You have the history of Selective Service all wrong. We were never facing invasion when the SS system started and the President was elected on the claim that he will keep the US out of war.
Secondly, we fought the British in 1813 because they kept impressing US sailors on the grounds that they are really British.
January 20, 2013 10:26 pm at 10:26 pm in reply to: Missing cell phone- Facebook Security says its in Bnei Brak? #921173truthsharerMemberYes, it’s on the sidewalk.
truthsharerMemberTell that to the person counting how many pages Ami publishes each week.
truthsharerMemberA better question is what bracha is said for a papaya.
truthsharerMemberNot to get off-topic, but if we do go off the cliff, then the opposite of what the GOP wants will happen. Once we go off the cliff, it’s the President’s responsibility to prioritize the bills. He will determine which bills to pay and which to postpone.
truthsharerMemberIn this case, the tax went back to the original rate for SS and Medicare. I’m not sure about anything else.
truthsharerMemberOf course. It’s past nisht for a GRAND rebbe to fly commercial. Only baby-grands fly commercial. Obviously you’re an apikorus so you wouldn’t understand.
Did R’ Shlomo Zalman Auerback sit on an egged bus? No, he used personal jetpacks. Did R’ Moshe use cars? No, he used Starfleet site-to-site transporters. Do you expect the GRAND rebbe to do anything less than fly a private jet to Miami, IH”K?
truthsharerMemberThat technically was not a tax increase. That was the resumption of the current payroll tax. Beforehand, there was a holiday on the payroll tax and only half was charged.
truthsharerMemberIf it was indeed assur to post negative reviews, it would also be assur to post positive reviews.
truthsharerMemberThere is a health risk with everything.
truthsharerMemberexcept he’s correct.
For all time that has been the set in stone opinion of Jewish law.
Only fairly recently has some people changing conversion well after the fact.
truthsharerMemberand it’s more than one person singing at the same time, so kol isha may not necessarily apply.
January 4, 2013 7:43 pm at 7:43 pm in reply to: Where to buy organic apples for a decent price in Brooklyn? #917461truthsharerMemberPenn&Teller did an episode on organic food. It’s not kosher viewing, so maybe just listen, but they totally destroy the organic market. They interviewed food experts, had taste tests, etc.
truthsharerMemberUnited doesn’t fly Airbus to Israel, they fly a Boeing 777. El-Al is still mostly on a 747 so it’s an older layout.

