@Squeak I did not write, but omitted the word Purified in front of the word water. Orange Soda is full of food colours and unatural ingredients, will stain the Tablecloth or furniture. If I saw a bottle in in my home I would throw it in the Rubbish Bin. A decent Water Purifier (Reverse Osmosis) either fits on the tap or under the sink, and will purify your drinking water more so then unfiltered tap water. Given a choice which one would you rather drink Orange Soda or relatively Clean Water Purified water?

in reply to: Orange Soda #704347

Why not drink water? Bottled, Filtered any way you drink, it will not stain like Orange Soda or Coke. It is healthier, thirst quenching and refreshing.

Grow a beard then you don’t have to worry about cleaning up facial hairs.

in reply to: Shaving cleanup tips #703556

Another possibility is to put a basket that fits in your sink drain. Then all you have to do is spray water on the hairs so they fall into the basket. Then use a keenex and clean the basket, and put the basket back in the sink drain.

in reply to: What makes a person "real"? #702791

I think a real person is someone who is sincere, truthful and kind. Real people have middos, and accept people as they are. In the world today the real person is as rare as a genuine diamond. Perhaps one has to become polished and shine once again.

@emoticon613 thanks you are right about unfiltered honey. Substitute the unfiltered honey with a nutritious and grounding Honey like filtered Buckwheat or Kasha Honey which is very grounding. Also Chamomile (Roman or German) and Lavender Essential Oil drops on a Tissue inhaled are very calming. The last idea mischiefmaker is to cut down on sugar, cafeinated drinks including Coke and Coffee, and substitute with Herbal Teas. Good luck.

in reply to: Canker Sore #702282

Tincture of Myyrh really works. Just 1 or 2 drops on a cotton bud or q tip will heal the Canker Sore. Myyrh must be reapplied several times to be effective. How do I know this, because I have used Myyrh on Canker Sores for about 25 years. Tincture of Myyrh must be 100% natural. This can be purchased in a Pharmacy that sells Natural Products, or your local Health/Natural Food Store.

Drink a nice cup kosher Valarian Root (sweeten the tea with some raw kosher unfiltered honey) Tea.

in reply to: Sleep Remedies #700180

Goldielox try a few drops of 100% natural Orange Essential Oil and Lavender Essential Oil drops on your pillow. The combination of the two Essential Oils acts as a sedative (natural) for insomnia. Alternatively a Neti Pot is also good, because it opens the nasal passages promoting better breathing for good restful sleep.

in reply to: Help with Cold #702820

Sister Bear after inhaling hot Essential Oil steam, you may need to drink water (filtered if possible) to rehydrate. This is good as water will help flush toxins out, and help heal the body to recuperate.

in reply to: What is the purpose of marriage? #698810

Exactly oomis this is hopefully why people get married.

in reply to: Help with Cold #702819

Sister Bear- Use the hot water until the temperature becomes cool, when that happens add more hot water. Probably inhale the steamed water for about 15-20 minuits. I would not add more then 3 or 4 drops of Eucalyptus or Tea Tree Essential Oil. Meaning if you use Tea Tree do not use more then about 4 drops. Using Eucalyptus, and Tea Tree Essential Oils together 2drops Eucalyptus and 2 drops Tea Tree Essential Oils. This is very important make sure the Essential Oils are 100% pure and natural. Sister Bear do not consume the Essential Oils, because they are to be used internally only externally. Make sure they are out of reach from young children.

in reply to: Help with Cold #702808

Don’t forget using Cayene Peper, as well as other spices: Thyme; Tumeric; Coriander; Cardamom;Curry; Rosemary; Basil; Cinnamon; Cloves to name a few. Shitake Mushrooms are very healing for colds. Vitamin d3 may help boost the immune system.

