This year, to my delight and surprise, the pupa-tzhlem matzos were almost all shleimos., in stark contrast to other years. They were transported from the bakery to a home in Lakewood, then each 2 lb box was put into a alrger outer box abs stransported by car over 500 miles.
The KAJ Haddar machine shmura chabura matzos baked in EY, were bought at Gourmet Glatt $13.79/lb. Transported to the same out of town location. Not a single one broken!July 26, 2017 1:50 pm at 1:50 pm in reply to: cost of living for a young couple in lakewood #1325748VerZogtParticipantHi,
The largest employers for frum women seem to be medical billing businesses and LTC Senior Planning. If you have friends in Lakewood you can inquire what the pay scale is. You seem to know what the rents are already.Your next big budget item is medical insurance. Are there children? Costs for a family are higher than for a couple, If you are below a certain age you may still be on your parent’s plan. What would med insurance cost if the employer offers a plan? Do you qualify for Medicaid/ NJ Family Care?
If you have children you must figure on child care costs which can be significant.
If you have a car, remember auto insurance and maintenance.I agree you can live normally on 30k. or even less if you are careful and not extravagant. Do you HAVE to buy prepared and convenience foods? Carry a smart phone with data plan? etc etc. Everyone has their own standard of living.
If you earn more than your basic cost of living do not forget taxes and maaser, and saving/investing regularly for your future goals, like buying a house, kids’ chasunos.
Hatzlocho!
VerZogtParticipantMy wife recently bought model 880(?). She is thrilled with it.

VerZogtParticipantMazel Tov. Don’t be impressed by what ppl say you “have” to do. What is accepted in the chasan’s circles is what you want to find out, to avoid disappointing him. What ppl here write is limited to what they are familiar with and may be irrelevant to you.
I agree that atoro on a talis is minhag among those who are chasidish or the grandfather was chasidish in Europe.
If you wish to give a watch, many chasanim today prefer a steel band. Again, it depends on what is prevalent in his and his parents’ circles.
Some kallahs like to buy the chasan a silverbecher. Don’t let the silver store talk you into a huge one, it is impractical and if used for the seder , makes it difficult to drink Rov Kos.
VerZogtParticipantYes renter, I know personally of people whose children in Lakewd did not have their kids enrolled in elementary when the school year started. ,every available opening was taken bysiblings of students, children of moros or rebeim, etc.
It was traumatic for the kids, parents and gparents. I repeat, don’t even think of moving there unless you are 100%assured of school acceptance. The amazing increase in enrollment year over year makes it impossible for the sschools to keep up.
VerZogtParticipantIf you have school age children do not move to Lakewood unless you have been assured of placement in a school in advance. The schools and other communal infrastucture cannot keep up with the booming growth.
VerZogtParticipantThank you Yichus, Brit , for the suggestion, I already had the company’s event coordinator contact the catering manager. They use a company that produces airline meals.
Mod-This is for 2 ppl.
If a high
er-qulality alternative is available, i imagine the hotel might use them in the future.
VerZogtParticipantThanks, but you can go back to sleep:)
