Mod-80: Do you know which daf (or Perek/Mesechta)?
TumsMemberSam: You haven’t addressed gregaaron’s point early in the thread where he said:
Actually, I think we hold that purely al pi halacha, there is no reason that he CAN’T divorce her (last mishna in Gittin). It’s strongly discouraged, of course, but there’s a 3-way machlokes and I think we go the third way.
TumsMemberAre witnesses necessary to carry out a death sentence for adultery? It is almost implausible for that to occur, as it is a private act.
TumsMembertryinghard: How old was that child?
TumsMemberThe Holy Roman Empire was essentially Germany.
TumsMemberI will say I would rather break shabbos and get an averia so that someone does not fall or get hurt. Let hashem decide if I was right or wrong.
If you are wrong (which it seems you are), you get the death penalty.
TumsMemberWhen we were younger we thought it would be a nuclear war (c”v) between the U.S. and the Soviet Union.
TumsMemberDoes Shulchan Aruch state that under certain circumstances a wife may be moredes?
TumsMemberKuntres Tiferes Odom Ch. 6 (in Kol Kisvey Chofetz Chaim).

September 15, 2011 7:46 pm at 7:46 pm in reply to: Rep. Henry Waxman enforcing anti-semitic stereotypes #809829TumsMemberTypical Democrat anti-semite. The party of anti-semites like Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and Cynthia McKinney.
TumsMemberHow is the citation of the Sefer Chofetz Chaim Ch. 6 on lo yilbash out of context? And if the S”A permits trimming by a mustache, the implication would be it is different (i.e. not permitted) by a beard.

TumsMemberAnd what do you call, for example, Torah V’Daas or Beis HaTalmud alumni?
TumsMemberbm: Yeshiva Chofetz Chaim isn’t Chareidi??
TumsMemberGoyim can work the grid.
TumsMemberIs the tefilla more effective when it is deeper?
TumsMemberpba: No reason to suspect her husband. He is probably another of her victims.
TumsMemberIf it is expensive, why don’t the first responders get much less expensive cherry lights instead of all the fancy LED stuff?
TumsMemberbm: There’s no sakanas nefashos for primarily yehudim.
zd: Even in a Chareidi society (i.e. when the Beis HaMikdash was standing) there are non-Jews around who can do certain tasks that are prohibited for a Jew to do on Shabbos.
TumsMemberSam: What is missing?
TumsMemberColombian: I must commend you on your good taste in choosing an appropriate sweater promoting the place we all love.
TumsMembersqueak: I was trying to understand your point that the free market would allow 10 times the price. If that be the case, why would OPEC not take advantage of the higher price the market would bear.
TumsMemberThey’re normal. Otherwise they’d be marching in the pride parade. But they’re bad.
TumsMemberDoes the one you are peer advising use deodorant?
September 14, 2011 8:27 pm at 8:27 pm in reply to: NOT TZNIUS "BUBBIES" (also some fish, honey, and vinegar) #1200258TumsMemberIf the sheva mitzvos bnei noach have to do with torah, then democracy fits in to #7.
Using that logic you can equally say in North Korea that the hereditary communist dictatorship fits into the Torah.
In any event, halacha alwaya takes precedence when there is a conflict.
TumsMemberThe chatty unmarried ones aren’t any better.
TumsMemberMarried to a doctor? So there’s the answer. He is being checked out!
TumsMemberOOT is lifeless.
TumsMembersqueak: So why, then, does the OPEC cartel have to take action to artificially raise prices at times?
September 14, 2011 7:21 pm at 7:21 pm in reply to: NOT TZNIUS "BUBBIES" (also some fish, honey, and vinegar) #1200222TumsMemberyichus: Democracy has nothing to do with Judaism or the Torah.
September 14, 2011 4:46 pm at 4:46 pm in reply to: NOT TZNIUS "BUBBIES" (also some fish, honey, and vinegar) #1200205TumsMemberCertainly not degenerate Western standards.
September 14, 2011 4:18 pm at 4:18 pm in reply to: NOT TZNIUS "BUBBIES" (also some fish, honey, and vinegar) #1200200TumsMemberNo, Raphael Kaufman. In an ideal situation, halacha is enforced by court.
TumsMemberAnd how do the snobby folks associate that with Food Stamps, Medicaid, and Welfare?
September 14, 2011 3:19 pm at 3:19 pm in reply to: NOT TZNIUS "BUBBIES" (also some fish, honey, and vinegar) #1200191TumsMembermdd is 100% correct. The pritzus rampant in Western Society is the polar opposite of the Torah.
TumsMemberSam2: IOW, you are trying to tell us that Rav Moshe was only against boy/girl relationships cause Rav Moshe was a New Yorker?
And out-of-towners are better at maintaining so-called “platonic relationships”?
I must admit I got a good chuckle out of those theories.
September 12, 2011 10:00 pm at 10:00 pm in reply to: I am the youngest on the CR anyone nearly 13 and a half?? #811288TumsMemberI’m 7.
TumsMemberhello: Perhaps the fundamental point Rav Elyashev used to prohibit it is the same as the fundamental point the Chofetz Chaim used to prohibit it. Otherwise, why not clarify the point with Rav Elyashev?
TumsMemberOnly a “life coach” is qualified to give relationship advice.
TumsMemberbpt is correct that girls shouldn’t dress to be attractive, but is mistaken that that alone will keep the guys ay bay. It will help, but there will still be problems.

September 12, 2011 4:32 pm at 4:32 pm in reply to: Washing negel vasser before getting out of bed #1090508TumsMemberold man: In America and Eretz Yisroel people are also very makpid to have water and a basin next to the bed.
TumsMemberUnfortunately, expect your next job to have similar issues as well.
All jobs have this problem?
TumsMembermommamia22: Are you seriously suggesting that you are taking “virtual” advice from anonymous members of the cyber community over the assistance provided to you in real life? And you are assuming these anonymous posters have “more life experience” even though for all you know they may be 15 year old adolescents pretending to be 60 year old professors or grandparents — all while having a good time projecting their false virtual image to boot? And on as serious an issue as to leaving a marriage? Really?
TumsMemberI think many of the poskim in EY (Chazon Ish, Rav Kanievsky, Rav Elyashev, etc.) are opposed to shaving b’chlal.
TumsMemberBy goyim (unlike yidden) even the thought of planning to do an aveira that they never did, they are culpable for it.
TumsMemberGedolim can tell us the reason for a tragedy.
TumsMemberEver notice how atheists suddenly cry out to G-d when they are dying?
TumsMemberAgreed. (With both ICOT & 80.) Although I would add the parents bear the primary responsibility for it.
TumsMemberICOT: I always thought it was the parents duty to be mechanech the boys in middos.
