You have the history of Selective Service all wrong. We were never facing invasion when the SS system started and the President was elected on the claim that he will keep the US out of war.

Secondly, we fought the British in 1813 because they kept impressing US sailors on the grounds that they are really British.

Not to get off-topic, but if we do go off the cliff, then the opposite of what the GOP wants will happen. Once we go off the cliff, it’s the President’s responsibility to prioritize the bills. He will determine which bills to pay and which to postpone.

Of course. It’s past nisht for a GRAND rebbe to fly commercial. Only baby-grands fly commercial. Obviously you’re an apikorus so you wouldn’t understand.

Did R’ Shlomo Zalman Auerback sit on an egged bus? No, he used personal jetpacks. Did R’ Moshe use cars? No, he used Starfleet site-to-site transporters. Do you expect the GRAND rebbe to do anything less than fly a private jet to Miami, IH”K?

That technically was not a tax increase. That was the resumption of the current payroll tax. Beforehand, there was a holiday on the payroll tax and only half was charged.

Why do people keep stating that R’ YBS invented Modern Orthodoxy? It was flourishing well before he came to the US.

And, for the record, R’ Samson Raphael Hirsch “invented” modern Orthodoxy, and ALL of us practice it in one way or another.

I just want to chime in with a little anecdote of my own. When I was in high school, one kid brought in a gun to school. He brought it in to show us. We all snuck up to his locker and took a peek.

In hindsight, we were lucky because the guy was a crazy person.

Perhaps the rabbi meant that all DD’s in Brooklyn are OK for donuts since all the donuts come from one place.

That MIGHT be acceptable. But to say that all DD’s are OK is not OK. The oils used might not be kosher, and that is just off the top of my head.

Someone mentioned homeschooling, and that is indeed an interesting option. There are some communities where many people do that, but it has its own challenges.

I could also see yeshiva-only schools charge more if homeschooling becomes popular, because the schools would lose some funding that does not come from the State such as Federal programs to combat drugs, which is how many yeshivas fund their libraries, etc.

Most people would be more inspired about a kid who was a troublemaker or not really interested in anything and then turned his life around and became a gadol.

It’s a shame a book like that was banned around 15 years ago.

It depends if you’re not challenging him politely on something he said. If you grovel, then you might get a response.

At least that is what happened in one famous case quite a few years back when someone politely mailed him a letter asking for clarification on something he said. That person is still waiting for a response.

gotbeer, the person lied to you. I don’t even know who you are talking about, but I am 100% certain that he lied. No person, let alone a gadol, will walk to the hospital after a heart attack. What you are saying is such a negative on R’ Shmuel.

“R’ Shmuel had a heart attack on shabbos and walked to Maomonidies , a good 1 to 2 hour walk.”

I doubt it. He was a smart man, he knew to call an ambulance when you have a heart attack. Stop spreading rumors about a gadol.

There is a difference to MBP and MBTube. Many/Most (contrary to what you read in the YWN) frum jews do MBT because they know that there is a health benefit to metzitzah, but the benefit is negated when you do it MBP. The “halacha” is do to metzitzah, but if it’s safer to do it with a tube, now that 1) we invented tubes and 2) we know that there is a (slim) possibility of transferring diseases we don’t need to do it b’peh.

    Englishman,

You would be correct for Florida, many second marriages are done there. However, in NYS it is illegal to marry someone even religiously without a marriage license.

    1) MBP is not a requirement for milah, around 250 years ago there were rabbonim who were against it and telling people to use tubes/pipettes.

    2) If MBP is not a requirement, then if there is a backlash against milah causing health issues/deaths, then it makes sense to stop a practice that is not required so it gets people off our backs.

    3) The Constitution is not at issue here. It is against the law to bring human sacrifices, even if it is part of some religions. If something causes harm/death, then the 1st Amendment will not protect you.

    4) As for your claim that most/many do perform MBP, I can only tell you that you are mistaken. I can’t reveal identities, so I can only urge you to actually speak to rabbanim. I have. Only chassidim and a few hard-core UOJ-RW-etc. do MBP. IIRC, even Briskers do not do MBP.

    5) I stand by my claim that calling this the worst gezeirah is stupid, it is.

The Agudah should have kept their mouth shut.

    1) MOST/MANY Jews do not do MBP, they do MBTube.

    2) EVEN IF you hold that MBP is required what harm is there in notification?

The city is not forbidding it, they are stating that if you want to do it, then you need consent. I see nothing wrong with that.

The Rebbe’s statement that there hasn’t been a gezeirah like this since the Inquisition is pure stupidity and negates anything positive he may have also said.

The only thing that the Agudah will end up accomplishing is ruining milah for the rest of the frum Jews.

If you send a certified letter “giving permission” to put that fence up, that is all you need to prevent that from passing to his property. If you do nothing, after X amount of years (every state is different) that property becomes his.
