January 25, 2017 4:10 am at 4:10 am in reply to: Jews should not care whether the American embassy is in Jerusalem or Tel Aviv #1213714UtahMemberJoseph – I fully disagree with you in what you said in this quote:
“Jews should not be supporting the State of Israel or its interests, other than to the extent they promote safety.”
I think that you are completely wrong about this and that the State of Israel does a lot of good for the Jewish people. The state gives funding to yeshivas and other Jewish institutions. The state does a lot of good and I’m sorry that you are unable to see it. While you are entitled to your opinion I really disagree with you and hope that you would be able to see Israel in a different light.
UtahMemberSimularly to what Ctlawyer said. the city where I grew up in there were two different high schools for both boys and girls. While some families sent their children to the local high schools other families decided that those schools were not a good fit for their children and sent their kids out of town. Both boys and girls.

December 28, 2016 4:08 am at 4:08 am in reply to: Politics thread for those who can't bear politics threads #1206223UtahMemberI once ran for class president. In my election campaign I kissed babies and shook hands with veterans. I also made promises that I could keep (longer recess, less homework, fairer teams for sports, Ect.) People loved me. I won in a landslide victory of 90% – 10%. I would like to think I had good middos.

I strongly disagree with that today’s marriages are shallow. Projecting much?
Also I highly doubt that many abusive marriages were wonderful and happy. Maybe they were for the person doing the abuse. But for the person getting abused? Common do you really believe they are happy? Perhaps on the outside they seemed like they were happy but on the inside I bet they were dying.
A healthy relationship has no reason for it to be abusive. If it starts to be abusive then you know that it is not healthy.

If they didnt want people to see untznius pictures then they shouldnt have put those pictures in the book in the first place. Photoshopping them is misrepresenting and it is a form of not telling the truth.
I just dont see how you can rationialize this and say that one should be dan lekaf zechus. They may have had good intentions but i still feel that what they did was wrong.
UtahMember@Lilmod ulelamaid
there is absolutely no reason to bump this. If you would like to refer to this topic just make a new post and add a link to this. It is pointless to bring this back.
UtahMembermw13 – So your saying that its ok for us to misrepresent something and change it so it suits our needs? Isn’t that just another form of not telling the truth? (mitzva haba bavariah aino mitzva)
Lets admit our mistakes and learn from them. Otherwise the torah would say that everyone was perfect and thats how we should live… clearly it isn’t this way and the torah tells us the mistakes of our forefathers. Why are we more relligious then the torah and why do we try and cover up the mistakes of previous generations?
UtahMemberPrayers for my brothers and sisters in Israel.
Lets try and do some mitzvos for them. Maybe try and focus on one mitzva and really try to make it a focus so that in its merit our brothers and sisters wont have to suffer from the fires.
Also a side question does anyone know of anyone collecting money to send to the people that were affected from the fires? I want to help out.
UtahMember@rebyid ok so your a good guy and trump is also a good guy.
@yehudayona I dont mean that. I mean that I’ve heard stories of Trump doing big acts of kindness with his own personal assets. For exapmle I heard a story of how Trump flew a sick kid in his personal plane to recieve medical treatments after the kid was told that he wasnt allowed to fly commercial. I’m talking more about acts like that. (Google this story. Happened about a year ago with a sick jewish kid from LA)
UtahMemberWhat makes you say that he is a rasha?
The guy does a lot of charity and good deeds.
He is also a very big supporter of Israel and even has Jewish Grandchildren. I do not think that makes him a rasha.
UtahMemberMod – no I am not
@147 there is something called a time limit. Also there are other debates maybe it will be brought up then. I think you are 100% wrong in saying that I am oblivious to serious issues. I think that taxes, foreign policy, NAFTA and creating jobs are very important issues and issues that I care about.
I really don’t get why you want me to listen to Sean Hannity. I think that I am smart enough to form my own opinion of the debate and from what I saw Lester Holt did a very good job in moderating the debate.
As to the birthing matter I do agree that he could have asked a better question but I do think that it shows that Trump gets caught up in something and will not be able to let it go. This is behavior that can potentially be damaging if he wins the election.
PS. Based on my knowledge when someone starts questioning something about someone (like you did by saying that I am oblivious to serious issues), that usually means that that person has that issue with themselves. So does this mean that you are oblivious to serious issues?
UtahMember@ 147 Why should Bengazi have been brought up? She answered questions on that already. Also Hillary did mention that she plans on raising taxes. Trump addressed that by saying that he wants to lower taxes.
Besides I don’t get why you are complaining about Lester Holt. As a far as I’m concerned he was not biased at all and he allowed the candidates to speak for themselves and debate! He was just there to point them towards conversation. Also how was he out there to destroy Trump? If anyone was destroying Trump it was himself as he said several outrageous things.
Are you related to Sparkly?
UtahMemberI think that Hillary won the debate. She also looked so much more presidential then Trump.
UtahMember@147 I though Hillary did an excellent job explaining her positions on numerous topics and she admitted that she made a mistake about the emails. At least she is honest enough to admit that she made a mistake and therefore she will be a good president because she will be able to admit her mistakes. I dont think Trump would be able to do so. In addition how can you say that Trump won? He was so rude to Hillary and did not let her get any talking points in.
UtahMemberI mean the group that helps people that are suffering from sexual abuse and substance abuse

UtahMemberI have so much appreciation for the soldiers of the IDF. Having lived in Israel for a little while I have seen firsthand how much they do just to enable a normal life for those of us that did not serve.
I have many friends that served or are currently serving and every day I pray for their safety. I can’t thank them enough for what they do.

