Truthfully, I think of him differently after I heard that speech.
He sounded honest and intellectual, and he right about many of his points. The problem is that there is no such dialogue between Charedim and seculars when it actually comes down to business.
uneeqParticipantPopa: “Bear: please explain the smicha reference”
He’s referring to the fact that a judge (one with smicha) can’t pasken after shkia.
uneeqParticipantConfucious: No matter how much I am sure that I am right about the things I comment about, I feel it is all worthless if I don’t get to hear anyones attempts to refute my beliefs. I don’t like living in a bubble, and commenting to myself out loud is IMO, life in one big bubble.
uneeqParticipantI have an idea a bit similar to PBA’s. You invent a cup that has retractable, slide-up sides. You sell the cup as a medium with the sides down, and let the customers figure out on their own that the sides come up to get a fuller cup.
uneeqParticipantApukerma is a pretty decent poster, though I disagree with outlook on the recent elections. I just don’t understand his enjoyment in posting comments that 90% of the time no one responds to.
It’s really annoying; talking to yourself.
January 23, 2013 12:37 pm at 12:37 pm in reply to: Girls in Shidduchim wearing sweatshirts ? #922969uneeqParticipantAddressing the OP- I think it is low class for a girl in shidduchim to wear a sweatshirt while in public. No problem of tznius IMO, but I would probably consider other girls for a shidduch (if all other things are equal) before a sweatshirt bearer.
uneeqParticipantAre they all lying? Is Weberman the only one who speaks the truth??? “
It’s R’ Hoffman’s and the girl’s words against NW’s. R’ Hoffman’s claims that there are other victims does not make it fact. Not taking sides here, I am just uninformed of the evidence that was used to convict NW.

uneeqParticipantI’m gonna re-ask my question- Which one of you mods took my subtitle from a different site and put it on this one?
I’m not involved but I’m happy to change it for you, just let me know what you want.
uneeqParticipantOK, I love my new subtitle, but PLEASE LET ME KNOW- who put it up??
uneeqParticipantR.T. Sephardim and German/Yekke Yidden wear a Tallit from Bar Mitzvah.
Us Sephardim start wearing a tallis from around age 9.
uneeqParticipantHow ’bout
“tummy, tummy, tummy, tummy, tummy besimcha!!” (oy yayoy yayoy!)
Honestly- as I kid I use to think those were those words.
uneeqParticipantoomis: Especially when preceeded by a husband asking his unsmiling wife, “What’s wrong, dear?”
Exactly!
uneeqParticipant..and there’s always
something
behind every
“nothing”
uneeqParticipantPopa is up there.

uneeqParticipantThanks mods!

I doubt it.
uneeqParticipantI proposed with a made up song on the guitar, so I didn’t have to get on one knee. The end of the song was the proposal.
uneeqParticipantActually, it would be 63a, like what Sam said.
uneeqParticipantMy 3rd attempt, here goes….Mods please anoint me as the Official CR Pizza Lover
uneeqParticipant???? ?????, ???? ????
Finish first, explain later.
uneeqParticipantCan’t wait! It’s the only sport that I have still have taiva for.
uneeqParticipantnature: “In America, too, pedestrians in the crosswalk and cars already in the traffic circle have the right of way.”
In my little part of America, crosswalks are only by stop signs and traffic lights, and traffic circles don’t exist.
uneeqParticipantICOT: I finally figured out how to change my name. This is great. I always wanted to be yuneeq and not uneeq but ever since I lost my password, it didn’t let me recover it.
uneeqParticipantOops! You’re right! I forgot that first time tourists have the right to put themselves and others’ lives in danger.
uneeqParticipantMod, I would like to edit “a coupe times, and almost ran over in the crosswalks”
to “a couple times, and almost ran over some people in the crosswalks”
Thanks.
uneeqParticipantI second farina. It is delicious, very filling, and SO CHEAP. You get dozens of serving from one little two dollar box.
uneeqParticipantDY: …and I was responding to tzarichs question.
Unless you are asking me if women are still Jewish- I think they aren’t, but their money surely is.
uneeqParticipantI will come off sounding harsh, though I think its worth it. Raising a kid to be open-minded and worldly, does not have to be done by bringing the kid to a burlesque house. We do not expose our kids to drugs, immorality and things that we believe are bad, just for the sake of having open minded kids. I am comparing these examples to TV not because I believe that TV is just as bad. Rather, your post makes it sound that YOU believe that TV is inherently bad for kids (except for the open-mindedness of it).
Either way, I believe that there are many ways to open a kids mind, and the first way starts with the parents being open minded.
uneeqParticipantI was looking at his profile to see if women are still Jewish. (Seriously, the search engine is horrible around here.)

