I had a sibling who was doing those things you mentioned. It really pained my parents. I know my mother cried many times due to to her pain and anguish over that child. No, I think all frum parents who themselves care about yiddishkiet are very deeply pained by their children not going in the Torah way. I would assume that if you do these things and don’t come from a “modern” family then this causes your parents lots of pain and can really affect Shalom Bayis. That’s not the main reason you should stop but it should be a motivator to get back on track. Ifa child truly took to heart how much hakaras hatov they owe their parents for EVERYTHING that the parents gave and continue to give them from the second they were born then we would have a lot less kids straying from the path. (Not taking into account kids who were abused and molested or what not, just regular kids giving in to their curiosity and yetzer hora to taste the forbidden fruit.)

Its become a huge problem and its a terrible chillul Hashem. Personally I think it is the Ravs Achrayis to do something about the talking and if he does nothing its on his head. I know certain shuls where talking is at a minimum and it is thanks to the Ravs of those shuls who make it a point that talking will not be tolerated. Its sad that some people have no feeling for kedushas beis haknesses u beis hamedrash.

The Gemara in Nedarim (58a) tells us that in order for the Shechina to rest on someone, he must have four attributes; he must be wise, rich, strong, and modest. The Kli Yakar says that grouping of the encampment of Bnei Yisroel into four Degalim was to highlight these four attributes of Klal Yisroel. so that the Shechina would rest on us.

All four Degalim surrounded the Mishkan because these attributes were used only to serve Hashem and bring the Shechina down to Klal Yisroel..

The Gemara is Torah shebaal peh, it is all based on the Chumas which is Torah Shebiksav if you realize every Gemara quotes pesukim and makes various drashos from those pesukim. It is important to have a grasp of chumash to better understand gemara and to know the general concepts the the gemara is discussing. Torah shebichsav is like an outline and the gemara fills in the blanks with all the details.

“That’s superficial and silly advice, especially as MBD, Avraham Fried, and Shwekey also borrow from Goyish music all the time.”

False statement. I challenge you to provide when was the last time that either Fried or MBD took a song from the non Jews they maybe did it a few times in their careers. Additionally even though they took some oldies, groups like Akapella and Maccabeats take from current music which you cant compare to the music from the 70s or earlier in wholesomeness.

My head is also reeling about the names on those papers, but I am not ready to chas veshalom say such a thing about such big people. I think some of them were mislead and others well…I really don’t understand what they were thinking.

What I would like to know is are these papers signed by these Rabbonim signed because the Rabbonim truly want to write them and agree with what is written therein and hold that way or was there some sort of pressure by some powerful askanim and machers behind the scenes that kind of tied the Rabbonims hands and basically forced them to sign. Both are bad, but we need to find out for a fact if the Rabbonim are being manipulated or not and if they are, who is doing the manipulating and put them out of business if thats whats going on.

I just want to add that Rav David Cohen was consulted in this situation by the father in 2010 he advised him “Not only do I permit it, it is an obligation to go to the police.”

I would tell you that you should listen to what is labeled as chassidish music like MBD Avraham Fried, Shwekey…Do not listen to the groups that take non Jewish songs like AkaPella or maccabeats or similar groups as they will just pull you right back to the goyish music.

    1) Shavuos: How Could the Bnei Yisroel Oversleep The Day of Matan Torah?

Our Minhag is to stay up all Shavuos night in order to make sure we don’t oversleep on the morning of Kabalas HaTorah. Chazal tell us that the morning of Matan Torah the Bnei Yisroel were sleeping and Moshe Rabbeinu had to wake them up and bring them to Kabalas HaTorah. How could this be? Weren’t they up preparing all night for this unprecedented historic event?

Reb Chaim Yaakov Safran, the Komarna Rebbe, in the Hakdama to the Chumash Heichal HaBracha, answers as follows. The Rambam says that there are many levels of Nevuah(prophesy). Typically, it is an out of body experience where the Navi’s neshama reaches such a high level that it leaves his body, which remains in a trance, while the neshama receives the nevuah. The Rambam calls this “sheina”, sleep. In order to prepare to hear Hashem’s words at Har Sinai the Bnei Yisroel brought themselves to this state of “sheina”. On the other hand, Moshe Rabbeinu who had purified his soul and body to a state of perfection, was the only Navi in history that was able to receive nevuah in a perfectly conscious state. This is called “Aspaklariya HaMeira”.

This explains the midrash. Bnei Yisroel went to “sleep” or “sheina” to enable themselves to hear Hashem’s words. Until, that is, Moshe Rabbeinu woke them up. He brought them up to his level of Aspaklariya HaMeira in order for the Torah to be given to humans and not angels. At Har Sinai we heard, for the only time in history, Hashem speak while we were fully conscious.

We all have weaknesses and everyone should have a filter because theres nobody who doesnt have a strong yetzer hora to look where they shouldnt. The yetzer hora doesnt say “oh he has a strong support system blah blah blah new age psychology blah blah he is impervious to me I wont get him.” The yetzer hora in these areas is very strong, even more so than in other areas as the Rambam says in hilchos Teshuva, a person thinks whats the big deal all I did was look its not like I “DID” anything? So a person is all the more susceptible to aveiros of the eyes.

I dont believe there is anyone who doesnt have a filter that hasnt purposely looked at things they shouldnt have at least once if not many times and certainly and it goes without saying inadvertently.

“In other words, an oisher can buy a seat in Olam Haboah (by giving tzedakah) whereas an oni cannot. “

You have a chiyyuv to give maaser. If you give maaser you did a mitzvah Im not sure what all this talk about buying seats in olam haba is all about. If you do a mitzvah (properly) you get schar if you do an aveirah you get an oinesh. You cant bribe Hashem by giving Tzedaka. If Hashem did not make you an ashir its because its not your tafkid to have that nesayon and your neshama doesn’t need that specific Tikkun. However every Yid has Taryag mitzvos that he is obligated to do.

I’m not sure what the answer is but what I can tell you is that I once asked a shaila regarding something similar but different. If I have $100 is it better to give it all to one poor person because then you are helping him significantly or split it up and give $5 here and $10 there…even though they are less significant donations? I was advised to split it up because with if you give $100 to one poor person you get one mitzvah and if you give $1 to $100 poor people you get 100 mitzvos. Its possible that the $100 to one person will be big but not as big as racking up lots of mitzvos of Tzedakah. So if you are not wealthy and want to make the most of your Tzeddaka money spread it around as much as you can.

Address is 4310 16th avenue. It is a chassidish shul that has a mix some bend downs daven there. Very nice crowd many Torah Vodaas alumni there.

By the fact that the Kohanim wore pants it would seem that pants are a more “choshuv” begged than a robe and possibly more Tzanua.
