sam2-Thank you for the additional mareh mekomos. I believe we had a few threads on this last year and during the three weeks. If I remember correctly the tzitz eliezer is mattir music all year round (unlike the igros moshe).

According to The shibolei leket 8: 127, Oz nidberu 8:58, And the Tzitz Eliezer 15:33, Ashrei Ha’ish (hilchos sefira), Halichos Shlomo there is no chiluk between acapella and regular recorded music.

sam2 – i once came across a “sefer” in a chasidishe shul called toras imecha which spoke about the satmar approach to this topic and i saw it was constantly cursing out a sefer which it called ?”? calling him all sorts of names etc. So yeah, he did get screamed at. After that i found the teshuva that sam4 posted. I always love the tzitz eliezer annd his mehalach.

understanding the maskanos and steps of the gemara is learning and definitely requires birkas hatorah and is for sure counted as chazarah

i can learn around that speed when chazaring a mesechta i know well. instead of focusing on him not learning maybe learn a bit yourself. and maybe he was just trying to locate a specific gemara

1- I heard of some who do not have such a minhag. however, according to rav shlomo zalman there is no mekor whatsoever for not wearing a kittel shana rishona.

2- that probably comes from what people do by a bris mila

sam2 — let us not argue in metzious. the shach DOES say 40 years. see YD 246in the last line of shach sk 6 and the beer heitev in sk 3 says that also.

sam2 -does not really sound so shayich. But I saw in halichos shlomo (see tefilah 4 haarah 95 and hilchos pesach by gebroktz) Reb shlomo zalman is mechalek between a minhag, which gets passed down from generation to generation and a personal chumrah, which does not require your children to follow.

His example of a chumra that a son does not need to keep is if one is makpid to not carry in any eruv (not just the ones that rely on rediculous kulos), which is in theory kneged halacha .

i neve figured out why people make a pesach kitchen. I think people should make a chometz kitchen instead. THe week after purim you should kasher you regular kitchen and go to your chometz kitchen and you can cook supper until pesach. That way you can cook for pesach with more than 4 inches on each side of you. What do you think?

logican- the programs are made to encourage learning. nobody says not to learn during bain hazmanim. just the idea of a break is that there is no pressure and you can learn what you want when you want. And you aren’t forced to be in yeshiva from 7-11

naysberg- I was not coming to hock against the minhag. All I was doing was giving a possible reoson that one who eats gebrekts should continue to do so. And btw according to Orchos Rabeinu chelek 2 the Steiplers family ate it while he himself was personally machmir. However, when he got older the steipler was mattir neder. I believe I once saw in maaseh ish that reb Shaul Barzam zt’l family did not eat keilim of gebrokts so when he married into the steiplers family he asked the chazon ish what to do. the chazon ish said to be mattir neder and not chage the way they do it by your shver.

We ask questions because we know we are discussing emes. If so there has to be a pshat. We are not looking at a gemara critically. many times Rishoonim and achronim do not answer their questions rather leave it at a tzarich iyun- which means It needs to be looked into. Not once do they say it must be the gemara was written by a bunch of fools. So you can ask all you want as long as you know you are dealing with the emes and you might not have a pshat.

You know, people who are not away in yeshiva for six months (minus a shabbos here and there) straight really have no say in this matter at all. And besides what do you think i am doing all day- spacing out?

walk into most batei midrashos of Lakewood (or maybe any other town but I can only speak about what i know)and you will see they are packed with bachurim learning. Many of them do not even have extra seats.

Ain hachi nami i do not learn as much as during the zman but but it is not shayich to go on forever with no break