in reply to: Help with Cold #702803

Sister Bear-Try Olbas Oil it is very good. Gum Oil Eucalyptus and Tea Tree Oil dropped on a tissue and inhaling the vapors can help. Also put into a pot of boiling water drops of Eucalyptus and Tea Tree Essential Oils, and place a thick towel covering the pot inhaling the vapors under the towel. Neti Pot filled with tepid saline(salt water)soution, and irrigating both nostrils also works. Eating Chraine (Horseraddish with Beets and Lemon Juice) is another remedy. The truth is there are many other things that will improve and boost the immune system. Sleeping more and drinking a lot of water is a given. Refuah Shleima.

in reply to: How do you put your children to sleep? #702343

Poster a friend of my mine did this, and it actually worked! Make a recording of your voice, and when it it bed time turn the lights off, and turn the recorder on. This will work only in a calm and relaxed environment. The voice of the parent is soothing, comforting and calming to the baby or toddler or young child/children. Try this and see if it works.

in reply to: Bed Bugs in Boro Park! #800231

@AinOhdMilvado Oregano is not a bubba-maaiseh it actually works. How do I know this, because we had a bedbug problem, and we crumbled Oregano Leaves on the infested area. Bedbugs were found dead in the crumbled Oregano. The Essential Oregano Oil is more concentrated, then the Crumbled Leaf. For that one would need to fill a Spritzer Bottle of water and add so many drops of EO. to the bottle, depending on the amount of water added. Besides I would rather not add Exterminator Insecticide in my Daled Amos.

in reply to: Bed Bugs in Boro Park! #800229

Oregano either crumbled old leaves or pure Essential Oil is a repellent for bedbugs. They don’t like the scent, and it is strong enough to snuff bedbugs.

People who are diabetic that use sugar to sweeten their coffee, try Stevia (natural alternative to sugar)as a substitute. You only need a pinch to sweeten the cup.

in reply to: Vitamin D #715881

Chance I have heard positive things about d3. D3 has been suggested as an alternative to receiving a flu shot. Adults can take at least 5,000 IU of d3 a day. Children are recommended to take a smaller amount of d3. Being out in the Sun is good, because Sunlight can provide a more natural source of Vitamin D. Apparently Vitamin D can help the immune system stay healthy. Diet, and help from Hashem are important in keeping the body healthy. Fatty fish such a Salmon are a good source of Vitamin D.

in reply to: Diabetes Support Group #979695

rebbitzen I have been reading with interest about the supplement vitamin d3, how it might help people who are diabetic. Apparently diabetes is one of the things the supplement can help. Most people are deficient in vitamin d. It might be worthwhile to get ones vitamin d tested by their primary care physcian. Have other CR posters read this?

Chacham do you (or someone in your family) have the DNA tested? Which company did your family use to take a DNA sample from?

in reply to: Low Fat/Sugar Recipes for Yom Tov #693620

Shan try to stay away from sugar most of it poison for the body, instead consider using Stevia. Stevia is a plant based alternative to sugar. This can be substituted for sugar. As far as I know there are no health concerns from using Stevia. Stevia is 200-300 times sweeter than sugar, and it has a heksher. So all you need for example is a pinch to sweeten a cup of coffee. Stevia can help one (with Hashems help) lose weight. I started using it about a week ago, as I try to cut down my sugar intake. Stevia may help the Pancreas(I know sugar does not), and may help people with diabetes.

Derech HaMelech- Almond Butter is excellent to eat, because Almonds are a complete protein. I love Almond Butter (yum) and Apple Butter Sandwich. Hydrate- drink a lot of fluids if you are eating Almond Butter to help digest the Sandwich, and help empty the stomach which will help you fast.

in reply to: High Cholesterol #713940

Health how many hours of diet and nutrition courses did you take in Medical School?

in reply to: High Cholesterol #713937

I think personally supplements (vitamin, mineral, amino acid …) are good, one can’t replace a good and balanced diet. If one wants to include supplements to reduce cholestral, keep the immune system vibrant then incorporate this with a good diet. There are plenty of natural food stores that sell foods (fruits, vegetables, whole grains, macrobiotic..) and supplements. Exercise and attitude are also important in maintaing good health. Asking Hashem to help stay healthy is crucial.

