    I’m slightly confused..

They’re against the draft.. but if I understand Yiddish correctly, the signs say (in BIG BOLD, BLACK AND RED) “WAR”. מלחמה. We should all go out to war.

    So.. which way is it?!?

Actually YES. I stopped trying to hide, it’s of no use. And besides, if you haven’t noticed, I don’t “live” here anymore like I used to. I’ve recently found out that there is life out there on that far-away planet Earth. Much to do, much to accomplish… (and besides, the new “updates” here make it more difficult to post) I do revert and “come back to my roots” from time to time.. but nothing like the good old times.

I do lurk, however, and did notice your absence. Hope everything is fine and you’re absent for good reasons.

The soldiers forgot the intricacies of spelling during their time out in the field… When an enemy shoots they don’t ponder if it’s to kil or to kill… they take cover with somehat or whatever hat they find…

Seriously.. there is a set of settings on the screens themselves. Then there are settings on the computer too, for each one individually. This varies between video card adapter manufacturers.

Oh! I though you were in the cockpit….

as an aside… something really funny happened to me one time.. I took a plane out with an experienced instructor.. He was in the student’s seat, I was in the main.. Anyways.. he’s going through the pre-flight check.. check this.. check that. Then, “where’s the x?” (forgot what it was.. many years ago).. and he’s searching for it all around!!! (mind you – he’s an instructor!) I timidly pointed to it.. Oh!

Another time I went with another one. He did the landing, and as he’s coming in I hear a whistle… “what’s that?”, Oh it’s nothing… (actually it was the stall warning.. not dangerous at that phase, but shouldn’t have been…)

Actually the precise time to say it on a plane would be when co-pilot calls out “rotate”. That’s the “point of no return”. Which would be the exact time to say Tefillas Haderech.

I was just writing for “lchatchila”. Lchatchila it should be said standing. And a pilot (or driver) should be doing nothing.

That actually is the crux and the meaning of Passover. HaShem chose us, redeemed “HIS” firstborn son, from among the others. We are “racists” in a way, because we believe in this Torah principle. However, our believing in our superiority will not (and should not) cause us to act inferior, mean, hurtful, harmful towards our neighbors. We are busy enough with ourself, we have no need, nor want to malign others. We are separate, yes, completely separate ואבדיל אתכם מן העמים להיות לי, but we are bidden to act gracefully towards our neighbors.

With our own, we are bidden all the mitzvohs bein adam lachaveiro, many steps above and beyond the “normal”, accepted civility in society.. To our neighbors we act fair.. and we do not seek to harm them.

Shehechiyanu I think is said when buying.

The issue I think is tefillas haderech. Because it really should be said standing (I think), and when not doing anything. So lchatchila you should first wait for lift off, then get out and say tefillas haderech, get back in, and continue….

    Zaltzvasser: How’d you guess?

However, I do about half of all the Pesach cleaning, and then there’s kashering, papering (the hardest!). And then I’m busy a lot of nights (till 1:00am+) in a Matzah bakery, doing a strenuous, tiring part. On my feet. Straight, for many hours. No, it’s easy. But it’s a privilege. A way of giving a something to the Ribono Shel Olam. With our entire body. A precious Mitzvah!!

LuL: You’re not being for real here, are you? You don’t really mean to equate a by-product of an event (i.e. a presidential appearance, traffic) to a deliberate action MEANT PURPOSEFULLY to harm others. And DAVKA others – as terrorists do. Read my post before. I don’t know which land it’s the norm – other than in Sodom! A protest, demonstration (even on a daily basis!) I would hear (actually I do hear – I have a son living IN it, directly above those cute little Froggies being burnt daily!), but harming by deliberate intent is wrong and Assur. And there’s no Heter for it. And it’s pure Lashon Hara to say they asked a Sha’alo, you’re Motzi Shem Ra on the Rav who gave permission.

Since I know the whole world is just waiting my psak… I’ll throw in my 1.005 cents..

