    RGP.

Yes. Yes. And Yes. It’s not an edele expression. We are bidden, urged by Chazal, by the Torah, to use a Loshon Nekiah. It mirrors and reflects the character. And it affects and influences the character. It goes both ways. Male and female, both need a clean Neshamah!

(I get your drift. That’s my answer to you in my humble opinion. It’s coarse to be mentioned by both genders… think of the word belly – actually it is its translation. Would you call yourself with that obscene, crude word?)

If truth need be told, RGP, it’s because of a certain complaint I had with that name I either sounded off to you or to the Mods. That word, at least to me, sounded a bit coarse, vulgar, something not edel. I’m sorry if I offended you. It was probably many screennames ago. I guess the higher ups conferred and changed it to the present one…

    Long time no see!!!

I have the same problem. Really.

    Figured out the best way to deal with it is to just get up and fire up. At the beginning it feels like I’m beating a dead horse, after a while I feel the engines starting to sputter and purr. And then twirl and whirl at full blast!!! {HEY! WATCH WHERE YOU’RE RUNNING WITH THOSE SCISSORS!}

Syag, Again, you put it down most beautifully.

I cared to respond (you did note my abstinence, didn’t you!) not for him/her, but for others looking on and maybe getting a feeling that that’s a normative view in Jewish ideals. No, I didn’t, nor could have I known if this poster was sincere or not.

I just wanted to state the Torah’s case: ואבדיל אתכם מן העמים, when we’re APART and doing what we ought to, then we belong to Him, להיות לי, as the Medrash says. Understandably, a lot of these issues, thoughts, sayings are not fit for consumption for the Politically Correct… It’s HaShem’s word, the only absolute truth, and that’s the only thing that counts. Of course we have to be candid how we go about it, there’s no need for in-you-face confrontations, and we need to have in mind the best way to attract and draw close those alienated from Torah and its ways (yes, I’m a Torah Mate – learning on the job!!). It’s just that sometimes the ultimate and absolute truths get blurred BECAUSE OF OUR CLOSE PROXIMITY to our ‘neighbors’, and we ourselves have to be reminded that these truths are directly from the world’s Great Inventor up here.

    OK. I’m back. Let’s try.

Yes. Conversing with someone of the opposite gender is sinful, according to Halacha, actually a well known Mishna in Pirkei Avos. And the Rambam states to distance oneself from women “EXTREMELY, EXTREMELY” (if my memory is not failing). So too advises Shlomo Hamelech. I have a hunch that he was slightly smarter than some anonymous entity who claims he has it all figured out.

Actually they did that in the era of the Mabul (great flood). Only they went a step further – they actually ‘tried out’ all the females they encountered, מכל אשר בחרו, to “be able to conquer that taiva”, I suppose. (and by the way, modern day society isn’t lagging to far…)

And to answer another question of yours, YES, a gay person is a sinner, no matter how cultured he is. We have our set of morals, ideals, lifestyle directly from HaSHem. He says explicitly in His Torah ואת זכר לא תשכב… And ואיש אשר ישכב את זכר..מות יומתו. His Torah is the absolute truth, whether we understand or not. In time of Sanhedrin he’d be put to death, notwithstanding that he feels he’s leading a so called moral life. Hey who’s calling the shots here? HaShem says his lifestyle is a תועבה, and he has a gall to call himself moral?!? HaShem deemed it an unnatural lust, and he legitimizes it?!?

And back to the Rambam (it’s Gemarah and Mishna too), he tells us to be in the environs of Torah true Jews. In the company of Torah practicing Jews – BECAUSE WE ARE SO AFFECTED BY OUR SURRONDINGS, our friends, our neighbors.

WOW. Here is someone who conquered his taavos. Here in the flesh (actually blogging about it somewhere in the blogesphere…) One Rabbi, when he heard something to the likes of what you attempt to claim, asked “And how many times did you have to sin, in order to CLAIM immunity to the Yetzer Hara?”

We have HaShem’s (that GOD up there) set of rules and ethics He said to follow. That is the ultimate and absolute good and moral standard to strive for. <<Gotta go now, more אי”ה later>>

in reply to: Why do Chassidim seem happier. #1710511
    Little Froggie

My three cents: (upgraded due to inflation)

    1) Rabbi Miller, in numerous talks, stresses the need to always walk with a smile, we’re always in show, conveying the portrait of an eved HaShem who is happy in His duty. So even when when we’re not in the best of moods, we should try and paste whatever kind of smile we can afford. We’re on HaShem’s propaganda committee.

    2) Chassidim put more of a Dagash (focus) on the service of HaShem, rather then the development of one’s character. So even though one brings the other, a Chassid’s measure is not by what he has turned himself into, rather his measuring stick is what and how he serves His Creator. How he becomes a better person will eventually come about, however, that is not his goal. So every deed one does for HaShem is a cause for happiness. Another Mitzvah, another hour of limud haTorah, another aveira avoided. What a zchus to be able to effect such Nachas by HaShem. So of course its a source of great happiness.

