Many rabbanim who don’t know week just assur it. That’s what many people want anyway. Others are waiting to see what people do and then issue their ruling accordingly. That’s why some flip flop year to year.

Actually, if you ask rabbi Belsky, he will tell you that you’re in the middle of nowhere, you can buy plain bagels in any store.

No, they wouldn’t. They would just put up a “Sorry, no more muffins.”

To do otherwise would be risking their entire business.

Other than the government, you don’t mess with a franchiser. They will destroy you if you cross them.

The kashrus organizations are trying to make us forget that halachically we are not worried about half the things we worry about.

Why isn’t coffee or chocolate considered kitniyos?

daniela, Just a question, are you aware that peanuts and peanut products were kosher for Pesach and widely available, and indeed R’ Moshe says that peanuts are NOT kitniyos. I wonder why people “didn’t ask a rav” and decided that peanuts are kitniyos.

While keeping minhag is fine, Pesach also has a “competitive” (for lack of a better word) part to it. There is a thing called Chumra creep and it might not be the best thing in the world. We’ve seen it over the past 50 years with tefillin and kashrus and maybe people want to stop it from getting too much.

    1) It’s not chametz.

    2) It’s not kitniyos because:

    a) It’s a berry.

    b) We are not allowed to add on to a gezeirah.

    3) The only reason why American corn (maize) is considered kitniyos is because European corn is 100% chametz (it’s oats, barley, etc.)

It’s called Trespass to Chatel and it is most certainly actionable.

Although a rav I spoke with once said that it’s preferable under halacha to either smash the car out of the way or have it towed and not even deal with civil authority.

You can go back earlier than Yaakov. In Chayei Sarah, Yitzchok saw Rivkah and it sais “he loved her.”

oh brother, what he, and others in his situation, should do is take their family and waltz into their rabbis house and tell them their moving in. If enough people get through to their leaders, maybe their leaders will listen to them and not only to their handlers.

ZD, the Prohibition Amendment clearly spelled out religious exemptions, so it was not necessary to go to the First Amendment.

As far as underage drinking, the First will not help. Religion may trump some laws, but it doesn’t trump personal safety laws.

Shein, you keep mentioning welfare, especially in the US, but the US has enacted welfare reform years ago. A person cannot be on welfare his whole life. It’s now illegal, and if you just want to sit all day and watch TV you’ll see that eventually you will stop getting your welfare checks.

It’s one thing to be in favor of Charedim sitting and learning all day, but it’s quite another to not even see that the other side has extremely valid points. I bet if you acknowledge those points and try to work it out, it will be a lot easier. People who don’t even get acknowledged are far less likely to work with you to resolve an issue. It’s time for the Charedi leaders to act like leaders and realize there is a communal problem of money.

So, Eisav soneh es Yaakov only applies to Charedim, like Weberman, Rubashkin, etc. But when it comes to Zionists, then the reason why the arabs hate us is because of the Zionists??

It’s really sad when you read comments here from people who clearly could use some proper education in the subject and not the bits and pieces they pick up in yeshivah.

Well, if he was the first one to go around and make standardized spellings and it was followed after he did it, then it stands to reason that he got it correctly. I’m not sure why someone would then decide to change spellings, even if they feel it might be more grammatically correct, it’s irrelevant. They are changing the way people spelled things for many years and are introducing doubt in the way cities are spelled.

How were gittin done before BMG setup shop?

Interesting side fact, Isaac Leeser went around and setup the proper spellings of US cities so that gittin (and other documents) would be uniform. I’m not sure why, but many people, most often chassidim, decided to change some of the established spellings.

I was on my cellphone walking and I just returned a rental car, so I was checking my pockets to make sure I didn’t leave anything. I could not find my phone in my pocket and started to get nervous that I left my phone in the car. It took a second or two to realize that I was actually using the phone and it was safely near my ear.

IF the whole class is actually on your side then you could up the action. When this teacher enters the room, the whole class can just get up and leave. That is one way for the staff to actually deal with a situation.

7-11 is not impacted by the law. The NY Times did a video thingy on the law and how absurd it is and how only specific instances are illegal. So if you can’t buy it in one store, just go next door and buy it.

Also, if you don’t want Charedim to be drafted into the army, that is fine. They can do national service instead. You certainly can’t have anything against people helping out hospitals?

When you just start the car use recycled air until it warms up a bit and then switch to fresh air. Also, don’t use the bi-level, stick to feet only, hot air rises and it will be hotter from the foot vents than the top vents.

    1) When you say Torah world, you mean Charedi.

    2) Yesh Atid is not anti-religious, they might be anti-charedi but more likely is anti-handouts. They are now one of the most diverse MK’s. More worrisome with them winning is their make a deal with terrorists platform.

Whether UTJ stays at 6 or goes up 1 or down 1, the next Knesset will most likely have more religious representation than ever before. Many frum Jews who voted Likud or even YB are now finding that a vote for BH is not a wasted vote. I doubt the newer parties, Amnon Yitzchak’s, Am Shalem or NaNach will go over the threshold.

If he doesn’t want you to work there, is he working himself so you don’t have to or is he finding you somewhere else?

To all the people who say that “you shouldn’t work there,” I say too, bad. It’s probably a blessing that you have a job. I’d be willing to take a job at a garbage dump if they had one available. Jobs are at a premium and people should just stop judging.

If you have co-workers, you have to invite them to the wedding. You certainly don’t want to come back to work and have them all hate you.

Another reason why they weren’t as vocal was because the charedim themselves weren’t as vocal about things. Once they started to shove, the rest pushed back.

My opinion is that UTJ and Shas will both lose seats. Many people are disenfranchised with UTJ, especially after comments made by UTJ ministers made it clear that “regular” charedim are not UTJ’s issue. They will most likely go to Bayit Hayehudi, now that BH actually has a fighting chance of being a strong party.
