My grandfather had two brothers, and my grandmother had two sisters.
Two of the brothers married two of the sisters. I think genetically that makes the cousins like siblings…
One brother and one sister never married (anyone, never mind each other). The unmarried sister is 93? and has outlived them all.
wanderingchanaParticipantand I’m Joseph!
wanderingchanaParticipantpba: maybe it’s time to start your own blog?
July 24, 2011 11:12 pm at 11:12 pm in reply to: Why do I feel like I am still trying to Prove Myself to them? #789456wanderingchanaParticipantI really appreciate all the responses here!
I think it’s a bit like going from 8th grade to high school. We were comfortable in our community, knew where we stood, but were at a point where it was time to move on. We found ourselves in a good place to grow, but still unsettled and disoriented.
I went through a “giving it all up” phase but have slowly teased out where I draw the line on artsy things. I just keep reminding myself, I do what I do for Hashem, and for my kids’ chinuch. That we can give our children the Torah education we were not privileged to have is a huge reward in itself.
wanderingchanaParticipantGiving money can be “giving up” when you’re giving tzedakah instead of buying a new blinking, beeping tchotchke. “Giving up” is a positive thing here.
wanderingchanaParticipantarwsf – beautiful.
I forgot about the pictures I threw away. oy… but I do still have Curious George in Hebrew!

wanderingchanaParticipantI’ve used ancestry dot com. I wonder if that might be run by LDS… but they have access to an incredible amount of info going back hundreds of years. U.S. birth, death, marriage records, city directories, census records, Social Security, military… and they are increasing their overseas records more and more.
July 24, 2011 6:07 pm at 6:07 pm in reply to: Should one mourn the death of a Jew no matter who? #789100wanderingchanaParticipantPerhaps her death will wake up even one Jewish fan of hers to do tshuva?…
wanderingchanaParticipantRelationships with family*
Relationships with friends (Jewish, non-Jewish, secular)
Some less-than-desirable middos (that’s an ongoing process)
Caring what people with bad middos think (a looooong ongoing process)
An attitude that needed giving up (part of the processes above)
Caring what my hair looks like (mostly a relief)
Shorts (don’t miss them)
Participating in semi-professional performing groups (that I do miss)
Non-kosher types of entertainment
Nice cars, house, picket fence
Other relationships/things dear to me that I can’t list because there are probably people here who can already guess who I am
*yes, we tried to be conciliatory, in many ways for many years. Finally for the sake of our shalom bayis and the chinuch of our children, we cut our losses. We keep contact to a minimum now.
wanderingchanaParticipantyeshivish mold? does that need a hechsher?
July 22, 2011 5:56 pm at 5:56 pm in reply to: What special Shabbos dish are you making today? #789405wanderingchanaParticipantI’m thinking some extra trays of ice cubes…
wanderingchanaParticipantHello from the heat bubble!
wanderingchanaParticipantrut roh. Does this mean I need a new username?
wanderingchanaParticipantfirst thought: a lot!
wanderingchanaParticipantI wish I knew Hebrew like some people know Yiddish!
wanderingchanaParticipantFor the last week I’ve sat on the edge of my 8 year old son’s bed late at night, watching him sleep and thanking Hashem for letting me be his mother one more day.
In the morning I wake up groggy but grateful to have my little boy another day, and then I take him to his camp, in a yeshiva, and pray to Hashem that he is safe, well cared for, and happy.
Every afternoon I pick him up, relieved to have him back safe. Last night we told him again how grateful we are to Hashem to have been blessed with our little mentch. He’s starting to look embarrassed when we say this. We tell him we’re grateful not just for him, but for the whole family. He still doesn’t know why we’re saying this, and squirms away.
I don’t want to take away his innocence. I also don’t want someone taking it away from him.
Please, Hashem, give me the strength to say what I don’t want to say, but need to say, in order for him to protect himself when I can’t be there for him.
Please, Hashem, let me always be there for him when he needs me to be…
wanderingchanaParticipantAre you talking about a real French-style baguette? Or what’s called a hoagie-grinder-sub depending on where you live?
wanderingchanaParticipantSo why don’t more women whose husbands won’t give them a get burn his food?
wanderingchanaParticipantMazel tov! I hope your article gives much strength to those who need a refuah… IMHO you are doing a great service by sharing your story. May Hashem bless you with continued good health and mazel.
P.S. I hope you’re being published under a pseudonym… and I hope it’s not bombmaniac, LOL!
wanderingchanaParticipantHow about a Joseph Room? All Josephs, all the time.
wanderingchanaParticipant“like”—> “agree”/”disagree”
but then we’ll have lobbying for
“LOL”
“Mamish the most meshugganeh thing I’ve ever heard”

“Mods, please delete this thead IMMEDIATELY!!”
“Go to the Cocoa Room. Go straight to the Cocoa Room. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200”
etc.
wanderingchanaParticipantNot necessary. All they have to do is put him in with the general population right before the guards go to lunch. Bubba who’s already in for 245 more years has nothing to lose.
wanderingchanaParticipantCreate a Cocoa Room. (I forget whose idea this is, but I like it)
wanderingchanaParticipantThanks…

Heartbroken…
wanderingchanaParticipantWe have no choice but to tell the horrible truth. If we don’t, they’ll hear it at camp. Minus the details of course.
May Hashem avenge the tragic death of this pure neshama!!
July 13, 2011 2:49 am at 2:49 am in reply to: Is Mishpacha Magazine Considered Left-of-Center? #866959wanderingchanaParticipantLeft-of-center frum or left-of-center chareidi, and does that mean right-of-MO?
wanderingchanaParticipantI can’t get in either.
wanderingchanaParticipantWish I could help. Good for you for trying. I can’t imagine wanting to take math…
wanderingchanaParticipantIf you’re listening to opera at home that’s one thing, but if you look into the story lines, you’ll find that live opera can be a big problem.
wanderingchanaParticipantThat’s great. I’m so glad this has worked out for you. Looking forward to reading it!
wanderingchanaParticipantWhere are your dangling prepositions at?
wanderingchanaParticipant“hey the mods deleted something i wrote
Mazal Tov!! Kiddush!! Kiddush!!”
Please prepare divrei CR based on your deleted post for the occasion.
wanderingchanaParticipantOurs is decorated in Middle American Scratch & Dent, with a couple anonymously donated baseball bat marks, thrown on gratis.
wanderingchanaParticipantWhat about passing them on to kids or grandkids?
wanderingchanaParticipantFirst of all, welcome back, WIY.
“You may not want to hear this but one of the reasons of marriage is to make a mentch out of the guy.”
Isn’t that the job of the parents?
wanderingchanaParticipantDoes that mean I can be Rebbetzin?
wanderingchanaParticipantAdorable, did you think that Mod-80 was being sarcastic?
I didn’t…
wanderingchanaParticipantbump
wanderingchanaParticipantGB, B”H!
wanderingchanaParticipantNu, pba, it doesn’t get better after you’ve had coffee?
wanderingchanaParticipantHooray! One less thread I brought grinding to a halt!
(Someone posting something after this, please.)
wanderingchanaParticipantWhy not? Shemoneh Esrei is 19.
wanderingchanaParticipantYeah, it’s the Hashem Show. Starring us.
