Frankly I am almost sure most if not all teens and young children wouldnt have the patience or understanding to read through these threads. Theyd be bored to tears. Any kid that likes to read will read a book and not a forum.

A casual google revealed that there was a brief but rather graphic sex scene as well as some viewage of scantily clad women. Additionally the violence is supposedly really extreme and gory. When you watch enough movies this stuff begins to become “normal” for you and you don’t even pick up on it. It numbs your sensitivities.

Baruch Hashem I quit watching movies, my eyes and mind had a spiritual rehab and now I am so much more aware of how bad movies are as well as how low the general levels of modesty are by the non Jewish public and I know to take precautions of where I look.

If you asked me it seems clear you are being used and taken for granted. There are users out there and one has found you. I think you should seriously discuss your feelings about this with your husband and do what you both agree is the best course of action based on the facts.

Conservative, reform, orthodox…are all man made labels. What matters to Hashem is that you keep His Torah 100% as He commanded including all the laws as explained by the Rabbis in the Talmud. Labels don’t matter to Him.

However keep in mind that as long as a person is not keeping the full Torah (and they can) then they have not accepted Hashems rulership over your life. A servant who tells his/her master “I will pick and choose which of your commands I will listen to is not a servant and the master is not his master. The idea of Judaism is full submissiveness to G-ds will and commands. If one chooses not to serve G-d as He commanded but rather wants to do what they like they are serving themselves. This is tantamount to idolatry.

I agree being frum (Orthodox) is for everyone but not everyone is ready and when they are ready they become frum.

As for listening to shiurim I want to direct you to aw ebsite I recently started using that I found to be exceptionally inspiring.

    http://www.divineinformation.com/

The shiurim are also available on Torahanytime.com his name is Rabbi Yosef (Yossi) Mizrachi. His shiurim are Tachlis, he is very sincere and lives every word he says, he presents things in a very clear and enjoyable way and he has a good sense of humor as well. He is originally Israeli so he has an accent, however his accent is understandable and its really worth listening to his shiurim. He is currently my favorite speaker (I’m always listening to shiurim and I keep finding new Rabbanim I like I have a few favorites).

Please do look into his shiurim. He has a nice amount of recorded shiurim on almost any topic (as well as dating). Listen to a full shiur and let me know what you think.

“another realist Rabbi Avigdor Miller, tzl, said that his Rebbe told him not only that these images are all indelibly impressed into the mind, but they remain within your Neshama in Olam HaBah!

(he didnt say if Tshuvah could remove them or not)”

I hope they can be erased with Teshuvah!

P.s. who was his Rebbi, do you know?

There is a great variety in Jewish music today. Granted most of it is not as professional or as good as non Jewish music but a lot of the draw to eat leaves over time. You need to retrain your ears to what music is and once you get used to Jewish music you will be fine.

You can go to mostlymusic.com and galpazmusic.com and listen to different types of music to find what you like. They have clips from every singer’s cds to listen to. See if maybe Israeli music agrees with you. Its different from American style and many people I know who used to be hooked on non Jewish substituted it with Israeli music like Gad Elbaz, Chaim Yisroel and others.

Theres a lot out there you’ll be surprised.

Halachically, frozen is the same as fresh I asked a Rav. He says the only difference is checked or unchecked. The freezing process doesnt make bugs mutar. The reason why blending helps is because once it is blended its not a complete bug and the issur is on eating a bug as a whole being, not bug mush.

Ok because they are allowed to be sold doesnt mean you can eat them as is. There may be further requirements which you should really look into especially considering how often you say you eat them.

There are women who get involved with their husbands davening schedules and say idiotic things like “look its ____ time dont you have to go daven mincha, or maariv or learn…”

Doesnt this brain surgeon of a wife know that there are 100’s of minyanim and as a bachur he never missed minyan or seder and that wont change now? Dont you think he knows when they daven or when he has to learn? Do these girls think he deposited his brain at the door when he decided to get married and now needs her to remind him of obvious things? Im sure for many men it feels that way!

Next time she takes a cup of water he should say “remember make a brocha” you should make a shehakol….id like to see her reaction!