December 20, 2012 11:54 pm at 11:54 pm in reply to: Shocking Study of Modern Orthodox OTD Rate #941698truthsharerMemberYou’re stating that only YU and TUM represents MO. That is not correct.
December 20, 2012 9:49 pm at 9:49 pm in reply to: Shocking Study of Modern Orthodox OTD Rate #941696truthsharerMemberWhy do people keep stating that R’ YBS invented Modern Orthodoxy? It was flourishing well before he came to the US.
And, for the record, R’ Samson Raphael Hirsch “invented” modern Orthodoxy, and ALL of us practice it in one way or another.
December 18, 2012 10:26 pm at 10:26 pm in reply to: Shocking Study of Modern Orthodox OTD Rate #941659truthsharerMemberBecause YWN gets paid per ad impression. This site would show naked pictures of women if the people here would want that.
MODERATORS NOTE: Actually, YWN does not get paid per impression.
December 18, 2012 8:20 pm at 8:20 pm in reply to: WAKE UP!! Our Yeshivas & Schools Are Open To The Public!! #913748truthsharerMemberI just want to chime in with a little anecdote of my own. When I was in high school, one kid brought in a gun to school. He brought it in to show us. We all snuck up to his locker and took a peek.
In hindsight, we were lucky because the guy was a crazy person.
December 11, 2012 4:47 pm at 4:47 pm in reply to: Why Hasn't YWN Reported The Webberman Trial? #912219truthsharerMemberImanonov,
Based on your post, I think it would be a good idea for you to learn hilchos Lashan Harah. While you’re at it, you can ask your rov about guilty/not guilty thresholds in a Beis Din.
December 11, 2012 1:36 am at 1:36 am in reply to: Yasher Koach to Rabbi Horowitz of Project Yes, for protecting and not punishing #912547truthsharerMemberIf Satmar doesn’t have much faith in the justice system, why are the rebbes fighting in the justice system?
truthsharerMemberPerhaps the rabbi meant that all DD’s in Brooklyn are OK for donuts since all the donuts come from one place.
That MIGHT be acceptable. But to say that all DD’s are OK is not OK. The oils used might not be kosher, and that is just off the top of my head.
truthsharerMemberSomeone mentioned homeschooling, and that is indeed an interesting option. There are some communities where many people do that, but it has its own challenges.
I could also see yeshiva-only schools charge more if homeschooling becomes popular, because the schools would lose some funding that does not come from the State such as Federal programs to combat drugs, which is how many yeshivas fund their libraries, etc.
truthsharerMemberI’m not sure, but judging from some posts here, it should be for someone who will put a focus on education.
October 29, 2012 4:54 am at 4:54 am in reply to: Please be careful everyone on the East Coast! #901164truthsharerMemberThe issue is not necessarily the rain, it’s the sustained winds. It’s not a matter of hours, it’s a matter of DAYS. Even sturdy trees may not survive a day or two of 50+ MPH winds.
truthsharerMemberhakatan: “Since in MO periodicals, it is perfectly normal to read reviews about bars “
It’s funny because the yeshivish think it’s a halacha to start their relationship in a bar.
As for saying things are 100% assur, people far greater than you have said otherwise.
truthsharerMemberBecause it will draw more visitors to this site, which in turn increases ad impressions on this site.
October 23, 2012 11:38 pm at 11:38 pm in reply to: Shocking Study of Modern Orthodox OTD Rate #941401truthsharerMemberIs there a “Simcha Bunim” Pruzansky to speak about the RW OTD problem?
truthsharerMemberMost people would be more inspired about a kid who was a troublemaker or not really interested in anything and then turned his life around and became a gadol.
It’s a shame a book like that was banned around 15 years ago.
truthsharerMemberIt depends if you’re not challenging him politely on something he said. If you grovel, then you might get a response.
At least that is what happened in one famous case quite a few years back when someone politely mailed him a letter asking for clarification on something he said. That person is still waiting for a response.
truthsharerMembergotbeer, the person lied to you. I don’t even know who you are talking about, but I am 100% certain that he lied. No person, let alone a gadol, will walk to the hospital after a heart attack. What you are saying is such a negative on R’ Shmuel.
truthsharerMember“R’ Shmuel had a heart attack on shabbos and walked to Maomonidies , a good 1 to 2 hour walk.”
I doubt it. He was a smart man, he knew to call an ambulance when you have a heart attack. Stop spreading rumors about a gadol.
September 22, 2012 5:14 pm at 5:14 pm in reply to: NYC Board of Health Votes to Regulate Bris Milah #1096325truthsharerMemberThere is a difference to MBP and MBTube. Many/Most (contrary to what you read in the YWN) frum jews do MBT because they know that there is a health benefit to metzitzah, but the benefit is negated when you do it MBP. The “halacha” is do to metzitzah, but if it’s safer to do it with a tube, now that 1) we invented tubes and 2) we know that there is a (slim) possibility of transferring diseases we don’t need to do it b’peh.
September 19, 2012 10:59 am at 10:59 am in reply to: NYC Board of Health Votes to Regulate Bris Milah #1096243truthsharerMemberEnglishman,
You would be correct for Florida, many second marriages are done there. However, in NYS it is illegal to marry someone even religiously without a marriage license.
September 18, 2012 5:19 pm at 5:19 pm in reply to: NYC Board of Health Votes to Regulate Bris Milah #1096230truthsharerMemberEnglishman, To go even more OT, there is indeed a legal requirement to obtain a civil license before a clergy can marry a couple, at least in NYC, not sure of the rest of NYS.
September 16, 2012 8:22 am at 8:22 am in reply to: NYC Board of Health Votes to Regulate Bris Milah #1096219truthsharerMemberIf you want people to take your arguments seriously, you first have to stop claiming “a few thousand years.”
September 15, 2012 8:34 pm at 8:34 pm in reply to: NYC Board of Health Votes to Regulate Bris Milah #1096208truthsharerMemberPBA,
The DOH is not the one falsifying information.
truthsharerMemberWe don’t have to go back a thousand years to Rashi to see how this works. How many Ashkenazim don’t eat corn on Pesach due to kitniyos concerns?
truthsharerMemberMORIS,
Why is it apikorsis to say that Rashi didn’t know Spanish? He most likely didn’t. Why would he?
September 13, 2012 7:16 pm at 7:16 pm in reply to: Sanz-Klausenberg Rebbe Speaks Out Forcefully Against NYC Health Department #896815truthsharerMember1) MBP is not a requirement for milah, around 250 years ago there were rabbonim who were against it and telling people to use tubes/pipettes.
2) If MBP is not a requirement, then if there is a backlash against milah causing health issues/deaths, then it makes sense to stop a practice that is not required so it gets people off our backs.
3) The Constitution is not at issue here. It is against the law to bring human sacrifices, even if it is part of some religions. If something causes harm/death, then the 1st Amendment will not protect you.
4) As for your claim that most/many do perform MBP, I can only tell you that you are mistaken. I can’t reveal identities, so I can only urge you to actually speak to rabbanim. I have. Only chassidim and a few hard-core UOJ-RW-etc. do MBP. IIRC, even Briskers do not do MBP.
5) I stand by my claim that calling this the worst gezeirah is stupid, it is.
September 12, 2012 7:25 pm at 7:25 pm in reply to: Sanz-Klausenberg Rebbe Speaks Out Forcefully Against NYC Health Department #896807truthsharerMemberThe Agudah should have kept their mouth shut.
1) MOST/MANY Jews do not do MBP, they do MBTube.
2) EVEN IF you hold that MBP is required what harm is there in notification?
The city is not forbidding it, they are stating that if you want to do it, then you need consent. I see nothing wrong with that.
The Rebbe’s statement that there hasn’t been a gezeirah like this since the Inquisition is pure stupidity and negates anything positive he may have also said.
The only thing that the Agudah will end up accomplishing is ruining milah for the rest of the frum Jews.
truthsharerMemberNaysberg, the RCA was founded in 1935.

May 18, 2012 5:13 am at 5:13 am in reply to: property lines – who in the city can solve issues #876012truthsharerMemberIf you send a certified letter “giving permission” to put that fence up, that is all you need to prevent that from passing to his property. If you do nothing, after X amount of years (every state is different) that property becomes his.

truthsharerMemberkfb, where in the Constitution does it mention gay marriage and being illegal?
truthsharerMemberSO when they walk in the muddy roads only their socks get dirty and not their pants. It’s easier to clean and cheaper to replace than pants.
truthsharerMemberRIETS has first, second, third, etc. seder.
I’m also not 100% certain that based on your posts here a Brisk bachur would even go out with you.
truthsharerMembersuperlamdon,
RIETS is not the “collage.” RIETS is part of YU but is independent in thought and it most certainly is a yeshivah, with a nice kollel as well.
truthsharerMemberREITS is not “really” a brisk, but the derech halimud is the same, since that was the derech of the last major Rosh Hayeshivah.
