Oh, and I forgot supporting FFBBT613 in kollel, davening for me and every CR member, and sharing your recipe for gingerbread hamantashen!

I wear a white undershirt, black socks, and animal (leather) shoes. Rebyid probably wants to avoid looking like me.

I’m starting a new organization, STRAP (Society To prevent Racism Against Penguins). Any takers?

“From a typical, yeshivish, black hat family”? You’re still dating and he wants to learn in kollel?

Rema711: you’re the most generous person I’ve met in a long time. You’re flying us to Chicago and shipping cases of kaluah! (I haven’t had kaluah in years, since it lost the hechsher. I heard of the Mexican run, but never saw it.)

Any shtarke Yeshiva doesn’t want their talmidim on the internet, even for yeshiva world.

If you think the Nazi movement in Germany was just their grandparents and is dead now, you’re delusional. Being that being a Nazi was a status of cultural pride, together with their quality products, it was passed in many families from generation to generation. They want us dead now as much as ever.

I often have bagels or pizza with coffee motzai shabbos. Two out of three ain’t bad.

They used to have Kobe beef in Pomegranate for $80/lb, but it was a bit over my budget, so I haven’t tried it yet.

in reply to: Are Borsalino hats more stylish than other fedoras? #1056946

Oomis: If they takeh last longer, then they save money in the long run. This saves money for more important things. Yeshiva people try not to waste money, because money is time, and time is buttul torah. I’m not taking sides, I’m just trying to weigh things fairly.

Lior: I’m not arguing with you, I’m agreeing and elaborating a bit.

in reply to: Are Borsalino hats more stylish than other fedoras? #1056939

Low quality shirts look pretty bad even new, in my opinion. The price difference between a $12 cheap shirt or $20 respectable shirt (stafford, kirkland, eagle, ect..) or a $30 (Charles Thyrwitt) is not crazy, but the difference is huge. And yes, I can walk into shul shabbos morning and tell you who is wearing a low quality shirt faster than I can tell you who is wearing a Borsalino. Low quality shirts look, feel, and last like paper.

in reply to: Is Hertz German #1056728

I don’t want to give Germany money. I don’t care who invented what. The Germans were, and still are considered the pinnacle of civilization. They murdered us to maintain that high quality. As high as Nazi quality may be, its Nazi quality.

I’ve heard that and worse. I was in Yeshiva too!

in reply to: lakewood girls schools #1059673

In eretz yisrael, if you work you are considered a goy. In lakewood, you’re not a goy, just a second class citizen. Both of them have forgotten that in krias shema it says “v’asafta deganecha”, the gemara’s source that people should work. In fact, the last mishnah in kiddushin is dedicated to choosing a proper profession. Kollel is a wonderful ideal, but that doesn’t mean working people shouldn’t be able to get their kids into school.

I’m wearing the same style hat since my bar mitzvah. I’ve had to replace the hat a few times, though.

Yeshivos offer close to the same amount of credits peer semester that colleges do. If he has aBA whatever it becomes necessary to leave Yeshiva, he is only two and a half years away from a degree. This is not such an extreme amount of time. Meanwhile, there are plenty of jobs that a BA qualified you for that only require a minimum of training and pay respectably. From a financial stand point, kollel is viable, besides for the fact that hashem supports those that sit and learn his Torah. That is the lesson of the Tzinetes HaMann.

in reply to: lakewood girls schools #1059669

I’m davening for you and all the girls in lakewood and yerushalayim that are having an insane and harrowing experience trying to get their previous and wonderful daughters into schools.

in reply to: Who sings this song? #1056881

I cry when I listen to that song (Ahavas Yisrael/Together), and I am usually not prone to crying. Btw the original lyrics are:

I am an ancient wall of stone, atop a hill so high.

And if you listen with your heart, you just may hear my cry.

Where has the Bais HaMikdosh gone, I stand here all alone.

How long am I to wait for all my children to come home?

A house of marble and of gold once stood here by my side.

From far and wide all came to see its beauty and its pride.

But Sin’as Chinam brought it down, and with it so much pain.

Now only Ahavas Yisrael can build it once again.

Together, together, you stood by Har Sinai, my daughters and sons.

Forever, forever, you must stand together forever as one.

You come and stand beside my stones to raise your voice in prayer.

You ask “When will the Galus end, how much more can we bear?”.

But Sin’as Chinam still lives on, it lingers in your heart.

How can you come back home to me, while you remain apart?

Together, together, you stood by Har Sinai, my daughter and sons.

Forever, forever, you must stand together forever as one.

Together, together, you stood by Har Sinai, b’nai Avraham.

Forever, forever, you must stand together forever as one.

I just checked wikipedia, and Hertz was actually Jewish. That’s pretty ironic. (Volkswagen was actually also started by a Jew, but the Nazis took it over.)

