PBA: 1) what makes you say it was a BT Yeshiva?

    2) don’t worry, we drank beer with anything, everything, and plain. Cholent is just its best counterpart.

    3) Cholent is a classic Thursday night food, as is coffee a classic Thursday night drink. And coffee with a cigarette is a match made in heaven.

    4) why can’t you drink beer during the nine days?

    6) don’t worry, the Yeshiva didn’t make the cholent, we did.

in reply to: Frum Politicians- do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages? #1055566

You’re right, I didn’t mean a politician who professes to listen to daas Torah, i mean an ehrliche yid who actually does. Anyone who’s every move is based on the gedolim will not go wrong. Of course, there are plenty who claim to be supported by gedolim, but have no plans of actually listening to them. I was talking about someone who’s sincere only wish use to represent daas Torah in the government. I would give examples, but any example would get people upset and detract from the point. In the recent elections, someone came over to a Rosh Yeshiva and told him that a certain politician was waiting outside for a brochah. The Rosh Yeshiva asked “With a camera?” That kind of politician I’m not talking about, and just because someone claims to be endorsed, and even has a picture, doesn’t mean he is.

A man who drinks a cup of zektz un neintzig (96% alcohol spirits, for the uninitiated) every day comes to the doctor at the age of seventy. The doctor tells him he has water in his lungs. He says “Ach, I knew that four percent would kill me!”.

A man walls out of the bar drunk, which a bottle of shnapps in his pocket. He trips and falls. He reaches to his leg and feels that his pocket is wet. He says, “I hope that’s blood”.

    Any other kiddush club classics?

in reply to: Chronicle Moderations #1215468

I got moderated when i tried to post about shabbos preparations. My shabbos preparations, like the post about them, were not moderate at all. But I’m not upset because i was zoche to a subtitle. I’m not even sure why i wanted one but I’m pumped that i got one.

in reply to: Are Borsalino hats more stylish than other fedoras? #1056895

I like brandolinos better. I never did well with borsalinos, they were to soft and got misshapen too easily for me. It could be i mistreated them, but i did better with brandolino (ferster). I also like the way they look, but that’s a matter of opinion. My opinion must be unpopular, because many stores carry borsalinos and ad far as i know only ferster carries brandolino.

We’re upset about the extreme measures and money wasted due to the arrogant opinion of the mayor that he can’t be wrong. The city its never shut in advance of a blizzard, people are trusted to use their own judgment on whether to go out or not, based on the severity of the weather. But apparently the mayor thinks he knows what’s best for you and that he can do what meteorologists always admitted they couldn’t; accurately predict the storms path and impact and issue a curfew due to that. Even the storm turned its back on deBlasio.

in reply to: Women who don't recognize their inferiority #1055519

Seriously though, why would anyone say women are inferior? I think this post was started just to rile people up, and looks sort of successful.

in reply to: Women who don't recognize their inferiority #1055518

    I must reiterate one if the best lines I’ve ever heard (i think from papa Bart abba, if I’m wrong please correct me,.haomer davar bshem omro meivee geulah leolam);

If woman make a brachah she’asani keritzono, men should make a brachah shelo asani keritzono. Lol! 😀

in reply to: The Freezer #1055541

By pushing eligible bochurim off for six months, it widens the age gap, thereby resulting in fewer girls married. I don’t know how accepted the age gap theory is, but I think this is related.

in reply to: Homemade Hummus Help #1056157

Barlev: what is defined as hummus?

Yehudayona: I’m with you on that one. I’ll do the math:

1 five lb bag flour =$2.89

    3/4 cup sugar =15 cents?

Two tablespoons yeast = 25 cents?

    1 cup oil =65 cents

    6 eggs =85 cents

    Toppings =10 cents

    Aluminum foil = 20 cents

    Gas for oven =$1?

    Yield=6 challos for $6

In the store six challos will cost you twenty dollars.

in reply to: Frum Politicians- do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages? #1055562

When it comes to frum politicians, it boils down to one question: does he listen to da’as Torah. If he does, he won’t get caught involved in a scandal, and if he doesn’t, what’s the advantage of a frum politician?

in reply to: Israeli politics positives #1055479

I want sure. I thought maybe you were referring to the fact that politicians like doing things in the name of gedolim. Unfortunately, I am aware that makes between gedolim in political matters have ripped families and communities apart. It isn’t even what the gedolim are saying, they are acting lshem shamayim, which doesn’t result in fighting (eilu v’eilu divrei elokim chaim) but the rabblerousers who go around stirring up controversy in their names. Hashem Yerachem.

