A good sense of humor and personality helps a lot

in reply to: Baby Boy Bigger Brocho than Girl #769367

    canine-

First of all, Pidyon Haben is not necessarily a simcha- just a technical aspect that has to get taken care of. (buying your son back from the kohen) Of course its a simcha once you’ve redeemed him…

To answer your question, I think theres a gemara that says something about being blessed if you have sons and cursed if you have daughters because if you have daughters you have to pay for the dowry and wedding.

    in reply to: HATE #745279

    ok so scratch that.

but you talk the same way

    in reply to: HATE #745277

well I guess you can be flattered- my brothers a nice guy (at least when he was young he was nice)

How do you know that you’re not?

    in reply to: HATE #745274

    popa- are you my brother?

    you sound exactly like him

in reply to: family purim ideas #746246

I know of a family that they all dressed up as cheerleaders.

Weird but you asked for original ideas….

    in reply to: HATE #745270

Hate is a very strong word.

I hate beets. I hate terrorists. I hate changing linen.

    Choose your words carefully

in reply to: Getting Up In The Morning #745895

I agree with Popa. (for once)

or you can just buy the alarm clock with the flying disk. Its starts ringing and sets off this disk that flies around the room. It doesnt stop ringing until you find that disk (wherever it landed) and put it back on the clock

Thats bound to get you out of bed

in reply to: What were they giving out at Zisalek on 13th Avenue today? #744634

Zisaleck in Geulah and in the Old City are both delicious! The oreo and snickers flavors are the best

I noticed a (badly misspelled) sign in (broken) English that they will be opening in Brooklyn…so I guess thats what happened

in reply to: respecting yeshiva bachurim #737219

    Kavod Hatorah-

Are you really of the opinion that kollel wives should be the ones to take out the garbage?

My husband would never ever let that

And I’m the one with more muscles….

in reply to: My New Subtitle #993177

I’ll take one too : ) Thanks mod

in reply to: Walk the girl to the door #736318

I hear what the guys are saying that there is no one way to go about this and every girl has a different opinion…so why dont we try this-

Men- try to feel it out. If the girl seems the “flirty” type who enjoyed when you opened all doors for her and took her coat etc…then by all means walk her all the way to the door.

If she is the yeshivish type who gets bashful when you look at her and open the door for her…then stay in the car.

Women- Forgive the guy for whichever one he chose and keep in mind that he cant please everyone if everyone likes something else.

in reply to: respecting yeshiva bachurim #737199

    Kavod Hatorah-

I agree that yeshiva bochurim should be respected, although I dont see who doesnt respect them.

But I think its ridiculous for you to say that Kollel guys are supposed to be like kings and not take out the garbage. Ask any kollel yungerman what he thinks of this and I guaruntee that he’ll say that he will never let his wife so much as even touch the garbage. And thats exactly how it should be whether he’s a Rav or a working man or in kollel

in reply to: Tefilos I learned In New York #726538

I used to wait for the B11…it was torture. you wait 45 minutes to get on a jammed bus where your nose is stuck in some guys armpit only to find out that there are two buses behind yours…

Or you wait 45 minutes and dont get on the jammed bus (because last time another 2 pulled up right after…) and then you wait another 45 minutes for the next bus….

in reply to: Would you marry a smoker? #726022

World Saver- Thats not true- I know of more than one instance where a girl said she will never marry a boy who smoked and did get married…to a boy who never smoked.

in reply to: Homemade food by a Kiddush? #725466

If you trust the person who is making the kiddush, isnt it enough that they trust whoevers food they put out?

Doesnt that make you trust their kashrus indirectly?

in reply to: Would you marry a smoker? #726019

    Popa-

Why are you constantly talking about how girls better be “smoking” pretty and a size 2?

    It doesnt sound nice….

in reply to: Girls Compromising in Shidduchim #725930

    Cedarhurst-

….Or the guys will have to quit smoking. And many do before they start dating

in reply to: Girls Compromising in Shidduchim #725923

    Me thinks you got…

No one wants to marry an overweight girl either. The same way no one wants to marry smokers

in reply to: Double dating #725526

    bjjkid-

Yes you will see that. You can see how he reacts in different situations (ex if he is the type that will get all bent out of shape from losing…)

Its also a good idea to make sure that you can have a good time together…since you will be spending your life with him (unless of course you dont want to have fun for the rest of your life)

And about double dating… There are many more resons not to do it than there are to do it

in reply to: Would you marry a smoker? #726000

    Sacrilege-

I found one! He never even touched a cig

But my opinion when I was dating was- if he’s a real smoker, then Id say no But its ok if he once tried it just to see what its like

    Derech Hamelech-

I wasnt “describing a shirt as juicy”

I was talking about the company juicy that has their name spalshed across their clothing and people wear the word juicy accross their chest

I said that maybe the OP thinks that the term edible is being used in sort of the same context…

carlos and gabys is also opened very late

in reply to: magazine ad about sheitels #724764

I thiink the OP is saying that the term edible sort of sounds bad the way that Juicy printed accross your shirt sounds bad.