Thanks amichai- You are right when will we learn that driving a vehicle is a privilege not an entitled right of age. What I mean is one needs follow the rules of the road, as well as not putting passangers human or animal in danger by not being focussed on the road as well as the other vehicles that are in proximity to your vehicle.

An alarm clock (to be a good one) needs a loud alarm, so when it rings it wakes you out of sleep mode.

in reply to: Can’t Get Out of Bed in The Morning… #683537

Here Down Under they sell a barking alarm clock, that one needs to press a button to stop the Bull Dog from barking and you are awake in order to do so.

Thanks sm29- you are 100% right.

in reply to: Mental Health #687508

Chance you are 100% right. Part of the problem are the foods children consume. Sweets (lollies here) are coated with sugar and chemicals which are known to be a contributing factor in ADD and hyperactivity in Children. Proper nutrition and having parents maintaining a stable stable home can help. Many of our health problems could be better serviced if we make intelligent and informed choices as far eating less trans fats, junk food and list goes on.

Heshy what things interest your sons? Perhaps finding an outlet (whether it be playing a musical instrument, or sports…) would help alleviate the boredom.

in reply to: Night Snack #683565

Only liquids before retiring for the night. Give the stomache a chance to rest and not make it work too hard digesting a lot of food before sleeping. Fruit a good way to start the day before eating breakfast in the morning, because of the fruit fiber.

in reply to: Why are we Suffering? #674988

Chance you are 100% right. Having a strong Immune System helps by eating a healthy diet (no smoking and drinking very little even on Purim) with good Vitamin and Mineral Supplementation. Antioxidants can also help support a strong and vibrant Immune System. Praying to Hashem the real healer for a healing so one can do ones Avodas Hashem is also part of healing. Maintaing a positive attitude by doing chesed is also a part of it. Exercising which produce oxygen to the organs is vital.

in reply to: Hangover Remedies #674237

The best thing to do for a hangover is to hydrate. Water replaces moisture lost. Feverfew is good for headaches. Lime Aid with lots of Limes with sugar or honey is also good for a hangover.

in reply to: To Drink or Not to Drink? #674721

Save the drinking in your own home not in the Bais Medresh. Moshka smells awful when imbibing among the Siddurim and the Seforim and Hashems Sefer Torah. Please don’t drive after consuming Moshka. Designate someone sober to drive. Keep the roadways safe during Chag Purim!

in reply to: Hangover Remedies #674226

There is no mitzvah to get a hangover on Purim.

in reply to: Hangover Remedies #674225

Drink in moderation, if you need to drink on Purim (don’t drink too much) set a limit this way you will not get to the hangover stage.

in reply to: Shabbos Throws Me Off Kilter #1104666

Heshy the problem is the type of Challah purchased. What I mean unless your family eats Whole Wheat Multi Grain, Sour Dough or Spelt Challot then the body does not have fiber which could pevent constipation providing one consumes lots of liquids to push the food from the mouth to the liver the final processing of digesting the food.

smartcookie- Morning Time- I eat Oatmeal with Blueberries sweetened with Honey. I pour Oat Milk on top of the Oatmeal. I take a Muli Vitamin with Supplements to keep my Immune System Healthy.

Tea Time mid morning break two or three Cookies and a cup of Herbal Tea.

Lunch Time a Sandwich and a cup of Tea usually after Lunch.

Dinner- Soy Protein or Fish, Pasta, Brown Rice sometimes, Potatoes. Water or Herbal Tea after the Dinner Meal. I try to follow the principle (endorsed by the Rambam) to wait several hours before retiring after eating dinner.

Smart Cookie if you want to create Healthy Changes in you and your family start Shopping (as much as possibe) at the local Natural Food Store. If you can afford it purchase (if you do not own one) a decent Pressure Cooker. Stock up on Whole Grains and Legumes. Whole Grains and Legumes purchased not processed generally do not need a hecscher. You must however check for Bugs. Olive Oil (Kosher Naturally) is a good choice for healthy Oil. Natural Food Stores provide an assortment of Healthy Cook Books for sale. Good Luck.
