Dofi: The Rambam in Hilchos Ishus 21:10 is saying that Beis Din can administer corporal punishment to the wife, in such circumstances. NOT that the husband can.

CS: Please do not lookup it Gemora, as the Shulchan Aruch, Rambam and virtually all the Rishonim and Achronim who rule on the subject pasken that girls/women learning Torah Shebal Peh leads to Tiflus, which Rashi explains is immorality. (Something we unfortunately see came all too true, in many of the communities that in recent decades disregarded this Halacha.)

And the psak from the Chofetz Chaim allowing a limited exception due to the fact that many females were going off the derech, specifically did not permit breaching the aforementioned Halacha in regards to teaching girls Mishnayos or Gemorah.

Don’t blame the messenger because you don’t like the message. I didn’t author the Shulchan Aruch OR the Rambam.

AJ: Halacha describes who is an apikorus. There’s morning wrong and everything right with calling out an apikorus as an apikorus. The Chofetz Chaim, the gold standard of what is and isn’t Loshon Hora, clearly paskens that everyone should publicly humiliate an apikorus.

Aseh maat: Sadly, I must admit that your “suspicion” is accurate. I’m sorry for being a man. I’ll try better next time.

Until then I’ll try to remember that men have no right to talk about halachos regarding women. I’ll start correcting this error of thousands of years of male misogyny by going around to all the Butei Medrashim and Yeshivos that I can to confiscate all Seder Noshim in Mishnayos, Mesechtes Sotah in the Gemoras, of course Mishneh Torah Sefer Nashim and all other such Seforim authored exclusively by (yuck) men.

“How is this relevant at all”

It’s directly related. If there’s a proscription of them then being outside in public altogether too much, then kal vchomer you shouldn’t be plastering their pictures all over the place to be displayed 24/7. (Even if you disagree with this very strong correlation, you certainly can’t deny this is at least a strong argument.)

“and what purpose does it have here other than to breed negativity for your entertainment?”

Why would you assume it’s designed to breed negativity, when all that was said was nothing more than a simple Halacha from Shulchan Aruch and Rambam (that is also in the Gemora and throughout the Halacha seforim throughout the generations without anyone making a machlokes against it.) Unless this Halacha makes you uncomfortable.

Halachos don’t make me uncomfortable. You do.

The Rambam paskens that a husband shouldn’t allow allow his wife to leave the house more than once or twice a month. The Shulchan Aruch paskens the same, except instead of giving a specific number (once or twice) he paskens not to allow her out “too much”.
How is this relevant at all and what purpose does it have here other than to breed negativity for your entertainment?

Shlomo: You think that boys and girls violating the halachos regarding the interaction between males and females are mainly transpiring by college age men and women? It’s happening just as much by those in their 30s, 40s, and 50s. A 20-something Chabad “rebbetzin” on campus will not be half as adequate as an experienced Rov or Rebbetzin in their 50s and 60s.

And this isn’t a chabad specialty either. If you’re looking for an okay-man who will assuge you that your aveiros aren’t so bad and everyone else is doing it anyways, so don’t fret over it too much, you can get someone even less judgemental by seeking out a conservative or reform rabbi.

I agree this is more on the parents than on the schools. I don’t know why anyone would expect teachers to be more competent than parents in this regard. If it is a struggle for parents who live with their eight children 24 hours (minus school time), seven days a week for at least the first 18 years of their lives, then even more so for educators who each see dozens and dozens of children for only six hours a day, four or five days a week, for a handful of years.

Also, this isn’t a school rule, this is a Hashem rule.

And if you do go to a Rov or Rebbetzin (which is certainly a good idea), much better a much experienced one than a “young” one. (Calling Reb Shlomo; and it surely shouldn’t be limited to a Chabad one.)

What on earth are you ranting about? What kumzits? What trips to Israel? What stigmatization?

And what excuse does any bochur have to be missing minyanim?

There’s lots and lots and lots of working baalei batim, in case you just landed from Mars and never noticed. No one is stigmatizing those that had gotten a degree or decided to become a working stiff. Last I noticed many many people respect folks in our community who are accountants, bankers, candle stick makers, open a grocery, deal in real estate, computer programmers, sales and manafacturing.

The Agudah long has been offering COPE and PCS. There are other similar services in our communities. There has never been any shame associated with this or with working. Who else is paying Yeshiva tuitions, building Shuls, Butei Medrashim, Chesed organizations (Hatzalah, Bikur Cholims, health organizations, gemachs, etc.)?

Many frum single girls look for working boys.

    What planet are you on?

CTL, I’d consider it a great privilege and something to very much look forward to arranging the opportunity to meet you and your Kallah. Whenever you can arrange that just give me a holler and I’ll start warming up my car.

As you well know I’ve always enjoyed all our conversations; differences of opinions is something more worthwhile having discussions about than simply agreeing on everything. I’m sure you remember Ed Koch’s famous quote that “If you agree with me on nine out of 12 issues, vote for me. If you agree with me on 12 out of 12 issues, see a psychiatrist.” I’m certain as Yiddishe brothers that we agree with each other on something closer to 11 out of 12 issues, even though it is the 1 out of 12 that sucks up all the (enjoyable) airtime.

This isn’t news. The Zionist insured that Gaza, as well as various other parts of Eretz Yisroel, should be Judenrein. The Zionists followed in the footsteps of the National Socialist German Workers’ Party.

DaMoshe: There’s over half a million children in American Yeshivos and Beis Yaakovs. How many children from poor families, even the most poor of the poor, do you know that can’t get into Yeshiva and went to public school because all the Yeshivos denied them due to their inability to pay?

I’m not sure there’s even one out of the half a million plus. It doesn’t happen. If a family has no money, their children still go to Yeshiva.

Do you think that Chazal were unaware of grape juice or wine for Kiddush and meat for your seudos when they told us pas b’melach?

Is Rav Moshe and Rav Ahron, the two greatest Gedolim in America IN OUR GENERATION, chopped liver, in your esteemed opinion?! Or they’re simply not “modern” (to use your above terminology) enough for you?

Dofi: FYI — I’m not a member of Chazal. I promise. I’m not the one who came up with Kach hi darkah shel Torah — pas b’melach tochal.

You’re right, I was off on the percentages. In 1986 (when Rav Moshe was niftar) 23% of men in the US had graduated college. In 2022 36% of men in the US had graduated college. Nevertheless, even now it is a minority who get a degree. Currently, when college is higher than previously, still 2 out 3 American men do not graduate college. There’s no basis to claim one must graduate college in order to make a living. Unless you want to argue the 64% of American men today who never graduated college are not making a living.

Furthermore, as I keep repeating — Kach hi darkah shel Torah — pas b’melach tochal” — bread, salt and water. If you have that, you have parnasah. You might need college if you want to own a Cadillac or Lexus, but you don’t need college to have pas b’melach tochal. And if without college you’ll live in a three bedroom (or less) rented apartment on the third floor, with all five boys sharing one bedroom and the four girls all sharing another, you certainly should choose that over college. Even if you often end up clothing your children in second hand, hand me down, clothing from your sister in law’s children who outgrew those otherwise good apparel.
