December 16, 2020 4:28 pm at 4:28 pm in reply to: to tip or not to tip that is the question #1929187yaakov doeParticipant
It’s illegal for government employees to accept tips. Your generous thoughtful gifts to your spouses and children can be considered tips and are legal.
yaakov doeParticipantI’ve heard Biden answer questions and never seen any signs of dementia. On the other hand Trump’s vocabulary and sentence structure have declined over recent years. He has his unique words such as “biggly” , spoke about Yo Semite, claimed the American troops took the airports from the Redcoats in 1775, and claimed the flu epidemic of 1917 brought an end 2 World War 2. Trump also spoke of “tippy toppy” missiles. I hope they don’t tip over from being top heavy. Trump even forgot that he Kew Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal and in 2016 claimed he didn’t know who David Duke was although he spoke of Duke several years earlier. It’s well known among his former business associates that he has a short attention span, often described as that of a flea or fruit fly.
If it’s not dementia, it must be extreme ignorance.yaakov doeParticipantThe steal is Trump conning his supporters out of money to pay for the election challenges. Reading the fine print on the solicitation makes it clear that very little to going to the court costs, much is lining Trump’s pockets, A question recently posed was why don’t Trump and his children fund the election challenge since they are reputed to be billionaires? Don’t they believe in the cause?
November 23, 2020 8:49 pm at 8:49 pm in reply to: Michigan just certified for Biden. What is the Presidents next move? #1922433yaakov doeParticipantI expect the Federal marshals will drag him out in cuffs on the afternoon of January 20th while he’s yelling that he’s the President.
yaakov doeParticipantWe need recounts in Florida, Texas, the Dakotas Ohio and New Mexico
November 20, 2020 10:29 am at 10:29 am in reply to: If Trump does win, how would you react…? #1921585yaakov doeParticipantTrump lost. He just can’t accept the fact that he’s a loser.
yaakov doeParticipantAfter Trump faces the numerous civil and criminal cases that await him when he leaves office, I doubt he’ll be able to run again.
November 8, 2020 3:26 pm at 3:26 pm in reply to: State Legislatures Should Give Trump Reelection Win #1917840yaakov doeParticipantWe need a 2 state solution. Let the majority Trump states leave the union. Let Kentucky try to manage without depending on the Federal taxes New Yorkers pay in. Fox News could even be the official network of the Trumpian States of America.
yaakov doeParticipantShould I color my hair orange and comb it like Trump, and spray tan my face to vote?
yaakov doeParticipantInteresting comparison. Trump does use deception and is self serving.
yaakov doeParticipantWhat happened with the much hyped National Trump Day on Sunday November 1st? No media coverage at all that I’m aware of.
yaakov doeParticipantOddly, I hear people say that if Biden wins they are moving to Israel after supporting Trump because Biden is bad for Israel. Now, does that make any sense at all?
yaakov doeParticipantHeshy and the other great minds behind the motorcade did it to instigate jeers and violence. It will not influence the New York state electoral vote which will certainly be for Biden.
yaakov doeParticipantDon’t worry, it’s not going to happen. Trump will not win.
yaakov doeParticipantANTIFA stands for anti fascist. How many readers of YWN are pro fascist?
yaakov doeParticipantTo those urging people in New York to vote for Trump you should realize that it’s nearly impossible for Trump to win in New York state. I have as much chance of winning New York as does Trump.
yaakov doeParticipantThe Democrats brought you Medicare, Medicaid and the SNAP program all of which benefit our community.
yaakov doeParticipantYvette Clarke has been an invisible Member of Congress during most of her time serving. Her claim to fame is her statement on a late night TV show that slavery ended in Brooklyn in the 1880’s.
Chaim Deustch is a sincere man who started Flatbush Shomrim years ago, worked for elected officials and is presently serving in City Council. We could do much worse than Chaim. If the community actually votes he has a good chjasnce of winning.
If elected the contest for his City Council seat will be interesting.
yaakov doeParticipantAfter his loss Trump would sit on the floor of the oval office, have a tantrum and refuse to leave. Ivanka would then take his to a psych ward where he woukd be medicated.
yaakov doeParticipantAssemblymember Helene Weinstein has in past years arranged for several dumpsters in her district.
yaakov doeParticipantPerhaps someone from the Coffee Room who has an in at the White House could pass this vital information to the President so he can announce it at his briefing.
yaakov doeParticipantIs there a reason that you don’t cite sources for this outlandish claim? It’s the kind of bobba meisa that one would expect to find on Alex Jones’ Infowars, a site with zero credibility.
yaakov doeParticipantTrump is exactly what we don’t want our children to be. He’s a serial liar with no moral compass.