Is that what your wife made for desert this shabbos? You better hope she doesn’t see that you posted Tante Kreindal’s famous desert bars under that heading. 😉 Just kidding!

in reply to: Are Borsalino hats more stylish than other fedoras? #1056928

The shape is the same, Borsalino just had a nicer finish, since it is higher quality. There ate a couple of exceptions to the shape rule, but you’ll be hard pressed to see the difference between a Roche or a Borsalino from 5 feet away.

in reply to: Is Hertz German #1056717

Thanks for the replies. I usually rent from a Jew whenever I have to rent in Brooklyn, but I’m gonna be out of town and want to know my options. Hertz with usaa or aaa is one of the cheapest, and has normal customer service ratings.

Btw for all those who only drink schnapps with a hechsher, Tomintoul 14 is better than the 16, and cheaper too. A whole list of Balvenies just got put in the non recommended list!

in reply to: drinking on purim, teaching kids? #1056444

Grey Goose and others of similar caliber are actually pretty good, but if I’m spending that amount I usually get a scotch or bourbon.

in reply to: drinking on purim, teaching kids? #1056443

I meant rum, as supposed to vodka. Bacardi rum is my standard neutral spirit. I don’t think Bacardi makes vodka.

in reply to: Are Borsalino hats more stylish than other fedoras? #1056921

Every hat starts off shaped the same, or basically the same. The question is how well that holds.

in reply to: drinking on purim, teaching kids? #1056441

I can’t drink cheap vodka, and don’t like paying for expensive. I stick with Bacardi.

in reply to: Why I'm an Ama'aretz #1060464

They say there are many advantages to am out of town upbringing, notably open mindedness. A lack of acceptance for other groups is one of our major issues we must deal with to bring moshiach.

in reply to: wrong again!! #1055812

I am saying if there was no evacuation and people would wait for the storm to hit before deciding what to do. Once it hits it is too late, often.

I wish we could post names, but I’m not sure if the moderators will allow that. Moderators, would you allow names of mechanchim worthy of mention to be posted?

That might be Avak Lashon Hara.

in reply to: Homemade Hummus Help #1056183

It looked like there were more moose on the wack-a-moose than in the state. But everywhere i looked there were moose t shirts, moose memorabilia, and stuffed moose. Maybe they takeh were all shot. An ode to the enduring spirit of the NH moose population, I present you with….. Guacamoose! 🙂

in reply to: Why I'm an Ama'aretz #1060462

You seem to have turned out amazing anyways. You are one of the sweetest people I know on the CR. What’s OOT?

in reply to: Permissible Motzei Shabbos Activities #1057090

I don’t care how old school you are, cholent for melave malka is one of the biggest disasters I can think of. And every food is taken from the surrounding culture. In 200 years, if chas veshalom moshiach hasn’t come yet, sushi will be the most yeshivish food around, since it will be from the alte heim. And not going to goyish college storms has been shown to have a drastic impact on OTD numbers, irrespective of cholent or sushi. That is why the colleges were put in cherem.

in reply to: Rebbes Affectionate with Children #1055938

Of course no one knows the true extent of the issue, because those that didn’t tell anyone didn’t tell anyone. I’m just trying to say not to lynch everyone in public opinion in the name of not sticking your head in the sand.

in reply to: Rebbes Affectionate with Children #1055937

I am the last person to stick my head in the sand about this issue. I first became acquainted with it dealing with victims of abuse, so I am painfully aware that it goes on. All I am saying is that YES, we ARE better than the goyim. Unfortunately out is an issue that must be dealt with, but the witchhunt is out of proportion. We do have sick individuals, but 99% of the mechanchim who show affection to the children do it because they actually care about them, not because they are abusive. (I started a post expressing appreciation to these wonderful people.) Boruch hashem, we have a Torah, and mitzvos, and as a whole are earnest people striving to grow. We are more uplifted than the depraved world out there. The unfortunate fact is that it is incredibly easy to accuse someone about this and ruin his life, because there is no fair trial neither in the courts not in public opinion. People are scared top speak up on both sides of the issue. It certainly must be dealt with, but not with any preconceived prejudice either way. We should be proud of who we are!

I just found that also. Its pretty bad, (I would love the original), but its exactly the song I was looking for. Thank you so much!

Chicago is actually one of the beautiful communities i was zoche to visit (for a simchah), and i loved it! Nicest people. Thnx for the recipe!

in reply to: ATTENTION all High School Teachers #1058920

I once got a tomato. It spoke for itself.

in reply to: Rebbes Affectionate with Children #1055933

The finger pointers are saying our communities are at least as bad, and probably worse sure to the fact you’re unlikely to get caught, than the rest of the world. Do you honestly think that’s true? I can’t tell you a real answer, and nobody can, because nobody knows the actual rates, being that it its not something announces on the radio after he does it; both in our community and in the world at large. I do, however, personally know of false cases.

in reply to: Rebbes Affectionate with Children #1055930

Exactly. They are disproportionately after religious groups to show that we’re not any holier. And much of the hype and resulting arrests are entirely fabricated, because now politicians are trying to show that they are cracking down. Activists in the community don’t want to get involved because they don’t want to add to the image of covering up for pedophiles. I was personally told this by leading rabbanim and askanim.

In a hurricane, the potential harm from not evacuating justifies the evacuation. Also, in a hurricane, there is no time to see it develop and decide to leave; once it has started it is to late. I did hear that the closure order came from the governor.
