“ideally i would write a series in one of teh prominent jewish magazines like Mishpacha, Ami, or Zman”
I think that would be a great service to klal Yisrael for you to do so.
My heart aches for the pain you’ve gone through at such a young age. My Hashem bless you with the courage and strength to overcome your childhood.
wanderingchanaParticipantWhen I was younger and going through a very difficult time, Immodium-AD helped very much with diarrhea caused by anxiety. Generic form is cheaper and works fine.
April 29, 2011 6:44 pm at 6:44 pm in reply to: UNREAL: BoroParkScoop.com Has Eye-Popping Story #983615wanderingchanaParticipantMaybe it was just there for kaddish..
April 29, 2011 12:39 am at 12:39 am in reply to: Yom Hashoah…why do charaidim/right wing orthodox not "celebrate"? #762632wanderingchanaParticipantNobody “celebrates” Yom Hashoah. “Observe” maybe.
wanderingchanaParticipantC’mon, post the rest. I want to know how many Jews there are in North Dakota.
wanderingchanaParticipantEventually people will be proving how frum they are by not eating chometz except for 3 times a week on Shabbos, on the back porch over napkins that are then set afire at havdalah.
The upside is, no Pesach cleaning. But we’ll clean the entire house anyhow since that’s what we did in the alte heim. But in order to search for chometz, there has to be chometz. So once a year, we’ll bring in 10 vacuum-packed packets of chometz to hide (and make a list of where they’re hidden, of course). Just like we did in the alte heim.
wanderingchanaParticipantIf I did, I would never tell anyone.
wanderingchanaParticipantI’ve always got a tune playing in my head. Haven’t figured out how to shut it off yet…
April 27, 2011 6:58 am at 6:58 am in reply to: Yeah, It's A Rant… Talking In Shul and Attitudes… #761746wanderingchanaParticipantI think some of you are missing the point. Why aren’t they playing the part they’re dressed for?
DY has a good idea…
wanderingchanaParticipantIt does no good to freak out if you find chometz, if you believed your declaration of it as dust of the earth before Pesach. Once we found some in a plastic bag (#10, which we knew was lurking somewhere), and our rav told us to carefully flush it, and throw the plastic bag out outside. Not our chometz…
OTOH, I’m 50.1 miles from a nuclear power plant, and if something goes wrong, I’m grabbing the kids out of school and meeting my husband somewhere in the midwest.
wanderingchanaParticipantI don’t care what everyone else does. I’ve been and back. Never seen so many crabby Jews in my life. SMILE!! Thank the store for staying open late! You can open a bag of cookies in the car!!
wanderingchanaParticipantNot 13?
wanderingchanaParticipantPushed it in the sockets with what, a fork???
omgosh… I hope no one was injured, and more importantly, learned something…
wanderingchanaParticipantHow is this thread different from all other threads?
wanderingchanaParticipantZeeskite – pictures, please??
wanderingchanaParticipantJoseph? LOL
April 12, 2011 12:21 pm at 12:21 pm in reply to: Any Reason Not To Save A Potential Suicide? #758384wanderingchanaParticipant“A rasha loves doing what they do. They love causing misery to others, that is their enjoyment and that is their whole purpose in life to hurt others and to make others miserable. So why would a rasha contemplate suicide and another person have to ponder whether or not to save them?”
A rasha who thinks that ending his life would cause misery to those left behind? Who hates someone enough to want to cause them the agony of the decision of whether to try to save them or not? (Suicide bombers (yemach shemo) come to mind.)
wanderingchanaParticipantI thought children weren’t supposed to attend a parent’s remarriage?
wanderingchanaParticipantWow. Glossy ads and fliers in all the mags, and now storefront rent? It must be true that “it takes money to make money”.
wanderingchanaParticipantKol, that would help the shidduch crisis…
April 7, 2011 8:42 pm at 8:42 pm in reply to: Do You Own/Lease/Finance Your Car? Which one and Why? #756750wanderingchanaParticipantA few years ago, we got soaked turning in a lease after 3 years. There were scratches UNDER the front bumper (probably from a cement thing in a parking space). We had to pay $1000 and had no recourse. The dealership is out of business now…
April 7, 2011 5:15 pm at 5:15 pm in reply to: How long before Y"T does your house become Pesachdik? #1009503wanderingchanaParticipantThis year – next Wednesday.
wanderingchanaParticipantHow would you feel if you found out someone you were dating was also dating someone else at the same time?
wanderingchanaParticipantWolf and TBT: Thank you for taking my question seriously.