I’m middle class and both this year and last I am paying more in Federal tax because of the Trump rich peoples tax cut. The $10k cap on deduction of taxes really hurts.January 27, 2020 9:02 pm at 9:02 pm in reply to: Why is the Wider Frum Public Making a Big Deal Over Bryant’s Death #1826593yaakov doeParticipantI know nothing about this Koby Bryant. All the Kobys that I know are Yaakovs.
yaakov doeParticipantIt’s possible using grama technology with an electric car but it could never pass government requirements for motor vehicles because of issues like turn signals and brake lights.
January 23, 2020 4:08 pm at 4:08 pm in reply to: Selective Service System – Do you register your sons? #1825519yaakov doeParticipantLocal draft boards do exist in New York with one Board for each zip code. There are vacancies on numerous boards. Those interested in applying should check the Selective Service website. I have served on a draft board for over 20 years. I am aware of other frum Yiddin including Chassidim serving on Boards in Brooklyn. I serve because I feel our presence of members of our community is necessary We no longer have in person annual training due to budget constraints, but are kept informed of changes and receive online refresher training. If the draft is reinstated I assure you we are ready.
yaakov doeParticipantThe Beyond burger with Swiss cheese (cholov Yisroel of course).
January 16, 2020 3:19 pm at 3:19 pm in reply to: The End of the Ashkenaz Community in Flatbush #1823562yaakov doeParticipantMy first house in Flatbush cost $35,900 in 1974 when I was earning about $10,000 a year. Typical Flatbush houses ranged in price at that time from $50,000 – $65,000. Keep in mind the mortgage rates were 8.5% in 1974 and as high as 17% in the spring of 1980. Back then real estate taxes were much lower in NYC than in the suburbs but have now quickly crept up. Two bedroom apartments were available for under $300 in those years. A couple earning both minimum wage could afford an apartment and middle class families could afford homes.
I only have observations, not answers. I don’t see the end of the Flatbush community, but the graying of it which has more of an impact on the yeshivot than the shuls. Perhaps as large numbers of aging homeowners downsize house prices will drop. The young Sefardim are in the same predicament as the Litvish. Not all Sefardim are wealthy.
January 13, 2020 1:38 pm at 1:38 pm in reply to: Why hasn’t the frumvelt embraced democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang #1822233yaakov doeParticipantYang is best known among Yiddin for his opposition to Bris Milah. Isn’t that enough reason not to support him?
January 12, 2020 8:06 pm at 8:06 pm in reply to: Are there (intelligent) yidden on other plants? #1822068yaakov doeParticipantOf course the Yiddin on other planets are intelligent. Why should they be different than other Yiddin. I want to know if they all have the same minhaggim and daven the same nusach.
January 10, 2020 1:29 pm at 1:29 pm in reply to: Are there (intelligent) yidden on other plants? #1821637yaakov doeParticipantMeno, when you get to Mars you can ask your local orthodox Martian rabbi this interesting shila. He certainly has heard it before.
yaakov doeParticipantCan you imagine to bloodshed when poorly trained well meaning bal habatim open fire in a crowded shul, especially when some are active in the kiddush club. Trained cops kill other cops in friendly fire accidents and use quite a few shots to hit a bad guy. Perhaps I should wear a bullet proof vest under my kapota.
January 8, 2020 8:54 pm at 8:54 pm in reply to: Plant=based chazerfleish in your shabbos chulent?? #1821205yaakov doeParticipantIs plant based beef in cholent ok with you?
January 5, 2020 8:42 pm at 8:42 pm in reply to: Blocking a driveway/גזל שינה. Y park on the street when you have a driveway? #1819240yaakov doeParticipantA driveway is meant to be used to drive into or out of a garage. There is also a “parking” pad which doesn’t lead to a garage. And of course there are numerous illegal curb cuts and illegal front lawn parking.
I didn’t write the laws.January 5, 2020 12:43 pm at 12:43 pm in reply to: Blocking a driveway/גזל שינה. Y park on the street when you have a driveway? #1819080yaakov doeParticipantI is against the law to park in a New York City driveway overnight. While on the books I have never heard of enforcement.
November 27, 2019 10:21 am at 10:21 am in reply to: Why are the liberals going to bus dangerous youths from OOT into Flatbush? #1805003yaakov doeParticipantIt’s about the $$$. The conservative temple has dwindling membership and the school is spending $5 million on renovations to the school building. I would assume it’s taxpayers money. They are treating their temple as a business where the almighty dollar reigns supreme.
