“ideally i would write a series in one of teh prominent jewish magazines like Mishpacha, Ami, or Zman”

I think that would be a great service to klal Yisrael for you to do so.

My heart aches for the pain you’ve gone through at such a young age. My Hashem bless you with the courage and strength to overcome your childhood.

When I was younger and going through a very difficult time, Immodium-AD helped very much with diarrhea caused by anxiety. Generic form is cheaper and works fine.

Eventually people will be proving how frum they are by not eating chometz except for 3 times a week on Shabbos, on the back porch over napkins that are then set afire at havdalah.

The upside is, no Pesach cleaning. But we’ll clean the entire house anyhow since that’s what we did in the alte heim. But in order to search for chometz, there has to be chometz. So once a year, we’ll bring in 10 vacuum-packed packets of chometz to hide (and make a list of where they’re hidden, of course). Just like we did in the alte heim.

It does no good to freak out if you find chometz, if you believed your declaration of it as dust of the earth before Pesach. Once we found some in a plastic bag (#10, which we knew was lurking somewhere), and our rav told us to carefully flush it, and throw the plastic bag out outside. Not our chometz…

OTOH, I’m 50.1 miles from a nuclear power plant, and if something goes wrong, I’m grabbing the kids out of school and meeting my husband somewhere in the midwest.

“A rasha loves doing what they do. They love causing misery to others, that is their enjoyment and that is their whole purpose in life to hurt others and to make others miserable. So why would a rasha contemplate suicide and another person have to ponder whether or not to save them?”

A rasha who thinks that ending his life would cause misery to those left behind? Who hates someone enough to want to cause them the agony of the decision of whether to try to save them or not? (Suicide bombers (yemach shemo) come to mind.)

A few years ago, we got soaked turning in a lease after 3 years. There were scratches UNDER the front bumper (probably from a cement thing in a parking space). We had to pay $1000 and had no recourse. The dealership is out of business now…

It’s about all of us being one people – the yeshivish guy dancing in the middle of the sephardi guys? OK, I will admit that I don’t know for sure that they are sephardi, but the blue robes with gold trim don’t seem ashkenaz…

Truman’s reality was controlled by humans, i.e. other people’s bechira. (Which was controlled by the script writers, who were controlled by HKBH!)

It’s been a long time since I saw The Truman Show. The scene I remember most is where he got to the end of the “horizon” in the water.

I think it’s more a metaphor for the search for Something More when you think you have everything, than a test of bechira. He had bechira the whole time, but he had to develop the presence of mind to search/think “out of the box”. Someone in jail doesn’t have less bechira than someone out of jail, but their bechira certainly landed them there. That’s another difference – Truman wasn’t “incarcerated” because of HIS actions…

alwayshere – I always cried at brises until my son’s. Then I was just full of joy and gratitude to HKBH for having a healthy baby(he was very sick at first, and his bris was postponed for a week).

Having said that, my first was a girl, and I was just thrilled, and again, so grateful to HKBH. My mother a”h passed away young and unexpectedly a year before, so it was especially meaningful to me to be mother to a girl.

Inattention to children and traumatic brain injury kill. My aunt a”h was 3 years old when she climbed on the back of an ice cream truck and fell off when it started to move. My 6-year-old aunt was supposed to be watching her because my grandmother was with her 1-year-old and newborn (my mother). How much worse is the potential for injury when a child is moving fast on a bicycle.

In other words, you’re not crazy.

Tell them the only way you can afford it is if you move in with them. Then again, that may backfire when they think you’ll babysit for free.

Yeah, the answer here is “no”.

Edited to add: What happened to the idealism of sacrificing to live the Kollel lifestyle? For those in Lakewood to learn, where do they get the idea that all this gashmiyus comes with it?
