I hope the police were contacted. If this abuser is still on the lose you can be guaranteed he will destroy other kids.

As for your child, he needs a good therapist trained in these matters. Try here (Mods please allow)

Here is a list but its certainly not everyone and if I skip anyone its not on purpose. Make sure you take along a translator who speaks Hebrew and Yiddish as well as English of course to translate for you unless you speak Hebrew well in which case you will possibly only need a Yiddish translator.

“Any group that holds a event against the wishes of the Gedolim”

That part isnt true as there were other Gedolim who were pro like Rav Auerbach and Rav Dovid Soloveitchik. Additionally that group considers their own leadership as the authority and do their own thing and dont care what Litvish/Yeshivish Rabbonim have to say on the matter.

I want to add that any madreigah of ruchniyus and appreciation for Shabbos will not come at once. I think start with the basic and non spiritual idea that it is a day of rest. An opportunity to relax and take a break from the rushing and hustle and bustle of the weekday. Eventually work your way up into appreciating that the rest is a spiritual rest. We stop doing creative work so that we can focus on Spirituality and on the fact that Hashem created the world.

Well it makes sense that in a mixed environment you would get male attention for dressing a certain way so its hard to dress differently and risk losing that. Clearly a self esteem issue. Ill leave it to the girls to help you with the self esteem. However I am never surprised when I hear that people in coed colleges run into problems. In fact even in non coed college there are bad influences so it goes without saying that in such an environment your Yiddishkiet will be under attack. I would tell you that you should find a mentor like a teacher/Rebbitzen someone who you can be in touch with on a regular basis. I would also say that if you don’t regularly read some kind of Torah content (at least once a week when your mind is clear read a sefer in Hebrew or English for a significant amount of time and make an effort to inculcate it in your life) you will find yourself slipping in other areas as well very soon.

I assume he means that a tattoo would only be permitted should there be some medical benefit to it I dont know it that currently exists but he is speaking about in general should this ever be the case it would be permitted according to him.

I haven’t been a teen for many years and I have never been a girl so I cant say my own experience will be relatable for girls. Honestly I don’t know how a girl should enjoy Shabbos.

What I enjoy is the Davening, Shabbos food, zemiros and divrei Torah, learning on Shabbos without any interruptions, the peacefulness of no phones and computers, the knowledge that that this is a special day that we get to spend with Hashem and bask in His glory and try to tune in to that. I would say that Shabbos is an acquired taste and one must tune into the Shabbos frequency to be able to enjoy it. If you live a shallow life all week Shabbos will not speak your language. You will be missing your phone the whole day. A person has to work to become a Shabbos Jew. Nobody likes to hear it but to enjoy any part of Yiddishkiet takes work, both working on the spiritual and not being such a physical person. Learning takes work. Mitzvos takes work. Davening takes work. The more physical a person is the harder it will be to taste spirituality. I hope that I am being helpful to you.

“But practically, that doesn’t help us fulfill this di’oreisah.”

Actually it does. The chiyuv is to love others like you love yourself but if you don’t have a healthy love for yourself you can’t truly love another person.

Rav Noach Weinberg zatzal was known to say “If you don’t love yourself, I sure don’t want you loving me!”

Im glad to know we have chacham akuperma who is smarter than the Ramban. He probably didnt think of your brilliant hearah. The Shach in Yoreh deah siman 81 seif 7 ois 26 says eating non Kosher foods causes “teva rah” a bad nature. Too bad you couldn’t tell the Shach he was wrong. It seems that all non Kosher animals including non kosher fish have something in them that cause a teva raah to humans.

“I am more bothered by decency issues as opposed to “christian themes”.

Christian themes should bother you very much. If you read kefira it becomes a part of your thought process whether you want it to or not so be careful what you read. Additionally Im pretty sure its assur to read such things.

“Im looking for young adult books, and I found most Jewish books to expensive and mostly poorly written.”

Get a library card. Theres also a Jewish library in Brooklyn, and Im sure Lakewood has one as well. If you don’t live in any of those places, most Jewish books are in the library system and you can request books and they will send them to your local library.