PBA: My Hebrew is very limited beyond what I posted.
wanderingchanaParticipantIt’s about all of us being one people – the yeshivish guy dancing in the middle of the sephardi guys? OK, I will admit that I don’t know for sure that they are sephardi, but the blue robes with gold trim don’t seem ashkenaz…
Tanz tanz tanz…
wanderingchanaParticipantCould you translate chee chee?
wanderingchanaParticipantreal brisker: such as?
PBA: chee chee?
wanderingchanaParticipantBaal Korea. <rim shot>
wanderingchanaParticipantTruman’s reality was controlled by humans, i.e. other people’s bechira. (Which was controlled by the script writers, who were controlled by HKBH!)
April 6, 2011 7:12 pm at 7:12 pm in reply to: Which Rov would you call if you wanted a Rov's slant on a major decision? #757653wanderingchanaParticipantI trust my Rav, especially because he won’t hesitate to refer me if I need to speak to someone with more knowledge in a subject that he feels he has.
wanderingchanaParticipantI’m grateful for every morning that I wake up with what I had the day before, whether I remembered to thank HKBH for it or not.
wanderingchanaParticipantIt’s been a long time since I saw The Truman Show. The scene I remember most is where he got to the end of the “horizon” in the water.
I think it’s more a metaphor for the search for Something More when you think you have everything, than a test of bechira. He had bechira the whole time, but he had to develop the presence of mind to search/think “out of the box”. Someone in jail doesn’t have less bechira than someone out of jail, but their bechira certainly landed them there. That’s another difference – Truman wasn’t “incarcerated” because of HIS actions…
April 6, 2011 7:40 am at 7:40 am in reply to: Avraham, are we the children that you dreamed of? #1133816wanderingchanaParticipantIt’s a line from 8th Day’s album, that Yai’lili’s on (Chasing Prophecy). It’s a beautiful song.
wanderingchanaParticipantNo, that was for something else. Yes, the next project is to finish taxes…
wanderingchanaParticipantHe was a Muppet Show character, early 80s?
wanderingchanaParticipantalwayshere – I always cried at brises until my son’s. Then I was just full of joy and gratitude to HKBH for having a healthy baby(he was very sick at first, and his bris was postponed for a week).
Having said that, my first was a girl, and I was just thrilled, and again, so grateful to HKBH. My mother a”h passed away young and unexpectedly a year before, so it was especially meaningful to me to be mother to a girl.
wanderingchanaParticipantHere’s your slop. Takes like chicken. Enjoy.
wanderingchanaParticipantEH: Thanks so much, I will definitely try jewishgen.org!
MD: Wikipedia has several different names for the town, and gives some info on the yeshivas there and the time periods, but it doesn’t have the specifics I’m hoping to find. (A website called “The Life of Wanderingchana’s Ancestor in Novardok” would be nice, LOL)
wanderingchanaParticipantVery funny. Reminds me a little of the Swedish Chef. (Dating myself)
wanderingchanaParticipantI’m special, just like everybody else…
wanderingchanaParticipantI am much better at holding my tongue (and my typing) than I used to be. Hey, it’s progress…
wanderingchanaParticipantTwo things come to mind:
1) it’s still Adar
2) is it April 1 yet where you live?
wanderingchanaParticipantInattention to children and traumatic brain injury kill. My aunt a”h was 3 years old when she climbed on the back of an ice cream truck and fell off when it started to move. My 6-year-old aunt was supposed to be watching her because my grandmother was with her 1-year-old and newborn (my mother). How much worse is the potential for injury when a child is moving fast on a bicycle.
In other words, you’re not crazy.
wanderingchanaParticipantTwo words: time management
wanderingchanaParticipantI would answer, but I don’t see a mechitza here.
wanderingchanaParticipantA president named bombmaniac? Perfect.
Zees, you’re doing fine.
wanderingchanaParticipantLove it!!
wanderingchanaParticipantAs soon as you, like, realize how totally awesome it is to be taken seriously by, like, adults, you’ll agree…
wanderingchanaParticipantI am a musician and I have no idea what a casio is.
March 24, 2011 4:02 pm at 4:02 pm in reply to: Married Lakewood kids want a down payment now! #753568wanderingchanaParticipantTell them the only way you can afford it is if you move in with them. Then again, that may backfire when they think you’ll babysit for free.
Yeah, the answer here is “no”.
Edited to add: What happened to the idealism of sacrificing to live the Kollel lifestyle? For those in Lakewood to learn, where do they get the idea that all this gashmiyus comes with it?