    3) The performance of a Mitzvah with Simcha is itself a Mitzvah. Which is cause for more happiness. Which is then cause for more happiness. Which is then cause for more happiness. Which is then cause for more happiness. Which is then cause for more happiness. Which is then cause for more happiness…….

(which brings to mind a story told over of someone who was not able to sell his stock of whisky in time for Pesach. So in middle of Pesach he made a huge bonfire and had his whole stock burnt. Then he hired musicians to play – to add to the Simcha Shel Mitzva. Details are etchy.. I think he was Zoche to something great in return…)

Mammele: Actually when I walk in the streets people look (peer, peek, snoop) at me. There’s really no need to take (r”l) a picture of me! And even if I’d be sitting in an airplane (not in the cockpit), people all around will (again, heaven forfend) look (stare, peer, peek or even snoop) at me. So an additional camera peek should be no worse. As long as something’s not invading my privacy, why should I, or anyone else, care. Anything in the public I should suppose is, um, public. No?

Ye, there’s a wealth of information out there. The World Wide Web IS world wide, encompassing much. Entering someone’s name, phone number or email address can get you limited info or even a picture. You know what? A massive phone book can do the same!!!

That last line was supposed to be a joke (OH! + duh!). Like something of a MOD coming out and saying that he/she actually sees me, sees my face. (and knows my name is Shimon!) How I love dissecting jokes..

And now to that line about me being a shikel (piece) of a musician…
Actually I am. Right. Just a piece. And no.. while a lot of people have heard me… no such pictures circulate on the web with my name associated. Nobody is actually interested in snooping my out of “hiding”. בתוך עמי אנכי יושבת. Nothing big or interesting,,, At all.

I may have dropped HERE some hints of drops of specifics… still my anonymousity remains to this day (and a thank you to the mods for keeping it that way).

So I actually don’t care if google records how many times I buy from Walmart. Or which brand tissues I prefer. I recently checked the tissue boxes thru and thru – no hidden devices, electronical chemical or biological included. Same with all my Walmart purchases. I sent all the stuff thru a body scanner, a magnetic scanner, an x-ray scanner. They all return negative, so my stuff is still (as of now) safe from bugs, transmitters, mics and cameras.

I have a niggling feeling that the world out there is not so interested in me. Actually I did a google search of my name (real one, the one you DON’T KNOW) and NOTHING showed up!! No, I’m not a ‘macher’ and don’t try to be. So I’m not such a “household name”. At all. Also, I’m sensible, I post and publish what’s sensible, what I feel is safe, and keep the rest to myself. I’m not really sure the world out there needs to know what and how much I ate for supper last night (or EVERY NIGHT), who my friends are, or what my gory hobbies are.

There’s an algorithm I always use:

Take the average of how much Torah you already know, plus how much you intend to still learn, plus how much time and effort you know you will commit to Torah study. Then multiply that by the square root of your age minus the amount of best friends you have. That should give you your result.

Seriously. get what you think will be useful. I, personally, prefer the mini sets, I’m often on the go. It allows me to learn instantly on the go.

in reply to: Do rabbis have ruach hakodesh? #1677887
    Little Froggie

I know (with my Ruach HaKodesh) someone who always uses the Holocaust to “prove” that Chachamim never had, nor will have Ruach HaKodesh, Taas Torah and etc.

And he’s wrong every single time (he doesn’t have Ruach HaKodesh!)

They use the mantra (they were indoctrinated, force-fed, since youth) “look at this great Rabbi, why didn’t he save his Kehilla?” And they attempt, with that and other ploys, over and over again, to try to lessen our adherence to Chachmei, Gedolei Yisroel. They try time and again to wean us from our עיני העדה…

I believe I once answered those claims (many years and many screen names ago!) I’ll try now – from memory:
    1) A Tzadikkk’s Ruach HaKodesh comes from “Kodesh” – HaShem (Oh really?!) So although HaShem generally stands by and guides his closest, HaShem, in His infinite intelligence, for reasons we as mortals cannot fathom, decides at times to withhold his assistance.

    2) That era was an era unparallel in Jewish history, actually in all of world history. A time of Heavenly “Anger” (ריתחא). A great, painful הסתר פנים (again – for reasons known only to HaShem) where HaShem so to speak turned His face away from His nation. And we’ve heard from our Greats – they felt their divine assistance vanished. ואבדה חכמת חכמיו ובינת נבניו תסתתר, a great a fearful prophesy, was said regarding this terrible era. So NATURALLY some Gedolim lost their powers. Others were extended unquestionable Ruach HaKodesh EVEN in that horrible period.

    3) Certain Gedolim understood all too well, and decided it was better to perish in this world and not in the next. It was Nebach done all through our long and bitter Galus. We mention a few on Tisha Ba’av, where a father would take his children…
