Dont date yourself.
WIYMemberSyag Lchochma
Grateful for what specifically?
WIYMembertwisted
Wow.
WIYMemberAnd instead you spent the day on the internet. Nice.
WIYMemberDY
You think she can take $300 to have reviews removed and then not remove them? How is that different from any agreement where you are paid to do something and then not do it? If she accepts the money she has to do what she said she would.
WIYMemberWhat assumptions?! Nobody in their right mind would marry anyone knowing they have this problem! These people always hide this problem as much as possible even from their spouse. They come across as the nicest most stable people in most cases…They first find out years later and the spouse and kids are now stuck with such a husband and father. You want to now demonize the wife?

Upon what basis do you have the right to decide that they deserve more sensitivity than she does? Nebach a good frum woman who is a teacher and role model finds out her husband is ill and does horrendous things. She’s stuck between a rock and a hard place because she has a family and doesn’t want to break up her family and risk damaging her kids. She likely also loves her husband and has a very good home together with him. Any wife who finds out their husband has such a problem deserves tons of rachmanus. I’m quite surprised that that isn’t apparent to you as a woman.

I think that al pi Halacha it’s like you coerced it out of him. He wants at the minimum to be paid for the job he did. He isn’t refunding out of the goodness of his heart but rather he has no choice he wants that bad review removed because you killed his business.
WIYMemberIt wasn’t overly strict back in the day but they had a curfew that you had to be back by the Yeshiva by 12. They may have cracked down since then but there’s a dorm counselor who lives on premises in mercazare at least that’s what it used to be) and he keeps an eye on things and tries to get guys to go to sleep at a decent hour.
I think you should try to get in touch with the Yeshiva and speak to them about any other questions. Its a good place and I know people who really turned it around there. The guys who turn around in mercaz are from the most solid grounded bnei Torah around. They have a great reputation in the Mir.

I can only tell you from what I know from when I was in Israel over 6 years ago. A Yeshiva changes and it’s not enough to go on. From what I understand the Yeshivatakes boys from various backgrounds who are intelligent and want to grow but are not really learning yet. I would say almost all boys come from black hat families but there are a few non hat wearers. The learning is on a solid level and there are a few shiurim first and second year I dont know about 3rd. Some shiurim are harder some easier but they work with you. Every shiur has its own shoel umaishiv to ask questions and help the bachurim in their learning or to stam be there for them as a friend. The Yeshivais a warm place very the staff are all top notch, accommodations are tops for Israel nice rooms decent size. The food is pretty good as well. I They Yeshiva used to be compared to a hotel because it was geared towards rich families and the accommodations were on a high level. The tuition isn’t cheap but not everyone who goes there is wealthy and I’m sure they will work with you.
Most guys come out of there significantly better than when they entered. Some guys flip out and become Yeshivish or just really serious bnei Torah who go on to the Mir and end up in kollel after marriage. TypicalMercaz guys stay in Israel1-3 years (most guys actually stay at least 2 years) and then go back to America and enter a yeshiva/college program.
The yeshiva is in Talpiot which is a quiet area of a more upper class retired or close to it non frum Israelis. Nice area away from everything but a 15 minute cab ride gets you to wherever you need to go like geulah or the Mir…