(Im not sure i agree with that. I think juicy sounds much worse)

    Am I correct?

in reply to: Dating Someone Your Friend Went Out With #724860

in reply to: BNOS CHAVA INTERVIEW!!!!!! #744278

I stayed here when I was in Tzfat for shabbos:

    http://www.beityosef.co.il/therose.html

    It was gorgeous….and not expensive

But there are hotels in the old city of tzfat- just theyre rundown and ugly. The most common one is the Ron Hotel- and they also have a good hechsher

“oomis, considering you are mo, your perspective is quite different than the rest of us

That is a disgusting thing to say. You should apologize to oomis.

opening a car door is not chukas hagoyim.

    Would everyone stop this nonsense?

And why is anyone bothering to reply to BJJkid? Ill eat my shaitel if thats not a second username for so right or trying my best…

I know plenty of briskers (my own relatives) who opened the car for their date. Its mentchlich.

in reply to: Do you have a TV at home #722542

Trying my best- you are not talking so nice. Dont look down on people. Its not a good trait.

As far as a TV and internet being the same, all of you are right that you can see the same things. The difference is that a TV is more of a statement that you want to watch something entertainment. So someone who has a TV MAY have a different view on life than someone who doesnt, even if that person has internet.

    in reply to: Facebook? #719180

even alot of goyim are realizing that Facebook is doing them more harm than good

in reply to: Do you have a TV at home #722439

    Homeowner-

The OP is not really demanding information. Just asking so that He/She can better understand what type of person they are talking to.

Not that I think it’s such a nice thing to ask…

And no I don’t have one and never did have one.

in reply to: Leftover chulent? #915898

When I was a kid I hated leftover cholent. Now I happily serve it for supper on Monday nights and my husband loves it. I’m still not such a big fan. But I am a fan of getting a night off from making supper so it’s worth it. ; )

    Wolfish Musings-

You always remind me of my father-in-law. I know you’re not…but I feel like you would know him.

in reply to: Opening the Car Door for Your Date #721088

    So right,

The guy is the one who opens the car door because he is the one taking the girl out. If the girl was taking the guy out on a date than you could say that she should open the door

It’s normal for the one who is “hosting” to take care of all aspects that their hosting includes.

And as many posters wrote, it doesn’t have to be done in an untznius fashion. Most guys open it and then walk to their side of the car and let the girl close her own door.

Do you have a problem that it’s the guy who takes the girl out and not vice versa? Is that also stemming from the goyim? Is it too romantic?

in reply to: Gift Ideas for Men #1000666

I was never able to understand why frum girls would fantacize about dating a goyish celebrity. In high school its one thing… but cmon, you girls sound like youre on the shidduch market. Is that really what you want?

I know I know…its all a joke…but theres a bit of truth to every joke and I dont think that having this picture of this idol gorgeous rich guy in your mind will help you at all while your dating…

    in reply to: Mother-In-Law #720207

notedaskan- theres probably no reason – its usually meant as a joke

    in reply to: Mother-In-Law #720191

I agree with best ima and I got along very well with my mother in law…untill recently when I found out that she did something really unforgivable. And I dont know if I ever can forgive her for the rest of my life.

in reply to: Where are you posting from? #718624

    From home, while I work

in reply to: failing the driving test #943971

yeah I failed my first one because I got an anti semite lady who didnt even give me a chance.

story is that I took my road test in the car that I practiced most in. Which was my fathers very very smooth fancy car. when u tap lightly on the gas it moves pretty fast. Of course when u tap lightly on the break it stops the car very smoothly. So we got to a stop sign and of course I came to a complete stop. I then inched forward to be able to see if any cars were coming and she thought I was going straight ahead without checking and failed me.

in reply to: Changing The Tone On Looks In Dating #718855

    Popa-

“I still disagree. I think she should dress as nicely as she would dress if going out with her husband.”

I agree with that. I meant she maybe should not dress like she would if she was staying inside with her husband…

dont worry- once your married your wife will make you feel plenty attracted…
