A great Bachur was redt to my oldest. We met him and he made a very good impression, and he came up fro a sit in with my daughter.
As he came up the stairs i noticed that he had a hunchback. When he left we asked my daughter for her impression, which was very favorable. But she saw what I and her mother saw. We called the Shadchan who was shocked. “I know him very well. “I know him very well & have no idea what you are talking about.” So he thought some lame excuse for our rejection. So happened I bumped into the young man the next day and his back was as straight as a broomstick. We could not turn the clock back, A few days later Shadchan calls back “I have another great Bachur, I’ll be open with you I don’t want any surprises. Try to see him under cover he has a slight blemish on his face”. So Motzei Shabbos I went to the bachur’s Rebbe’s Tish, managed to track him down and examined him from all angles & saw nothing. We met him my daughter met him an unheard of 4 times and Mazel Tov. A year after their Chasuna he tells his wife that he was born with a cleft lip which required surgery.

BP ZaidehMemberRabbi Wolfe of Zbarazh was a Chasidic master known for his eagerness to defend the poor and the victimized.
One day, he heard unpleasant sounds coming from the kitchen. Putting aside the book he was studying, he went to find out what was happening there. His wife was having a disagreement with the maid. “She broke an expensive dish,” the annoyed Rebbetzin explained to him.
“It was an accident,” cried the maid.
“No, she did it on purpose, to annoy me, and I’m going to deduct it from her wages,” countered the Rebbetzin.
“Then I shall go to the rabbinic court,” said the maid.
“Go ahead, and I’ll come too!” said the Rebbetzin.
“And me too,” said her husband.
“You? Why are you coming? I don’t need you there.I can present my case myself”
“She does,” said Rabbi Wolfe, “you are the wife of a Rebbe; she is only a poor maid. She needs me to defend her.”

Halacha – printing the shem havayah
Submitted by anonymous Answered by Rav Peretz Moncharsh
Question: In your recent article on “kiruv failures” you printed a posuk and spelled out the shem havayah. Is it allowed to spell out the tetragramaton name of Hashem if it’s not in a sefer? And is it allowed for us to erase the name when we close the page? I posted this question on your contact form but have not received a response.
Answer: It is permitted ??????? to write Hashem’s name for Divrei Torah under circumstances where it is not likely to be disgraced. It is a machlokes whether the page may be erased, and in my opinion it is generally accepted to be permitted because one is not erasing physical words, just interrupting the flow of electrons and preventing the words from being formed in the future. However, since some Poskim are machmir regarding erasing Hashem’s name on a computer screen and it is easily avoidable by using a kinuyi, it would be preferable to be machmir in the future. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Why didn’t you bring the Eitzah of the Chayeh Adam Klal 43:9 (quoted in Biur Hahalcha) to be Mekaven at Hamotzee for these mezonos deserts?
Horav Peretz Moncharsh’s Answer:
A good point. However the logic of the Chaye Adam is that explicit intention on the donut is equivalent to saying hamotzi directly on the donut. This works because if one said hamotzi on something that is mezonos he is yotzei b’dieved. I prefer to suggest a solution that works l’chatchila when available.
I am impressed

Below is a follow up question to Moncharch on Revach.net My question is, does this only apply to what is known as a jelly donut in the USA or to any donut in the USA and this Shaila is not just a jelly donut shaila? Thanks!
Answer:
The same issue applies to any fried donut and is not exclusive to the jelly filled ones. The primary issue is the proper beracha on fried or boiled dough products.
Actually Rav Bentzion Abba Shaul proposed that jelly donuts should be less problematic because they are filled and might qualify as pas haba’ah b’kisnin, which is mezonos up until a certain quantity. Even though the donuts are only filled after the frying process, but they are intended to be filled from the beginning. He does not pasken this way l’maaseh, but proposes it as in interesting idea.

BP ZaidehMemberHow Do We Know Turkey Is Kosher? – Was Columbus The First Jew in America?
The Shulchan Aruch (YD 82:3) gives simanim of a kosher bird, however the Rema argues and says that without a mesora we cannot eat any birds even if it has simanim. The question that many poskim discuss is how can we eat Turkey, which is an American bird that was transported back to Europe after the discovery of America, and cannot possibly have any mesora.
The Darkei Teshuva (YD 82:26) considers a number of explanations from various poskim. Regarding the fact that there was a mesora in India for Turkey, he says that the Rashba holds that one country cannot rely on another country’s mesora. Another explanation that he brings from the Meishiv Davar is that the Rema banned any bird without a mesora only if it is newly discovered. Since Turkey had been eaten for many years before the question came up, we cannot question our predecessors logic in permitting it, even if they did not have a mesora, and we cannot assur it and spread a bad name on them.
He also brings the Arugas HaBosem that says that the Rema only forbid birds whose simanim are not 100% guaranteed, but since we have watched Turkeys now for hundred of years and they without a doubt possess all the simanim without exception, we can eat it without a mesora.
The Sichas Chulin in an admittedly wild theory says that during the time of the exile of the Aseres HaShevatim, some of them ended up in America. They had a Mesora on Turkey and passed it on to the exiles of the Spanish inquisition, who passed it back to Europe.
Important Note: We try to convey the Tshuva to the best of our ability. We admit that our understanding may not be accurate. Please also understand that this Tshuva may not be the final word on this topic. One should consult a Rav before drawing any conclusions. http://revach.net/article.php?id=1398
