Your carry on cannot weigh more than 8 kilo. On my way there from EWR I had to check it in as a second bag. On the way back, I had to shuffle some seforim from the carry on to the suitcase to satisfy the carry on weight cap of 8 kilo. This was Jan 28 to Feb 4 of this year. Todah
I agree that the OTD may gain from the relationship, but what will the son of this person have from it? A relationship needs to be two way, similar to a marriage, I guess. When one has something from it and the other doesn’t, “doesn’t” feels used and the relationship will fail. In our case, you’re opening up the possibility for the frum kid to save the relationship by bringing himself down to the level of the OTD, and that’s a disaster in the making
A friendship is a two way relationship, jus like any other relationship. Both sides need to get something out of it.

(BTW, my son’s best friend went OTD, and yes, I was advised by Gedolim to discoursge my son from having anything to do with him. And boy am I happy that I listened. Other kids that said, “No, we have to be nice to him” are now right there with him, while my son K”H is shteiging away.)

He wants to know if he should allow his son to befriend his OTD friend. And the answer is, no, stay away like the plague. And yes, YELL IT OUT TO EMPHASIZE THE POINT. There is NO BENEFIT, I repeat, NO BENEFIT to the son in upkeeping a relationship with a close peer that is into drugs and the L-rd knows what else.
I agree, it’s sad that this happened, but for the son’s sake DISCOURAGE him from maintaining this relationship.

I grew up yeshivish and still am yeshivish, but the way the women dress today is a nisayon for EVERYBODY. Whether they admit it or not, it’s a nisayon. BIG TIME. Women are revealing body parts that have been covered forever. Yes, even yeshivisha women are doing it. Come to my neighborhood, you’ll see a typical yeshivisha guy with the unkempt beard and dirty eyeglasses walking with his wife dressed like you wouldn’t believe; short, tight, etc. The scary part is, the younger generation of women are growing up with this, and they’re thinking it’s normal.

DaMoshe is CORRECT! Kvetching and complaining will not work most of the time. By causing the manager to have one of his employees dedicated to do a ridiculous, unnecessary, and preventable job, i.e. putting back all the more expensive brands that you brought up to the register, he will think of ways for this NOT to happen & then conclude that it’s worth it to make the prices clear. In the long run, it’s not only the prices that bring people in, it’s the pleasant shopping experience. Not having prices displayed makes for a rather unpleasant shopping experience.

I just spoke to someone who bought the Bosch with the stainless steel bowl online from cutleryandmore.com. It turns out that the stainless bowl that they sell with the machine is NOT the challah bowl. It’s a steel version of the plastic bowl, not the challah bowl.

The older Bosch machines came with a metal “cap” that you click the wire whisk beaters onto. In the newer Bosch machines (4 -5yrs. old) that cap is PLASTIC. When mixing a cookie dough, if you use the plastic cap and whisk beaters, the whisks will bend or come apart and the plastic cap will bend into a pretzel. (I’ve seen it all!) For cookie batter, you need the METAL cap AND the cookie paddles. If you have the cookie paddles already, all you need is the metal cap.

The steel bowl that they’re selling for $79.99 is a steel version of the plastic bowl. For challah you need the Steel bowl that mixes from the bottom. The dough hook from the plastic bowl will NOT work on the Challah steel bowl. You would have to buy the bowl with a cover and a dough hook and that one they’re selling for $169.99.
A Bosch complete with BOTH bowls and dough hooks is $450.00 from them & $500.00 where I sell it.
As someone who sells Kitchen Aid, Bosch, and Magic Mill, I can say with certainty that the Bosch outsells all the others by far.
Those of you who are getting a good deal on Bosch mixers from the internet, just know that they don’t come with the Stainless Steel Bowl which you’ll need for Challah. To buy the bowl seperately will cost you in the area of $125.00 or even $150.00 (or more.)
For those who don’t find the Bosch good for the heavy cookie dough, they have for sale a cookie paddle set that comes with a metal cap, that should take care of that problem.
I really feel bad bad for them. Imagine being so destitute that you have to go around collecting in shuls. Nebach, how I feel for them. They have no morning, no night, just rush, rush, all day to put some pittance together so that they can finally fo back to their families. I really feel bad for them.
I give them whatever I can, and when I don’t have or I can’t, I simply smile warmly at them and tell them (or gesture) that I just don’t have any money.
Pardon my frankness, but to have bochurin start dating early is a rediculous, non-sensical idea! If the divorce rate among young frum couples is on the rise, which unfortunately it is, then having bochurim starting to date at an earlier age will increase that rate tremendously. Today’s bochurim are less mature, not more mature. SaysMe is right. Have the girls wait till they’re 21 at least, to start dating. They’ll be more mature too, and they’ll probably have some type of career path set up and have a more solid stance on what their looking for in a husband, as well.

In the State of New Jersey, one needs a specific “Barber’s License” aside from the regular local township “License To Do Business.” To acquire this Barber’s License one needs to take a state sponsored course on haircutting. That’s why you don’t find any frum barber shops around.

This is one of the reasons that I stopped looking at Ami magazine many months ago. Many of their stories and articles leave you sayin, “What’s the point?” Some of the stories are just simply pointless without any (positive) lesson to to be taken from.
Also, many of their articles are just “a bi” to get under your skin or to cause animosity towards someone or some group.
Sorry YD, it’s the truth. The “Lakewood” stereotype is changing fast.

Be smart & stay as far away from Lakewood as you can. The OTD rate for teens is climbing fast. Even for pre-teens. It’s rediculous. And Tznious? Forget about it. The women’s clothing is getting tighter & shorter by the week. Even by the “yeshivisha” people.
And as far as getting your kids in to schools in Lakewood, be prepared to be humiliated and degraded and thrown from one bin to another.

Forget the eating and stay far away from these places on Motzo’ey Shabbos. It’s almost impossible not to get caught in the trap, one way or another.

Personally, I don’t read Artscroll Gedolim biographies anymore.
Every single one is exactly the same.
For small areas, ceramic heaters are very good. They’re safe, and most brands shut off when tipped over. They’re also (relatively) cool to the touch.
For larger areas, a good quality oil filled radiator heater is effective. An even larger area could require a second one, but usually not.
Whatever you choose, especially the radiator, just give it time to heat the place up. They won’t heat up a room instantly, they need time to work.

I’m not paskening a shailoh or telling anybody what to do, I’m just responding to the following statement from zahavasdad, “Maybe B & H disables their websites, but you cant do that with eBay and Amazon.”
As an aside, anybody who knows anything about the operations at B & H can figure out the high madreigah that they have to be on to totally shut their site to buyers on Saturday. It’s one of the most, if not THE most, popular day for online shopping and B & H does TREMENDOUS volume through their site. For them to just cut it off on Friday at sunset for 25 hours, is an amazingly high madreigah and is a lesson to all.

On eBay you can set your auctions to end not on Shabbos and if you’re only offering a buy it now, you can set you your items on vacation settings every Friday.
On Amazon as well, set your account every Friday that your items should NOT be listed for sale.
Do that and you’ll be on the same high madreigah as B & H.