April 28, 2016 2:13 pm at 2:13 pm in reply to: Should frum children have a library card? ✡️👪📚💳 #1149629UtahMemberThe point of contention here isn’t whether or not the concept of a Kosher Non-Jewish book exists; the discussion is whether to (a) allow our kids to be exposed to the world of secular reading to ensure they don’t fall down from the high standards of Yiddishkeit we expect, and (b) even if we allow our children to read these books, should we allow them to go to a library, where there is such an array of Tumah.
In regards to A, You are agreeing with me that there are books that have appropraite content. Then its up to the parents to censure the content to make sure that books with the inapproperate content do not get into their homes. But that said it is up to each parent to set the limit for the OWN home. In regards to B, you can say the same thing about anywhere. Should we let our children walk on the streets because there may be someone who is not dressed sniously? Of course not. Same thing for the supermarket. There are lots of nonkosher food there, maybe one of our children will buy something not kosher. Should we stop them from going there? No! Thats ridiclious. At some point you need to trust your children to make the right choices. And if you can’t then either you aren’t a good parent or you have some serious trust issues.
And I should have know that Yekles have no sense of humor. Torah = holy book. We are the people of the torah.
And yeah while we do need to send them the message that we are different then them, there are other more effective ways to do it.
April 28, 2016 2:03 am at 2:03 am in reply to: Should frum children have a library card? ✡️👪📚💳 #1149626UtahMemberI find this all to be such a funny discussion. I grew up in a town where everyone had a library card. In fact the jewish school that I went to would give us reports to do where we had to take put books from the library. I’ve never even heard of people not having library cards until I read this. I have many friends, who are now learning in some of the top yeshivas in America and Israel, who read nonjewish books when they were younger… And they turned out fine.
This seems to me like one of these things that if a parent wants to censur what books thier children read, thats fine. But to say that these children should not have a library card? Thats pushing it. There are a lot of books that were written by nonjewish authors that are completely fine. After all aren’t we the people of the book.
Another thing, if we say that nonjewish books are all bad what message does that send to our children about the nonjews? We need to work with these people.

UtahMember@147 Well in Salt Lake City we do have these spaces with grass. But we call them parks. They aren’t empty. Also its a crime to light fires in them.
I’m also not aware of these big empty open spaces that you speak of. Can you be more specific?
UtahMemberYes. If you look in the archives this question has been asked and there have been many reputable sources brought to confirm this.
UtahMemberNo because by the time he is president America will have be made great. Thus by wearing that hat you are being Morid Bamalchus.
When he is president there will be new hats that will say other slogans. Perhaps one will say “Amearica – Great again. That hat you would be able to wear.
UtahMember@worldproblemsolver why are you bringing up a post from 3 years ago. If you want to talk about this subject just start a new topic.
UtahMemberI have no clue what you guys are talking about. Out here in Salt Lake City its supposed to be in the 50’s on Purim. Sunday is supposed to be even nicer with highs in the 70’s.
UtahMemberUsually in second dates I try and have fun and see if I get along with the person. I don’t think its a good idea to talk about hashkafa until the third date. I’m more MO tho.
UtahMember@ocho sinco I feel you bro. Looks do matter when you are in a relationship and you’ve got to feel like your with the most attractive woman in the world. That being said I’m wondering if you have ever had a relationship with a girl for a long period of time? From what I’ve experienced the longer that I went out with the girl the more and more attractive I found her to be. Even if I didn’t find them to be as attractive in the beginning.
What they are saying by lowering your expectations is more along the lines of you don’t need to be 100% into her from the first date. Just if there is something there. Maybe you find her a little pretty, or maybe she has a cute smile or something along those lines. Give girls like that more time and don’t be so quick to call it off because your not attracted to them.
UtahMemberWouldn’t davening just be distracting the driver? Isn’t that a prohibition of putting your life in a dangerous position.
@Mik5 who wrote this sefer? And why does he say only mincha? What makes Mincha greater then Shacharis or Mariv? Is this case specifically for erev shabbos/ yom tov where if he doesn’t daven while driving he will not make it to his destination before shabbos/ Yom Tov begins thus causing him to break the shabbos/ yom tov? Or is this case taking about when he is in a rush and it would inconvenience him?
UtahMemberI would not classify Birchas Hatorah as a MO yeshiva. The new rosh yeshiva has turned it into a more yeshivish place.
UtahMember@aquestioningjew Toras Moshe is not considered a Modern Orthodox yeahiva
UtahMember@Jacoby Look into Netiv Aryeh, Torat Shraga, Lev Hatorah, Reishit, Mevaseret, Aish, Shaalav, KBY, Gush, Hakotel. Those are just some places that I can think of off the top of my head.
The boy could become a serious Ben Torah at any of these places. It just depends on his personality.

UtahMember@Joseph You have trolling level has now increased and is now 26!!! Would you like a cookie to celebrate?
UtahMemberThat really depends on their personality. Many of the Modern Orthodox Yeshivas are great places but they are great for different types of people. For example a Person who would do really well at Shaalvim may not do so well at Netiv Aryeh and visa versa. But that doesn’t mean that Shaalvim is a better place. Just works better for different personalities.