in reply to: You know you're not a yeshiva guy anymore when… #1197578

I don’t know. When i was in yeshiva, i did daf yomi (gasp), smoked because i enjoyed it, tried to quit multiple times, AND stirred my coffee with a spoon. (We won’t talk about waking up before eight). In my opinion, you can take a guy out of yeshiva, but you can NEVER take yeshiva out of a guy.

in reply to: Mishloach Manos Ideas For Teachers #1062096

Sorry about that. My mishloach manos usually consists of a hamantash and pickle, taken off the table by the seudah, and passed around the table by everyone who didn’t give yet and was in the proper state of mind to be passing things (not that i was ;-). I didn’t have time to write a poem for it, so I never got a feel for a good and original mishloach manos. (Actually, the pickles were original. Flaums Original!)

in reply to: Mishloach Manos Ideas For Teachers #1062095

A check. Your theme can be zeros. The quote can be,

“You’ve given me love, patience and time,

So I’m giving you gelt, with a poem that does rhyme.”

Btw thanks DQB, that was very comprehensive and helpful. Great!

in reply to: Permissible Motzei Shabbos Activities #1057024

Who’s for motzai shabbos cholent? I actually think cholent expires at 2pm on shabbos afternoon and is inedible until the next Thursday night (i never got how people eat cholent leftovers for super Sunday night) but cholent is definitely heimesh, and no offense PBA, but i think beer goes better with cholent than pizza! But that’s just my opinion. In yeshiva wet used to make pareve cholent Thursday night so we could have it with coffee and a cigarette. I guess that’s one of the ways to know you’re not in yeshiva anymore… (Sorry, unrelated post).

I definitely like parliamentary better. But the fights are insane! Whatever. Two Jews, three opinions.

in reply to: Homemade Hummus Help #1056150

Hummus and challah actually are better and cheaper homemade IMO. Soak the chickpeas overnight with two tablespoons of baking soda and water three inches over the to of the dry chickpeas. In the morning change the water, add salt and pepper to the water, and cook about an hour until soft. Grind with lemon juice, tahini, olive oil, garlic powder, water, some cumin (i like it), parsley flakes, and whatever other spices, until its a bit of a watery consistency. (It will thicken). Adjust the spices as you see fit. If you must buy, (in a way i like commercial better also) sabra is the way to go! Good luck.

in reply to: Is it ok to publicly bash President Obama? #1055700

You can be fat and do your job at the same time, which can’t be said about golf. The only issues worth talking about IMO are those that impact job performance. And obamacare has DESTROYED my healthcare. Btw David duke thinks Obama use a rabid Jew lover, with many conspiracy theories. He also thinks that the Jews were behind the tsunami in Indonesia and that hurricane sandy was an elaborate insurance fraud plot by the Jews. Just ask bibi how much Obama loves Israel (not that bibi is trustworthy).

in reply to: Telegram vs whatsapp #1065166

Goyish goyish goyish. Facebook is an unspeakable topic on YWN, it is anathema to everything it stands for. Fire and water don’t mix. I guess i get to many sms tweets to be properly against twitter. Whatsapp and telegram are just glorified messaging apps, not social media. If you’re against texting ashrecha, but don’t compare it to Facebook.

in reply to: Is this allowed according to halachah #1055609

I don’t think so. Look at the last amud of megillah what it says about someone who does (if i remember correctly that’s what it’s talking about). Never depend on the CR for a psak, but we’re good for the hock.

PBA: are there Jews in Anchorage? I know you don’t live there, your posts are too yeshivish for you to have ended up there. Swype is driving me crazy, i think I’m gonna throw out this goyish device.

in reply to: wrong again!! #1055784

I’m annoyed that i can’t drive, I missed a chasunah tonight because of this non storm. 4-8 inches, they say now. No reason to shut the streets for. Historic proportions, my foot. There’s nothing historic of making a fool of yourself wasting an entire say and millions of dollars on a storm that never happened. I’m sorry I’m ranting, I’m very Yossi about this chasunah now.

in reply to: Is this normal for yeshiva bochurim #1055061

The words divorce “him”are foreign to Jewish vernacular. The man divorces the woman, not vice versa. I guess a man should expect his wife to be addicted to her smartphone, but if he should glance at a movie, instant divorce is apropos. And don’t even think about visitation rights, let alone custody. I have little hope for the future of Jewish womankind.

in reply to: List the houses who don't shovel here! #1055421

Ooohh!! Lashon hara! Everything can be utilized to keep moshiach away, including snow. How about shoveling for them and bringing him closer?

