it’s the new awareness campaign for pedestrian by new york city’s mayor, promoting ‘awareness of where you are walking’, subconsciously training new yorkers not to step on other people’s feet.

Be Happy – that’s why i read mishpachah junior! 😉

Health- it was not PROMOTING alcoholism. It was simply giving us a glimpse from a yeshiva bochur’s perspective and view on their drinking habits. i personally didn’t AGREE to his assessment, but i feel it was written in a fair and understandable approach. but i wouldn’t call it an article promoting it. i would perhaps call it ‘debunking the myth that yeshiva boys are drunks’

    lol baalhabooze,

i think it will be a nice asifa but i do think it is late in coming. because although they shouted and warned us about the dangers of internet over the years, i think the proper chinuch abilities by many parents were lacking and people underestimated their kids’ weakness vs the powerful yeitzer hara. i bet more than 90% of parents first said ‘not MY kid’ before they went otd. i feel THAT is what should be addressed among other topics.

the greatest mekubal in the Arizal’s times was the Rema”k, R’ Moshe Kordevero zt”l. when he was niftar, the Arizal became the undisputed greatest mekubal of his generation.

the Arizal lived in Tzefat for the latter part of his short life, together with the greatest of greats, including the Alshich hakodosh, the Beis Yosef, the Chareidim, R’ Chaim Vital, among others. The Arizal was so great and so seeped in learning torah, his soul would join the yeshivah shel maalah when he slept. he would learn on one night what would normally take years worth of learning to accomplish when awake. That is the greatness of his talmid R’ Chaim Vital who able to transcribe the lofty, endless teachings of the Arizal.

“The same argument as yours can be (and has been) made for amalgamation/miscegeny. Without the Torah as a guide, there is no reason why anything should be prohibited between consenting adults.”

GAW- you are SO wrong. (up until this recent generation which reached a new low) this was wrong- even in goyim’s eyes- for centuries and centuries, and millenias! why? why do you think they thought it is wrong? they didn’t have the torah as a guideline? the answer is that there is a certain innate moral and ethical behaviour in mankind that dictates right and wrong. How can you say NOTHING should be prohibited between conscenting adults, such as this blatant, perverted, unnatural act?

Gatesheader: “I would even go as far as to say that, that being considered, I don’t even oppose gay marriage. Again: freedom. If they want to do that, let them. Why should I care? Why should I force my views on others? I just don’t care, and I don’t see the problem. I really don’t understand why Americans care so much about this issue in New York at the moment either – what does it matter? Why does it bother you? Let them be happy… it’s their issue, not yours.”

are you serious?! talk about how jews get complacent in this comfortable golus….i mean, how tolerant are you?? do you not have any shame, to just let gay marriage be a part of your society and not care if it’s open?? I don’t know….do you think it’s cool to be so tolerant, or that it’s fine to be so ‘open -minded about other people’s way of life? I know one thing – that is NOT the attitude of a torah jew, i don’t care if you ARE living in a christian country, and that THEY don’t care what YOU do! if a goy does something so abhorrent and abnormal, and yes gay marriage is just that-abnormal, it should NOT be tolerated and implemented in our society. Foooy! Yuuuuch! How can you even suggest that it doesn’t bother you! would you not be bothered by people marrying animals?! Why would you even want to LIVE, and raise your yiddisheh children, and be surrounded by such evil, such tumoh, such sin! it boggles the mind. you obviously have become so callous and insensitive to sin (and yes it is a sin even for goyim)and have no shame not to be bothered at the decadent ways of your neighbors living next door to you. Would you tolerate a goy spraying poison in the air that would C”V blind you? I will stop only because my post is too long.

a year later we went out again, got engaged and are happily married now with kids b”h.

i don’t want to get your hopes up, but the bottom line is Hashem gave me my bashert in its proper time, and not a year earlier.

    in reply to: DREAMS #857049

there are 3 catagories of dreams:

    1) Dreams are messages from Heaven

    2) Dreams are utterly meaningless

    3) Dreams will follow interpretations

Of what purpose is it to dream? Perhaps it is the bastion of the capacity of the human condition to yearn and imagine new heights, to portend our capacities for achievements, for they are apparently limitless. The more one imagines, the more he tries, and nothing stands before the will of a person!

hope this helps….sorry so long 🙂

not to hijack this thread, but here are some answers to your q.

According to some ancient sources, the name Moshe (or Moses) comes from the Egyptian mo (water) and uses (drawn from) (Josephus, Antiquities 2:9:6, Contra Apion 1:31; Philo De Vita Moses 2:17; Malbim).

    “bore”

(See Shmuel 2 22:17, Tehillim 18:12; note on Bereishis 47:11.)

there are six Hebrew letters which have hard and soft forms: Beth-Veth, Gimel, Daleth, Kaph-Chaph, Pay-Fay, Tauv-Thauv.

the rules governing this are extremely technical. But here is a rough rule: If the word Pharoh BEGINS a new sentence or clause then it is pronounced hard (P vs F).

However if Pharoh is a middle or end word in a clause AND ALSO it follows an open syllable (like a word ending in Aleph Hey Vav Yud) then the Pay is pronounced softly (F vs P). The purpose of the soft pronunciation is to facilitate slurring the words of the phrase into one unit (to emphasize the clause as a unit).

this is no doubt my weakest area in yiddishkeit as i too sorely lacked guidance into how to come up with a solution to a halachiq quandary. i obviously would seek out help from my rav first, but when he is unavailable, or im in a rush, i usually would peek into a mishna berura and see what he holds.

otherwise, is it just a big game of ‘who gives the best psaq din’?
