Long story short. I lived and worked in NY for a year. My job required extensive travel and running around. I was injured on the job but was told by two doctors that i was nothing. I finally went BACK to my Orthopedist who said I had to be admitted to the hospital IMMEDIATELY (I had a cracked femoral head, the bone that connects the leg to the hip). I had been walking around like that in excruciating pain for months. 6 hour surgery. Long recovery. Went back for a check up. surgery had failed. Moved back to LA. head or Ortho Trauma at major hospital did 8 hour surgery. Hospital mistakenly put me on the cardiac floor, not the orthopedic floor so I wasn’t moved for 48+ hours after surgery. That is how I developed a bedsore, and then sepsis. I had to have an entire debridement of my backside. Then three months later, the hardware in my led failed and I had to have another surgery to repair it. Then i got ANOTHER infection in the hospital and had to have a minor debridement of my incision site. Then, this infection…
Needless to say, this has been the worst two years of my life. Also within these two years my father (A”H) was niftar and my wife suffered a miscarriage.
But B”H this is a new year and I have high hopes that HaMelech will have rachmanus on me and my family and that all my past pain and suffering should be a kapara for not only me but all of Klal Yisroel.
My pain levels have been down and I was able to get to shul for shofar and davening. Hopefully this is a turning point and things will improve.
Without sounding preachy, PLEASE, even if you are going through tzaros, if you are healthy THANK HASHEM! If you can walk THANK HASHEM! If you are free of debilitating physical pain THANK HASHEM!
I am not on the level yet where I can thank Hashem for my pain and suffering but I know that everything He does is good and for the good.
YehudahTzviParticipantGood Yom Tov and Ksiva V’chasima Tova to everyone here! Thank you all for everything!
YehudahTzviParticipantFriends,
Just back from the Infectious Disease Dr.’s.
Ugh, another two weeks on all the IV antibiotics! Guess I’ll be spending Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur with an IV attached to me. But it certainly beats the alternative of going back to the hospital in excruciating pain!
I found out that my white blood cel1 count was 27,000 when I was in the hospital (normal is 4000-9000)! As of now, my pain is mostly controlled (with Percocet). I just have to contend with the PICC line, the IV infusions, the metallic taste 24/7 in my mouth and the massive fatigue. All in all, not a bad deal, considering.
I do not think, I know, that your kindness in recitinf tehillim and davening for me is helping tremendously. Thanks you all, again!
YehudahTzviParticipantI am off to the infectious disease Dr. for a check up (first once since coming home from the hospital). I will update when I return. Thanks again, everyone. I am starting to feel human again.