No one has a right to cause inconvenience to one because of a dispute to another. PERIOD. Blocking innocent people from going where they want/ must go, is wrong. Dead wrong. Makes no difference who’s right or who’s wrong, your conflict is with the government, NOT the innocents waiting to get by. We pasken אסור להציל בממון חבירו, certainly אסור להזיק חבירו – FOR ITS SAKE. That’s the method of terrorists, not anyone אשר בשם ישראל יכונה.

And if I’d be the driver I’d continue, ever so slowly, but steadily. It’s a place for cars, people don’t belong there. If one gets injured or worse, it’s his fault – as every yeshiva boy knows – שהיה לו לברוח. Opps where talking here about a בר דעת, an Eved… maybe…

A really great question, with so many answers. So many seforim and books talk about it.

To start – the Torah truths and principles do not change. לא תהא תורה אחרת, מוחלפת. They are the absolute truths. It’s about how to reconcile our actions, approach, direction to be in line with the Torah, not the other way around.

Let me begin with a “vort” I read somewhere – הקהה את שיניו – soften his bite! So prevalent, useful for today’s rebellious, defiant youths. Try to soften him/her up. There’s a מגפה out there, and it’s not necessarily the kid’s fault – do anything to get him back.

Another approach: Where the subject is far gone, we want to at least save the rest… we set a distance… we’ll have to deal with this kid later.. we need to salvage what we could. Think of an amputation ר”ל, it’s painful, awfully painful, but it’s needed to save the rest.. It IS DIFFERENT because לבל ידח ממנו נדח, eventually everyone will return.. question is when.

Thank you!! אי”ה by you בקרוב! (and don’t forget to post the good news here!) I don’t know your name, but HaShem does, that’s the main thing that counts, he knows exactly whom I’m having in mind when I bench you!! Nissan is an especial time for good tidings… especially for Shidduchim (מושיב יחידים ביתה מוציא אסירים בכושרות).

HaShem… I realize the Chassodim you did, and do for us, IN SPITE of by behavior. I realize it is entirely a מתנת חנם, through and through. No, there is NO WAY I can be תולה on anything I have EVER done, rather it’s an undeserving חסד in spite of my ways… Please רבונו של עולם, make our Simchah more complete by having others being helped out in their מצבים, in their time of need, each to what he or she may need to make them truly happy.

Yekke: If you’d just repeat your words with though, you’d realize the truth! How does “Ad delo yoda” become a chiuv, a mitzvah or a kiyum of its own? If I’m correct, “ad” means “until”. What does “until one does not know..” get to be a chiuv??? And would such a statement make sense? Shouldn’t a SHIUR be preceded with something to DO, some ACTION?

So for those who are not yet ad delo yoda, actually the Gemara DOES make sense. It IS preseeded with something, they’re hiding from you. Gemarah actually starts Amar Rava chayav inish lebesumay bPuria ad delo yoda… Whoops. Now it makes some sense. THe kium is besumay, and the shiur is ad (translated “until”) is the shiur.

(when you’re eating Matzho on Pesach, there’s no Kiyum of “Kezayis”. If I recall it has to be Matzoh, with a Shiur of kezayis. Eating a kezayis of apples is not “another option” to be mekayem Kezayis Matzoh. Same here. Going to sleep on Purim without “besumey” is not “another option” to do away with “besumay”. One has to do Besumay – with a Shiur (ad) Until…)

    (I think that’s p’shat in Haleivi’s cryptic Rant)

Actually yes!!! I had a specific name chosen just so to throw this relative off my tracks. It worked for some time. However a minor slip-up was all that was needed for this relative to positively identify me. Ever since I lost the real power of the element of anonymity here. I’ve tried twice to alter my s/n – to no avail. Seems that I have a certain style I cannot mask, it’s always discernible. And then one day my Mom cornered me, asking if I was this poster. Ever since I’ve had to behave myself… (if you think I’m bad now….)
