I don’t think that people realize what they are doing. They think childrens movies are harmless but they aren’t. Furthermore, the movie stopping doesn’t stop in elementary school, but now once they are in highschool they want to watch pg13 movies. What do you do then? Allow it? There’s nudity on some pg13 movies there’s all kids of shmutz….what do you do? Tell your kids movies are assur? But they watched movies from the cradle until 9th grade. Why is it suddenly assur?

It depends on how many girls. It sounds like one of the existing schools will need to open a new class. That would require enough students (who pay tuition) and finding a qualified teacher(s).

I take it you are one of the younger ones in your family and therefore let everyone older say their piece.

At home I voice my opinion, but in public I usually don’t because not everyone can handle the truth…the opinions I express here I could never express in public with most people.

It bothers me what’s going on out there. The problem is that most people take an attitude of “mind your own business” or “its not my problem” nobody cares nobody tries to do anything and then we wonder why we have

    1. kids going off the derech in droves,

    2. those who aren’t going off the derech are by and large disconnected from authentic Yiddishkiet and are just going through the motions

    3. Frum people committing all kiinds of financial fraud

    4. Frum people on drugs

    5. Frum people involved in the drugs business

    6. Frum molesters (many are Rabbis)

Should I go on? We are a mess because we don’t clean up after ourselves. We don’t try to fix our own problems. We just keep lowering our standards. Eventually we just won’t have any standards anymore.

Its clear from the story that we are talking about young able bodied girls. Although it would have been nice for someone to help they they weren’t exactly in serious need of help (and as the story teller said they were laughing so obviously ok and having fun) so why should anyone be obligated to help?

As far as Chumash and Gemara goes, one can use an artscroll. It takes time to pick up “tietch” skills. Basically there are 2 ways to go about it, either one can use an artscroll and learn it inside with teh english and then review, (review is very very important for a beginner)

it a few times without the tietch. Work with a system. If you are doing chumash you can do a few pesukim a day with Rashi and with gemara a few lines with Rashi.

The bottom line is the person has to be serious about reviewing so that he starts remembering his learning and building his vocabulary.

Another approach thats harder but works a lot better is for one to use a regular Chumash or Gemara (get Oz Vehadar for Gemara or some other nice easy to read helpful Gemara), but get a good English Hebrew or Bible Hebrew dictionary and an Aramaic Hebrew English dictionary and as you go along, look up the words and write the translation with a lead pencil on top of the words. Chazara is important here as well, but the process of looking things up and writing them down helps you remember. After a while you will see that you start remembering more and more words.

Once familiar with the translation of Chumash Rashi it should be easier to move on to Rishonim and Acharonim.

Dont think this will happen overnight. However if you review everything a minimum of 4 times (really, for a beginner you should do it even more but absolute minimum is 4) you will see that you remember it and it will build your confidence. Once you know 20 Blatt Gemara with Rashi cold you should be able to learn most Gemaras on your own and should be fairly comfortable opening up a Rishon or Acharon.

Main thing is dont rush and expect it to happen too quickly, its really up to your level of commitment and and how much time and effort you put into it. Also did I mention do lots of Chazara?

Some people protect the molesters because they know them and are their friends and think that theres no way that their friend could have done these sick things. People would rather think that the kids make stuff up than face reality and realize that their best friend, son or brother could be a molester.

Sometimes, the molester is a “chashuv” person in the community like a Rabbi or a professional….and people find it easier to think that kids make stuff up.

Of course in some cases, the reason people side with the molester is because it can affect their institution financially (like a certain yeshivah) or lead to others getting into trouble if it can be proven that the persons bosses knew of the problem and ignored it….

“You know, some people say that there is no such a thing as Hell in the fiery sense…”

Ill assume you mean that there are various pshatim (Rishonim Achronim) to what Gehinnom means. True not all take it to mean a place of physical fire although many do, but everyone agrees there is a Gehinnom. Regardless, whatever and wherever it is, there is a burning that takes place there and its beyond anything we can imagine on this world and not a place anyone wants to have to experience even for a second.

(Its probably a lot better if Gehinnom was in the fiery sense because that means that we experience it in some physical way, because if its in the spiritual sense, well souls are infinite, so the pain can be infinite…I dont want to thank about that)

“Since it is bike riding season almost all the time here in LA, many people go down to the beach and rent bikes for a ride on the bike path. I have known many yeshivish families that allow their older high school girls to go and rent bikes. It is actually a common activity a girls school (read Bais Yakov) or camp might do, even in the summer.”

“In those days paralysis was extremely prevalent and many people fell victim to it with no relief in sight. I remember how the Chofetz Chaim would relate to this when speaking to us: Where does the disease of paralysis originate?' he would ask rhetorically. Why has this disease spread to almost epidemic proportions during the last few years? If we would examine it we would observe that this is indeed a very strange affliction: A person has a mouth, a palate, lips, a throat, everything, but he cannot utter one word from his mouth! What happened? Paralysis! A person has legs, knees, feet, everything, but to walk? Not even one step. What happened? What does Hakodosh Boruch Hu want from us?

” `Every human being has an account, an allowance of sorts. For example, a person might be allotted a million steps in his lifetime. After he has used up those million steps, there are no more! Finished! And from then on the person can still have feet and all the rest — but to walk? Not one more step. His allowance is depleted. Moreover, this person must know that each and every footstep is written down. Every step is reckoned. Guard your steps. Don’t go to places of wrongdoing. Don’t waste what you were given.

” `A person has a mouth. Hakodosh Boruch Hu gave a person a certain number of words in his lifetime. As soon as he has used up all his words — finished! He can have all the organs of speech but not one word will he be able to pronounce. Keep this in mind and guard your speech! Know that every word is written down; each word is subtracted from your allowance. Don’t waste them!

” `The same goes for the eyes, the hands and all the other organs of the body.’

From an interview with HaRav Kalman Farber a talmid of the Chofetz Chaim.

The Chofetz Chaim teaches that every body part has a certain amount of time that we can use it, including the tongue. This means that the amount of words you use in your life has a cutoff. Do you really want to waste the precious few words you have on lashon hara and nivul peh?

There’s a lot of mini categories in all the 4 categories. You may be technically right that there are 4 general categories but that tells you nothing because there are so many subcategories. If you say someone is Chassidish you know NOTHING unless you ask a whole lot of other questions.

Ill talk about the men. Just a few examples, there’s a big difference between Lubavitch, Bobov, Satmar, and Breslov, in Chassidish. There are very clear differences.

Now by Yeshivish, you have the shtark Yeshivish Lakewood chevrah, but you also have chevrah like Chofetz chaim guys who aren’t so yeshivish but they aren’t modern either. Same for yeshivos like Chaim Berlin or Torah Vodaas…

Even in MO there’s differences which I am less familiar with so I won’t comment on.
