although i love hockey games and have followed my nhl team for years and years, i’ve learned to move on and live life without it. and y’know what………there’s a beautiful life outside of the world of sports that, b”h, i’ve adjusted to, and i busy myself with more important things. this lockout was definitely a good thing for me and my ruchnios, personally.

you also need ou-d to let you know not to mix this product with anything fleishigs (meat) that you are eating, as it would constitute as dairy.

thank you to all who responded and calmed me down with the knowledge that I am in good company with other mental retards as myself…jk!!

    😉

i sometimes feel very stupid not knowing my right and left. last week i had to go to court to fight a traffic ticket, and instead of reviewing and going over what i was going to claim to the judge to exonerate myself, i kept reminding myself which is my right hand, so that when i am sworn in i don’t look like a fool and lift up my left hand. lol!

anyhow, up here in canada we’re enjoying beautiful, mild weather. so aside from all this superstorm news ‘n stuff, some people on this planet are doing pretty good. (could you imagine! there are other cities with real people past those NY bridges??) 😛

hey american neighbours! if you want to visit or move further north where it’s safe and warm, you’re always welcome here!! besides, we could use more people up here to fill our beautiful country!

this is a nice topic, aurora. +1 to you.

here is a thought i had a year ago. sorry i know it’s not a story, but a powerful thought i had.

i sat by a table once, by a modern orthodox wedding, with other chassidish cousins. there were several of us relatives there who were all different types. chassidish, modern orthodox, yeshivish etc. yet everyone was having a great time shmoozing with each other and enjoying each others’ company. it was almost a surreal scene, but it was so beautiful. then i realized something incredible that changed the way i look at yidden. and that is that we pretty much are all the same.

we might dress differently, talk hebrew with different accents, and have a different nussach in davening. but at the end of the day we are all the same. we differ in literally only a handful of mitzvos – but then that’s it! if only we would mingle and shmooze, like we did that wedding night and just get to know each other, we would see how much the same we really are.

the way the question was posed, automatically turned me off for such a shidduch prospective. one of the top priorities datees have on their little list for shidduchim is health, and so one (i know i) would be worried about the health of such a person. depression is a medical issue, and is an illness. this is a fact. it is an illness. so if i have girls -who are healthy- ready to date, and this girl -who is NOT-, why would a boy consider her? is one so wrong for choosing to date the healthy girl?? i think NOT!

i was serious! but i said two things.

    1) i assumed you were asking someone in their right mind

    2) the truth is, and don’t deny it, that you don’t display or expose people’s chesronos who are dating. if you do, there will always be a resounding NO. did i say something false?

syag: “hence the real source of the shidduch crisis. ” huh??

zahavadad: that’s unfair to push people to marry someone with a medical issue! would you push your child into such a marriage because of “the Shidduch crisis”??! I wouldn’t!

having said that, such information SHOULD DEFINITELY BE REVEALED BEFORE A MARRIAGE PROPOSAL i.e. after several dates, where one should take time to weigh the situation: their maalos vs the depression.

i know for myself, in all honesty, (to my everlasting shame,) tend to forget to say a brocha achrona after eating something if i am not eating it by my kitchen/diningroom table.

not ALWAYS. but very very often. i’ll only remember hours later. so i don’t think it’s so much of a problem of mentchlichkeit per se, as it is with actually making our brochos properly. or making our brochos all together. if we eat in the street you also have a problem if you leave the street to enter a reshus hayochid, which no requires one to make a new brocho. (classic example: someone grabs a danish and coffee after shacharis, makes a brocha, takes a bite/sip, then leaves shul goes outside to his car which requires him now to make a new brocha)

i mean, are you serious?! why would someone in their right mind want someone with ANY problem??? NOT to say that people are perfect, and everyone has SOME chessronos, but when displayed out in the open, the answer will always be a resounding NO.

proudjew83 – let’s put the halachic issue aside and look at it ideally.

the fact is that a person doesn’t marry a woman in a vacuum, and the reality is that you marry ‘into a family’. her parents are now your parents (in-laws), with all dinim of kibbud av v’eim, and other halachos that come with it. yes she might be frum and a great girl, etc etc, but the boy also has to now deal with a non-jewish father-in-law which may be a very uncomfortable and sticky situation which one doesn’t necessarly want to put himsef into ??????? (ideally).

welll…(*clears throat, straightens shtreimel*), it really is a difficult level to attain and one seriously needs years of practice in the study of torah, mussar, kabbalah, and also to be tomid b’simchah. But I digress, i don’t want to make the impression that i have reached such a lofty level of kedusha -not that i didn’t, hehe, it’s just my supreme humility of course that is holding me back. but i digress.

r’ orlofsky once said that -generally- the difference between a parent in israel and a parent in america, is how they bring up their child. the parent in america tries his hardest to raise his child to grow up to be an ehrliche yid. the parent in israel raises his kid to be a kodosh.

kudos to Naysberg for his good intentions in raising his child to be, not good, but great.

    otherwise,

we’ve seen a whole slew of stuff

    – first black US president (oh, bomb, aaaaa!),

    – youtube started in, i think, 2005

    – enron filed for chapter 11

    – london subway train bombing

    – micheal jackson died in 2009

    – bernie madoff ponzi scheme

    – war on iraq

but on a more jewish level

    – mesifta gemoras

    – oiz v’hadar gemoras

    – artscroll completes the schottenstein shas

    – 2005, 11th siyum hashas

    – and of course the invention of the all-important, world famous Kosherlamp!
