People in Brooklyn do not live in a bubble. Except for certain Chassidish groups like New Square…most religious Jew do not live in a bubble. I do think that the concept of am hanivchar has been so badly distorted to the point that today many people just feel that being Jewish means I can do what I want and I’m above the law.

“because we are so closed off inside this bubble we become oblivious to the feelings of those who are not in our community.”

I think there is a general lack of respect and middos even within our communities. It has nothing to do with bubbles.

    DaMoshe

Once upon a time there was a clear distinction a yid was a yid a goy was a goy and that distinction kept people in line. There used to be a concept of realJewish pride and a recognition that ‘ i’m a yid I’m different I don’t do this stuff. America is a melting pot and we became very assimilated I mean even the frum Jews we are so goyish that our grandparents who lived in Europe before the war would not be able to tell us apart from goyim. I’m being harsh but to a certain extent that is true of many frum Jews today. So yes you are correct the modern day Jew is often no different and can be compared to the non Jewish population. Yes once there was a clear distinction and we knew a Jew would never do ABC today that is all out the window and we are only marginally better than them.

I like ketchup but I’m not crazy over it. For me it goes with fries, fried/baked breaded fish and maybe a few other things. I agree that they can make it taste a lot better than it does. Its too fake. I prefer a good marinara sauce or salsa any day of the week.

I’m more concerned about the ad telling people to invest their money and get back 4%(? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) a month. That comes out to over 24% a year!!!!! That has to be a ponzi scheme. In today’s economy (where the bank gives less than 1% A YEAR!) nobody can guarantee you 4% a month!

A messed up school is one that cares more about their image than what Hashem wants for these little precious neshamos. A messed up school is a school where if there’s a problem either a kid is being bullied or there’s an issue with the Rebbe or Morah and a parent calls up the school doesn’t handle the problem but just tells the parent they will to get them off their back.

I am not so sure this is anti Semitic in intent. Would we be “up in arms” if they wrote this about an Asian, African American, Hispanic or some random caucasian?

I think its a combo of inches and how quick it accumulates. Sy about 10 or more inches and quick accumulation to teh point that theres a few inches on the streets. If the streets are clear or almost clear its not a blizzard in Brooklyn.

What if the kid already got sick and is still coughing and yet runs out without a coat? I don’t think the kid doesn’t wear the coat to get back at the parents but rather because the kid is from those invincible teens that think they dont need a coat?

What if you disapprove of how they spend their unproductive day and you don’t want to hear how the kid is busy with this low life and that lowlife and speaking to this member of the opposite gender and that member of the opposite gender and got into a fight with this one and that one….?

I do want to add that a “bad” kid 20 years ago or even 10 is no comparison to today. If you have a bad kid in a high school or even 7th 8th grade today often means the kid has unfiltered internet devices with who knows what on them and he shows it to other boys. You want to tell me that you cant throw out such a boy? He is killing other kids mamish killing because we know what that shmutz does. It wrecks lives. So what should we do exactly? It would be great if we could put this boy in isolation and try to work with him but in a yeshivah that is not possible. Such a boy can’t be allowed to stay.
