Jothar, so why did R’ Elchonon Wasserman turn down visas for him and his ENTIRE yeshiva?

    jpohone,

When the anti-Eruv people put out a rebuttal brochure (and it was more of a “you bums” than a point by point rebuttal), there was a factually incorrect statement in there by R’ Feinstein. I do not know if he was fed it or was just mistaken.

Dr. P. has it right. You can explain if you want to, or we can wait and see if people can figure out why, once they know the answer.

    MM,

Again, that’s untrue. Are you aware that the World Agudah voted in favor of the Peel Commission? Europe was not 100% anti-Zionist, they weren’t 100% pro-zionist either, but to state that they were ALL anti-Zionist is just false.

MM, if you’re going to quote me, at least quote my exact words.

I’ll paste them here so you don’t have to go looking for them:

Joseph, quoting perfidy and R' Miller's book is not the same as quoting actual fact based books. QED.

No. I don’t need to. R’ Miller’s books are not history books and it wasn’t written as a history book, so why would I ever need to apologize?

MM, was R’ Miller writing a history book? No, so why is it not OK to say that I’ll take my history on the Holocaust from those who went through it?

MM, when did I call R’ Miller a liar?

And the fact is that R’ Hutner used to quote R’ Kook often, and received haskamos from him. Now, R’ Kook became a boogieman in the Yeshiva world so there’s this movement to distance R’ Hutner from R’ Kook. Ask the Fruchthandlers how much they would pay for the original sefarim that still have R’ Kook’s haskamah in it.

    MM,

You think he didn’t know those points before? He disagreed, but he acquiesced to R’ Hutner’s opinion.

    Sammygol,

Correct, but that doesn’t negate the fact that CB and YTV were going to create a college.

    Feif Un,

Related to the Y-Z partnership, I saw a pshat (forgot where) that it wasn’t what we thing it was. It was rather a partnership that Z would go out further to trade, make more money but be away from home, but at least allowing Y to work only locally and not make as much but be allowed to be home more often and learn more.

A different twist which I found interesting.

MM, you are incorrect. Chaim Berlin and Torah Vodaas together were going to create an actual degree earning college. They even filed papers with the NYS Regents. It was only after R’ Kotler voiced his opposition did the plan go away.

MM and FU, R’ Hutner was a talmid muvhak of R’ Kook and shared his hashkafos on many things. It was only when it became politically incorrect to be associated with R’ Kook that R’ Hutner started to distance himself. That is why in reprints of his sefarim you will see a missing space for the haskamah of R’ Kook.

    Joseph,

Did you recall there was a famous picture of the CC sitting at a train station published in some biography? On the internet someone posted the original picture which included his wife standing around.

I hate to break the news to you but Lita was not what you imagine it to be.

    Joseph,

There is a famous story with the Chafetz Chaim. A chassidishe rebbe (forgot who, very famous) was going to be in town for Shabbos and asked to stay by the CC, but he said that he’d appreciate if the men and women ate separately. The CC wrote back that he is more than welcome to come, but in his house the family eats together on Shabbos.

    Joseph,

If it’s a clear cut halacha why did the MB need to include the scenario? He could have just written, “You need to wear a hat to daven.”

Instead, he wrote “in our days we meet royalty with a hat, so too, we wear a hat to daven.”

That means that in our days where we specifically DON’T wear a hat, you don’t need to (or even, shouldn’t, if you want) wear a hat to daven.

Furthermore, I do agree that for kiruv sometimes we put somethings aside to maintain the more important matters. means that it’s not halacha because you don’t just change halacha for kiruv purposes.

    Joseph,

If a baby were born on Shabbos in the 8th month of pregnancy, will you abide by the Shulchan Aruch’s ruling? Or will you realize that the situation has changed and act accordingly.

Logically, if someone says do X because of Y, that means when Y is not the case, you don’t have to do X.

    Joseph,

I disagree. The benefit of a mother being there for the children, and not at work is far, far greater than you can imagine. Being raised by a sitter is not proper chinuch. This is just one more thing that might be hurting children and leading them astray.