EMJC was late in adopting the new stream of the conservative movement with egalitarian prayer and musical instruments on Shabbos and it appears that these changes did not boost membership which has been on decline for years.
They should sell as the reform temple on Avenue R & East 16th did years ago and the conservative temple on Ocean Avenue and Avenue I did. There is little market for their brand.November 24, 2019 6:05 pm at 6:05 pm in reply to: Should frum yidden remove all plants from the home during the month of december? #1803845yaakov doeParticipantSounds like a chumra we should all accept. Anyone who isn’t accepting this chumra interested in taking 83 thriving cannabis plants for the holiday season?
yaakov doeParticipantCT Lawyer, Johnnie Walker Blue is an overpriced status Scotch that doesn’t compare with a bottle of moderat;ly priced 12 year old “Livit , Singleton or even Toumintol Tlath.
I haven’t see Canadian Club in a great many years. Years ago it was commonly served in shuls along with Seagrams. Try a dram of single malt and you’ll see what you’re missing. In keeping with the chassidish minhag it goes great between the fish and the meat on Shabbos Kodesh.yaakov doeParticipantThere are a lot more Shabossim and Yom Toivim besides Simchas Torah when a shot or 2 goes between the fish and the meat. The Trump tariff is an unfair tax on Yiddim. I don’t see him winning this trade war anytime soon.
September 4, 2019 7:00 pm at 7:00 pm in reply to: Younger siblings waiting for older to get engaged #1784038yaakov doeParticipantIf I had followed that minhag I’d still be waiting. At the age of 71 the older sibling does no seem to be moving in the direction of marriage.
February 1, 2019 2:50 pm at 2:50 pm in reply to: Why Won’t My Mother Let Me Get A Shidduch? #1672495yaakov doeParticipantPerhaps because posing such a question here shows a lack of maturity?
January 29, 2019 1:10 pm at 1:10 pm in reply to: Mazel Tov! Last Anti-Torah Synagouge in BP Being Demolished #1670613yaakov doeParticipantI’m told that in recent times they haven’t even been able to get a reform “minyon” on Shabbos having only the female “rabbi” and 3 other women.
yaakov doeParticipantI doubt that there’s actually a lack on tznius on Central Avenue in the winter. Yankle should see what the “frum” women with shaitels wear in the summer in both the Five Towns and Flatbush. Keep your eyes downn once the weather warms up is my advice.
yaakov doeParticipantSorry to tell you they are allowed to park on residential streets just like taxis are,
December 19, 2018 9:51 pm at 9:51 pm in reply to: Illegal curb cuts and NO PARKING signs in Boro Park #1648250yaakov doeParticipantThere are “parking pads” and “driveways” in NYC, Neither is allowed unless it’s at least 18′ deep from the legal curb cut. Curb cuts require permits and it is illegal to paint any markings on the city street or city owned curb. Parking in front yards is never permitted. The illegal curb cuts contribute to the parking nightmare in Boro Park and deprive motorists of legal curbside parking spaces. From time to time the issue of serious enforcement to crack down on the illegal curb cuts comes up in City Council and within the Buildings Department which is the agency with enforcement responsibility., and it appears that a new enforcement initiative is coming soon.
December 14, 2018 3:04 pm at 3:04 pm in reply to: What’s the best way to drink the morning coffee? #1644873yaakov doeParticipantWith your mouthof course. Is there any other way?
yaakov doeParticipantOf course I remember when it was TV Vues, Then as now I quickly flip through it one line Tuesday night just looking at the upcoming grocery sales. Torah Times, which started later and has many more ads, isn’t available on line. I dout that anyone looks at the TV schedule.
October 21, 2018 9:39 pm at 9:39 pm in reply to: Looking to sell a between 100-250 used Excellent condition seforim #1608146yaakov doeParticipantEbay or any of the frum Yahoo groups
August 1, 2018 10:30 pm at 10:30 pm in reply to: Should YWN post the negative stories of Jews? #1568213yaakov doeParticipantThe question is why should there even be negative stories about Yiddin. We have a Torah and we answer to a Higher Authority.
July 3, 2018 3:20 pm at 3:20 pm in reply to: Why does the Yeshiva World constantly post anti Trump articles #1551796yaakov doeParticipantIf Trump wasn’t so inept , corrupt and offensive there would be nothing negative to post
YWN should report the news regardless of an elected offical’s position for or against Yiddin and Israel. Just the facts. -
