Pleased to hear about the popcorn machine at Oh Nuts. One would also assume that the employees don’t use the popcorn machine to warm up their lunches.
December 18, 2011 6:03 pm at 6:03 pm in reply to: kashrus horror stories (2 help us realize the severity) #836503yaakov doeParticipantI heard that a particular donut chain that has a questionable hashgocha used to serve a parve vegetarian bacon until once the State kashrus inspectors found that the non Jewish workers had erroniously accepted a delivery of real bacon. I understand that they no longer serve that product, but things are warmed up in microwaves and with no Jew present in the establishment. What would keep the workers from warming up their meals in the microwave.
Certainly you don’t think that the d. donuts employees only eat donuts and coffee day in and day out.
Do you need donuts so badly that you’ll compromise on kashrus?
yaakov doeParticipantNothing wrong with s couple of years older, but a 21 year old marrying a 35 year old woman – there’s something wrong there.
yaakov doeParticipantDisgusting practice, but certainly better than eyebrow, lip, and tongue piercing. Eliezer and Rivka were in the middle east where nose rings may have been common at the time.
It certainly doesn’t add anything.
yaakov doeParticipantI have seen robes that aren’t tznuis.
Edited
yaakov doeParticipantAs a parent of a member, I don’t see a problem with a merchant showing appreciation through a discount. I assure you that my son didn’t join to get a discount or for status, but to help fellow Yiddin.
yaakov doeParticipantCan a tiny goldfish take on all the avairos?
yaakov doeParticipantConsidering the quality of the Republicans seeking the office, he will probably win. You’d think that their leadership would find a candidate that has a chance instead of the current field.
yaakov doeParticipantI think PBA was referring to a former congressman from Queens who isn’t halachicly married.
yaakov doeParticipantIn the begining the Conservative religion was simply an Americanized orthodoxy similiar to the Young Israel movement. Shabbos, kashrus etc were not abandoned till later years. At one time in the 20’s or 30’s there were discussions to merge YU and JTS.
Over the years they have strayed further and further in a failed attempt at self perpetuation of a spiritually bankrupt religion, only to lose their members to orthodoxy and reform. There is no place for a middle ground.
Egalitarian temples do not differentiate between men and women and have women “rabbis” and cantors and of course mixed choirs.
Soloman Shechter would not recognize what he faith has become.
yaakov doeParticipantTexting during Mass? Should it be mutter?
yaakov doeParticipantIsn’t the problem the aidim?
yaakov doeParticipantMy understanding that such heterim are not given to divorced women with children, only those without.
yaakov doeParticipantDepends on what she looks like. However I can’t understand why any girl would want to do that.
yaakov doeParticipantI don’t know where Turner davens, but Weprin davens at the Young Israel of Jamaica Estates. This race has gotten out of hand with the ads, accusations and non stop robo calls. Simplistic ads insulting the voters intell1gence from both sides.
yaakov doeParticipantNO NEVER! My wife would be very upset if I did.
yaakov doeParticipantAt what age should a person be on the internet?
yaakov doeParticipantI also don’t like the look, but it certainly kept me dry this Shabbos. A top rated innovation for the community, like the Shabbos lamp.
If a designer logo was on it it would be a hot item for the goysha world too.
yaakov doeParticipantI’m an Ebay Power Seller and I sell one item that dozens of other sellers have listed. My price is towards the high end, but I have very high positive feedback and do ok. I advise you to look for what other sellers have, check the completed auctions for percentage sold and price and then find a source that can supply item at a good price. You want something easy to ship or an item you can have drop shipped.

You are excluded from having your info reported if:

yaakov doeParticipantKylbdnr: No, it’s not true. Is it true thae Sfardim can have 7 wives?
yaakov doeParticipantSeveral years ago there was a “reform rabbi” who married his gay partner on Tisha B’Av in Massachusetts in a “traditional Jewish ceremony”. Very hard to understand their religion.
July 26, 2011 1:23 am at 1:23 am in reply to: Who is paying the big bucks for Levi A's high priced attorney, Jennifer McCann? #789813yaakov doeParticipantI very much doubt that his family or any middle class family could afford the attorny’s fees associated with a case like this. I expect that the cost to run in the hundreds of thousands. Some lawyers thake these cases pro bono just for the publicity.
yaakov doeParticipantBased on my knowledge of drug use by a sibling of the accused, I would assume that he too used drugs and that may be the cause of his actions. One never knows what effects these illicit substances will have on one’s brain the the future.
He had to be insane at the time of the murder
yaakov doeParticipantDroid: Why? Are you in the military or looking to join?
yaakov doeParticipantAs soon as she feels she needs it.
yaakov doeParticipantThe photo caption said “hasid man”. He may daven by a Lubavitcher, but by the usual definition the accused is not a chosid. I consider it an anti semetic act to put such an un newsworthy story on the front page.
yaakov doeParticipantDo people really text during davening? I’ve never seen it.
yaakov doeParticipantWe have a man that comes on Fridays every few weeks. No one on the block knows why he collects of if he’s really in need, but we all give a few dollars. I assume there’s a need.
yaakov doeParticipantI you ever met me you’d know
yaakov doeParticipantPoppa – Such a marriage would possibly give you a tax break, it would also prevent a real marriage to a maidel since bigamy is illegal.
Imagine after you divorce the guy, how would you explain the divorce to the shadchan?
June 24, 2011 8:07 pm at 8:07 pm in reply to: Flatbush- why are the streets so empty after dark? #780450yaakov doeParticipantIn BP they have to walk since there’s no place to park at night. Flatbush Midwood homes have driveways and easy stret parking.
yaakov doeParticipantBuying quality antique or older furniture is first class. Anything made pre 1960 is real wood, not particle board stapled together. Solid wood furniture should last a lifetime or longer. Stay away from upholstered furniture unless your’re going to reupholster it.
yaakov doeParticipantBasket of radishes: All the days you mention with the exception of valentines day are American secular comercialized holidays. Valentines day, although thoroughly commercialized has Xian origins and celebrates a “saint”.
I see nothing wrong with mothers day, fathers day, thanksgiving or even grandparents day, but the saints day is something else.
June 16, 2011 3:59 pm at 3:59 pm in reply to: Yet another tznius issue (but probably not a crisis) #778257yaakov doeParticipantHaifagirl: Where on the uniform do you suggest that they have the school same? On the back of the shirt or on back of the skirt? If you’re concerned about tznius speak to all those Brooklyn women with the shaitels and the short tight skirts, and stop worrying about school girls.
yaakov doeParticipantWe have 10 window units
June 14, 2011 11:42 am at 11:42 am in reply to: Unbelievable Video: Thief Axes Tree To Steal Bike In Kensington #777363yaakov doeParticipantI assumed that those we saw were the thief’s friends and that he shopped and hid the ax when strangers walked by. Note: this was filmed 2 blocks from Yeshiva Torah V’das.
yaakov doeParticipantVery high, but who cares? The high IQ members of MENSA that I’ve met are all nuts, but they are proud of their IQs
yaakov doeParticipantThis problem does not exist in Villiamburg, Munroe or New Square since women there don’t drive. If we extend this ban to Flatbush and Boro Park we could solve the skirt problem, the traffic problem and the parking problem.
yaakov doeParticipantMaybe we ordered too many, but we must have taken home over 150 benchers left at our last chassanah. My conern is always that they waiters throw them out when clearing the tables.
yaakov doeParticipantCan anyone elighten me as to what Yeshiva, Bais mrdresh or shul this supposed Shavous drinking occurs?
yaakov doeParticipantWe use the Shabbos clocks to turn the units on a few times daily on Shabbos. The built ins don’t allow more than one cycle.
yaakov doeParticipantDoes anyone know which units in the 7000 9000 range have an auto restart after power interuption so they will work with Shabbos clock?
yaakov doeParticipantVery poor judgement although many drive after a drink or 2. She should not see him again
yaakov doeParticipantAny of the frum appliance stores, Drimmer, the Buzz etc can advise you. We have recent GE units that work with our Shabbos clocks and cheap Dawoos that don’t

May 22, 2011 3:10 am at 3:10 am in reply to: Why don't jews have dogs? It is clear in the gemara and shulchan aruch that #770360yaakov doeParticipantTonigh, Motzei Shabbos I saw a man dressed yeshivish walking a dog. First time I’ve ever seen a man with a black hat with a dog.
yaakov doeParticipantLet them just give away all of their possessions today to those who don’t beleive them. Since they are so certain the end is tomorrow – what do they need?
May 20, 2011 2:59 pm at 2:59 pm in reply to: Anyone see these rediculous "Doomsday" Ads in Subway? #770010yaakov doeParticipantToday’s NY Times has an article about some of these people and another about a man who made similiar predictions years ago. I assume that those behind the May 21st end of the world will makes the rounds of the talk shows beginning May 22.
Look, they’re done no harm and contributed to the economy with the ads.
yaakov doeParticipantFrom what I’ve seen these denim long skirts are almost exclusivly Jewish attire. I haven’t seen obviously non Jewish women wearing them. A lot of respectable middle aged and older frum women wear them in Brooklyn.
Now those tight flashy clothes that I see in Boro Park, that’s where the problem is.