That thread will take heavy modding additionally it gives away private information and the teacher of yours will certainly know who you are if she reads the threa. You got some good answers before it was taken down.
WIYMemberWell you can always call off the exterminator or just get a real ant farm. Why the heck do you watch the rats and why the heck would you want ants in your room? Uch eew gross yuck.
October 30, 2013 1:52 pm at 1:52 pm in reply to: Eating at peoples houses with teenage daughters? #984147WIYMemberVeltz
Teenage boys have no toeles in talking to the opposite gender other than feeding their last. I don’t mean saying pass the salt. I mean having a discussion and Shmoozing.
WIYMemberGoq
What I think you mean to say is that there is an utter lack of yiras shomayim today. That’s why people do whatever they want and don’t care who it effects or if it will effect all the Jews and make a huge chillul Hashem. But I think the cause of the lack of YS is a lack of self esteem. We ddon’t realize our true worth and who we are as the am hanivchar. We don’t realize that we are His children and we don’t have pride in it.
WIYMemberThe goq
Its a symptom of other problems like lack of Emunah and bitachon and greed. Most of the ganavim are not trying to make ends meet they are stealing heavy millions.
WIYMemberDy
Its probably closer to blackmail than extortion but legally it seems that the threat must be initiated by the other party an implied (even if unintended for that purpose) threat may not be enough.
I still think on halachik grounds she can’t take a full refund only a refund of what he overcharged.
WIYMemberTaom
You are very welcome!
WIYMemberDy
Because he is offering a FULL refund due to the nasty review because everyone wants it removed. That’s extortion even if he initiates the offer.
WIYMemberWell on 2nd thought if the dog is trying to harm you or someone else and the only way to stop it is by kicking it then it’s absolutely mutar to kick it.
WIYMemberPix
Not sure what the question is. Halachically you prob can’t take the refund because he deserves to be paid for his work. Additionally this would be extortion which is a form of geneiva.
Also, the guy is bad news. You already did a public service by posting it online. . Why would you take it down? The guy is bad and people should know to stay away. At most you can offer that you will edit it and write that he has agreed to the original price and returned the extra you paid him. You should not remove the review though.

I would only recommend donating a Torah to a shul that desperately needs one otherwise the Torah will sit forever in the Aron Kodesh and never be used (other than maybe on Simchas Torah).
WIYMemberLAB
Totally unfair and uncalled for. Many people affected were far from wealthy. In fact most were not wealthy.
WIYMemberIt’s tzar baalei chaim. Its also assur to kick trolls.
WIYMemberI actually think that our obsession with money and pursuing every tayvah and lack of self restraint automatically causes a lack of Emunah and bitachon so in a way they go together. We have so much wealth and all that so we don’t feel we need Hashem. We don’t realize everything we have comes from Him.

I chose to Google it and I found quite a few articles on studies done that the kids of ss marriages are well adjusted healthy normal adults. I was surprised to find this because logically everything you are saying makes sense so I don’t know what to make of this.
WIYMemberSo one minute, boys become Jewish at 8 days old and girls are born Jewish? Or girls become Jewish at bas mitzvah?
WIYMemberCrisis
I’m not going to address what you said because I don’t think that has that much to do with the OP question. I’m just wondering why you have so much venom towards frum people. What did anyone do to you to make you hate us so much?

How can you compare saving a human to saving an animal?
WIYMemberSam2
I emailed Gateways and was told its not assur. I pushed it further and asked them to pose the question to Rabbi Becher and he said “It is not a specifically christian custom. Also the fact that he is not going down on both knees means he is not imitating kneeling in Church. However, I would not recommend it as it does have an odor of a gentile practice about it.”
What do you say?
WIYMemberPopa
I guess so, but I just can’t imagine it…besides they ate Manna so how was it possible to get fat? From meat maybe?

The way I understand that Gemara, Rabbeinu Hakadosh was censured for 2 reasons:
1. The animal came to him for shelter and he didn’t try to save it.
2. Because he is Rabbeinu Hakadosh and on his level it was some sort of aveira.
If the cow came to us for shelter we would not be punished for saying what Rebbe said simply because its true the animal was created for shechita to feed humans.
So to answer my own question, I think if an animal is in danger (not a situation of shechita) and runs to me for protection I am obligated to intervene. Otherwise, its not my business. Hashem created the briah with a food chain and there are predators and prey. Its not our place to mess around with it. That is how the wild works, stronger eats weaker. So in conclusion I think if the animal doesn’t belong to us or isn’t specifically “asking” us for help we should stay out of it.

“For the reason of doing something productive while still learning”
Not to knock you but learning is productive and you should feel that you are doing something productive when you learn. If you don’t feel that way maybe you aren’t covering enough ground or learning enough of the material that would be most relevant to you.