Poorly written is no excuse to read things that are assur. Try to find the Jewish books that are well written.

Part of the reason, (although certainly not the only reason) we dont eat animals that kill is because what you eat becomes a part of you and the nature and traits of the animal you eat has an effect on you. The Ramban talks about this.

Yes they each have their own “nature” that Hashem created them with. For that reason we may only eat docile beheimos like cows and sheep and similar Kosher animals because they are herbivores (eat veggies and dont kill other animals) so that we will only have the effect of peaceful animals inside us. If we were to eat the other animals their life force and nature would taint our souls.

Parshas Korach: Vilna Gaon – A Good Machlokes Doesn’t Disappears

The Mishna in Pirkei Avos (5:17) says that a machlokes like Hillel and Shammai that is L’Shem Shamayim is Sofo Lihiskayem and will last, while a machlokes that is not L’Shem Shamayim like Korach, Ein Sofo Lihiskayem, will not last. Shouldn’t a machlokes L’Shem Shamayim eventually resolve itself, while one based on ulterior motives should carry on indefinitely?

The Vilna Gaon explains that a machlokes rooted in hidden agendas and ulterior motives will change like a chameleon. As the argument carries on, it will grow and spread and no one will remember how or why it started. Whatever ignited it was not substantial, but only opportunistic and insignificant. Other times, a machlokes becomes personal and takes on a life of its own and people forget why they started fighting in the first place, so the original machlokes is not Miskayem.

However, if a machlokes is L’Shem Shamayim, there is nothing hidden and nothing personal. The only point of contention is and will always remain the disputed issue and will continue to be fought with clarity and integrity.

Parshas Korach: Rav Elyashiv – Korach Connects With The Masses

The Medrash tells us that there were three Nevi’im in the time leading up to the Churban HaBayis, Yirmiya who spoke in the marketplace, Tzefania who spoke in Shuls, and Chulda who spoke to the women.

Why did they need three Nevi’im? Rav Elyashiv explains that if they would have invited everyone to come hear the nevuah they’d be standing there without an audience. The Nevi’im needed to go out to the people and each one had their own target venue.

“Yet, on the other hand,” points out Rav Elyashiv, “when Korach spoke, ‘Yayakhel Aleihem Korach Es Kol HaEidah; Korach snapped his fingers and they all came running: men women, and children.”

The sad testament here is that when it comes to hearing the Dvar Hashem no one will come. The message needs to be taken to the people, each one with their own twist. Yet, when it comes to bashing Torah, one size fits all, and the crowds you can amass without going anywhere are standing room only.

Parshas Korach: Rav Chaim Shmuelevitz – The Low Threshold Of Genius

Oin ben Peles was part of Korach’s group. The gemara Sanhedrin (109b) says that Oin was saved, thanks to his wife’s “Chochma”. What was her great “Chochma” that the gemara refers too? That she told her husband that it makes no difference to him who leads the people, so why get involved? Does that take such a big genius?

Rav Chaim Shmuelevitz answers that during a Machlokes when people are all emotionally entangled, no one speaks with a great deal of intelligence. Merely speaking logically and rationally during these times qualifies your words as Chochma. (Derech Sicha)

Parshas Korach: Chasam Sofer – Dasan or Aviram’s Debt of Gratitude To Moshe

“Vlo Harai’osi Es Achad Mayhem”, neither have I wronged one of them (Korach 16:15). The words Es Achad Mayhem, “one of them” seems extra. He could have simply said , “Vlo Hariosi Lahem” – “I did not wrong them”?

The Chasam Sofer answers, when Moshe visited his brothers in the fields of Mitzrayim, he noticed 2 Jews, Dasan and Aviram , fighting amongst themselves. When one lifted a hand against the other, he exclaimed, “Rasha, why do you strike your brother?” Moshe broke up the fight this sparing the other a beating.

When Korach came to argue with Moshe, he was joined by the infamous rebels, Dasan and Aviram. Moshe was shocked to see them and said in amazement, “the one I stopped from beating up his friend may have reason to be angry with me , but “Vlo Hariosi Es Achad Mayhem” – to one of them I did no evil – in fact I rescued him – why does he join my enemies?