in reply to: Hats and jackets #1055594

Look at what the shulchan aruch says about a beged meyuchad letfilah, then we’ll decide who’s yeshivish. Btw, how do you define yeshivish?

in reply to: Telegram vs whatsapp #1065163

B’h we’re less up to date on the latest apps than kj chosid. It would be my honor to recurve a slap for that. #kjchosid, ever hear of something called “Humor”? Ours the latest thing, it just came out. I like it better than whatsapp or telegram. Obviously everyone you want to assault thinks so also.

in reply to: [closed] Controversial Topics #1054706

There’s no better way to get someone to look at your topic than to put “closed” in the heading. Kind of like the guy who put a sign on a fridge in front of his house that said “free, please take it.” After it still being there after a week, he changed the sign to “$50”. It was gone within the hour. People love thinking that they are gonna get three latest scoop that was SO bad it was zoche to be closed down, and then they open it and find this. 🙁 Just leading, I’m really happy that it’s not lashon hara.

Cozimjewish- there is a famous reb yonasan eibshitz that the migdal bavel was actually a rocket designed to reach the upper celestials. Idk if they whatsapped pictures of the moon from their iPhone 7’s there, if the technology was really more advanced.

in reply to: Telegram vs whatsapp #1065138

I never tried a telegraph to dislike it, so I’m voting telegraph! There is an old maaseh that the Americans said they dug down 100 feet and found wires from 200 years ago, so 200 years ago they were so technologically advanced that they had telephones. The Israelis said they dug down a thousand feet and found no wires, so two thousands years ago they were so advanced they already had cellphones. On that note I formally cast my vote for the telegraph.

in reply to: Thoughts on Someone Selling His Olam Habah on Ebay #971251

    a) There are very few real atheists these days. Don’t believe what he claims.

b)It is assur to sell the value of a mitzvah once it is done. In a tissachar-zevulan you are not giving away schar you already have, so there is no bizuy.

c)this guys olam haba increased in value from $6,000 to $99,000 in a few hours. (Famous chassidishe maaseh similar to that.) Sounds like a good deal to me. All jokes aside, poor guy. We should daven for him instead of posting on YWN.

in reply to: Work vs. Kollel #1176721

Contrary to popular opinion, one does not have to enjoy his learning. A famous rosh yeshiva, when speaking to a bochur who did not enjoy learning, said he hadn’t enjoyed learning since the holocaust. That didn’t make him run off to work, and should not make us. Someone who battels will not start learning more when he gets a job. See what the Mishnah in avos says about one who comes to the bais medrash and doesn’t learn, and the shulchan aruch (orech chaim siman 150?) about just sitting in a beis medrash. That is besides for being protected from corrosive outside values. Speak to a posek instead of making up your own opinion. Yiddishkeit is not a democracy, and Hashem and His shluchim don’t need your performance reviews. BTW, the Mishnah about “haomer mah naeh ilan zeh” is explained that since travel is a makom sakanah and he stops learning, he loses his meginah. Someone who didn’t start learning never had that protection. The Mishnah is saying that even though one can gain spiritually from the world, NOTHING COMPARES TO LEARNING TORAH.

Beer is for geshmaksters. It sounds fest but does nothing. Take my word, the beer is a lot better drunk ice cold with the chulent (make that 2 or 3 or 6 ;).

If you soak the beans in hot water and some baking soda for an hour it relieves some of the side effects.

Sautae only half the onions, it comes out good.

If you have access to an oven, pour garlick powder & bbq sauce sauce over the bones and broil for 3 min. before you put it in.

To D A: either open up a pesach cookbook, or stick with hot pastrami.

Don’t forget the l’chaim, its half the experience!

in reply to: Buchorim Wearing Designer Clothing #971182

    1) The halachah is that a ben torah must dress (and act) in a way that denotes respectability. The gemara says that one who dresses sloppily and causes the torah to be looked down upon is chayav meesah (Shabbos 114b) (if I gave the wrong place I am sure someone will correct it).

    2) Charles Thywitt (considered a choshuv company)shirts were recently on sale for $30. Jos.A.Bank was $26. Hat Box Wrinkle-free shirts were 3 for $100. Mabye I can’t afford to buy non-designer.

3)Somebody who only buys black pants because he wants to portray a certain image is just as into his clothes as one who buys white pants. My point is; don’t pick on the clothing, pick on the image the wearer is trying to portray(the seebah, not the siman, in yeshivishe shprach).