They assume you’re a guy because girls don’t have 613 mitzvos.

January 2, 2013 11:02 pm at 11:02 pm in reply to: Seminary non returnable application fees!! #917747uneeqParticipantWhy do the Seminaries accept so many applications with the non returnable fees when they know they can only accept only a small amount of the applicants?
If you send me $150, I may or may not be able to your question. Non-refundable, of course.
January 2, 2013 10:08 pm at 10:08 pm in reply to: Picking Up A Neighbor's Phone Calls on a Scanner #917153uneeqParticipantIcot: lol, thanks. Maybe we should start a troll-slaying brigade. 😛
Oh, dang it. I thought I came up with the name and idea on my own. Stupid subconscious…
uneeqParticipantBesalel, Toi: That issue is easily dealt with. Experienced, long time posters, that have an eye for trolls would be in the Troll Slaying Brigade. They would be able to figure out who is trolling for fun and who is trolling lishma.
Oh, and Toi, why take offense when a troll post of yours is labelled as a troll? A troll-post here and there doesn’t (necessarily) make one a troll. A troll could be either the cheftza or the gavra. Or both.

January 2, 2013 9:22 pm at 9:22 pm in reply to: how does Hashem want girls with good voices to use them? #917107uneeqParticipantfrummy: “…the question had nothing to with the gender of the person in question”
Exactly. That’s why I wish the titles of threads were more accurate of the actual discussion. The title makes it sound gender specific. Every time theres a thread like this, I hover over the link trying to remember what was actually being discussed; if it was interesting or not.
Thanks for retracting any harshness that may have been unintended.
TLDR; No personal offense aimed at the OP, but misleading titles are really annoying.
uneeqParticipantOOM: “You should keep in mind that we have no idea what happens behind the scenes – we may only be seeing half of shmendrick’s posts (the others being deleted).”
If 99% of shmendrick’s approved posts are trolls, I don’t care if his total posts are approved 50% or 1% of the time. Just block him. And I thank the mods for finally doing that a few minutes ago. I personally would have done it a month ago.
…it should not be done on the public forum. We all know from experience that it can quickly spiral into some very unpleasant and messy witch-hunts.
You may be right about that. I guess it could done via email with a select few volunteers. Anywho, if it’s possible to go forward with the TSB, I would suggest you, ICOT, and Popa to take up the job among maybe two others.
uneeqParticipantWIY: I think that you are being realistic, though personally I disagree with the amount of time she would have to devote. I think a shiur a week would be sufficient. Though if things get hectic with kids and errands, even once a month would be fine for me.
January 2, 2013 8:03 pm at 8:03 pm in reply to: What did the dirty diaper-throwing individuals hope to accomplish? #917391uneeqParticipantPopa, How DARE you spread such LIES!? They weren’t “shababniks” as you claim, it was OBVIOUSLY charedim in disguise.

January 2, 2013 7:27 pm at 7:27 pm in reply to: how does Hashem want girls with good voices to use them? #917103uneeqParticipantFrummy- “uneeq – While there may be many similarities between the two, there are important differences, especially regarding what the OP was ACTUALLY ASKING. If you people really want to go on some religious tirade, why don’t you start another thread that actually has something to with the thing you’re ranting about?”
I wasn’t ranting nor on some “religious tirade”. It’s wonderful how you saw all that in my brief words.
To answer your main issue: It’s upsetting when an user titles a thread that is completely inaccurate and totally irrelevant to the question posed in the OP. I was answering the ridiculous question posed in the title. The thread should have been titled something like “Opportunities to sing in a non-gaavadik way” or even “For what purpose did Hashem give people good voices?”.
uneeqParticipantMy Rav holds to wait (if possible) until after the first trimester before telling anyone, parents included. He mentioned that it has something to do with ayin hora or whatnot.
January 2, 2013 5:17 pm at 5:17 pm in reply to: how does Hashem want girls with good voices to use them? #917099uneeqParticipant“How does Hashem want girls with good voices to use them?”
How does Hashem want girls with good dance moves to use them?
uneeqParticipantMe neither. Interestingly enough, I stumbled on a blog the other day that explained to me what bageling is (never heard of it before), and in the comments it was suggested that the Israeli version of it should be called sufganiot.
Hence my curiosity.
uneeqParticipantJust wondering Pops- Was this thread inspired by a post on an “out of the box” blog?
uneeqParticipantI say block the troll. He couldn’t even stop himself from trolling in his final thread here.
uneeqParticipantWIY, there’s two squares in town. Kikar zion and crack square.
uneeqParticipantICOT: The parking device you’re suggesting already exists in Israel.