To be clear Im not talking about a case where the husband got really busy with something and mamash almost forgot to go daven if not for the wife.

Halachically girls and women must daven however women with babies who stay at home to care for them are allowed to say a tefillah ketzarah and some are completely patur if its totally not possible to daven because they are too busy with the children. However girls and women who aren’t busy with kids MUST daven.

I hear you, its doable if the schools deem it necessary and important. The thing is, schools should also teach about the purpose of marriage. there was a thread here recently on the purpose of marriage and most people (including many marrieds) didn’t really know the answer. There is just so much essential education that is being omitted from our schools. It seems like the people with the best ideas are rarely in a position to change things.

    QUESTION TO ALL

Is the report card really the childs? Isn’t it for the parents to see how the kid is doing and then to keep (as nachas or sentimental value)?

Most kids don’t care about the physical report card all that much, that’s why the parents are being punished when it is withheld.

NY is a big place. Some places are nicer and better than others. I live in Brooklyn and like it very much but I think its a bit too crowded there are just too many people here. There’s no denying that as far as Jewish infrastructure NY has anything you can imagine for a Jew who is from any part of the spectrum. Chassid Ger and Litvak can all find their place. Out of town there are far less options and everyone knows everyone. If you aren’t happy OOT its not as simple as just changing shuls and meeting different types of people!

Now as far as bringing up children, I still think NY has the most options as far as Yeshivos and all that and makes it much easier to find the right niche for your kids.

In my mind, the only Maaleh of OOT is that things are more spread out and certain locations have better climate. As far as Yiddishkiet goes, NY is the place to be.

Bringing expert people in on a regular basis costs money and is very complicated schedule-wise because its important for all age groups above a certain age but each grade needs to hear something else, the older ones need to hear different things than the younger ones. So one big assembly x amount of times a year won’t work.

I’m not sure this can be made a reality.

Yes I agree, but then again most of the Rabbeim I had have no clue about parenting and id probably do the opposite of anything they said. One has to be a true mechanech and knowledgeable in parenting to give such adviced which is why for the most part it isn’t taught.

Sof davar gave a good answer. I might add that it could be that some girls don’t know they have a Chiyuv to daven. I think they should be told in a nice way that they have a chiyuv to daven. Also, I’m pretty sure they must daven before zman tefillah is over as well. To me, it looks like girls view Shabbos as a vacation and therefore sleep late and take it easy.

BTW, anyone doing crunches, dont interlock your fingers behind your neck. You will hurt your neck by pulling up on it on the upwards part of the crunch. Better to cup your ears and keep your hands loose by sticking your fingers behind your ears.

Well you can ask your LOR the next time you get the chance to know for the future.

I cant imagine its mutar or else in almost any situation you could lie with your own highly unlikely exaggerated misrepresentation of what the person was asking.

Im not sure, I am inclined to say what you said wasnt truthful because we go by what the normal daas of a person is (basically we go by what was likely intended as the question) and not your purposeful misinterpretation. I would think since he asked, it really wouldnt have been embarrassing to say in a nice way yes, its my seat (but you can sit there I dont mind….) definitely better than not being honest.

If its actually a real toss up between embarrassing someone vs saying a lie ask your LOR whats best to do.

If you are curious about these types of things then you will love the Artscroll Interlinear translated Siddur. It has explanations before each Tefillah and great translations as well as some added explanation of what specific words or concepts are. I can’t compare my Davening before, to after I got this siddur. Consider it a MUST BUY. (They also just put out a new Siddur, that may be a good choice as well but I didn’t look into it so check at Eichlers or wherever you go) you could probably also see samples online at Artscrolls website.

I just looked it up in my siddur, in short, the Shir was said by the Leviim daily during the Tamid shel shachar. We say it as a memorial to the Bais Hamikdosh. Each one represents the importance and significance of that day of the week and is full references to what was created that day of the week. We start off Yom Rishon (sheni…) bshabos to be mekayem the Mitzvah to remember Shabbos always.

Now go buy that Siddur you’ll thank me!!! 🙂

If you will read the article of the link you posted you will see that

    1. He wasn’t president at that time

    2. He didn’t pose

    3. He was vacationing in Hawaii

    So the photo is meaningless.
