Same here, only yom kipur! sometimes not even that!

Every year before yom kipur, I call my rav (weismandl) and ask if I’m ‘allowed’ to fast. Whenever there’s a tiny thing about my health (eg, preg, nursing, after my operation, etc) he doesn’t let, he says just to take ‘shiurim’.

I also was sure everybody does the same, but I see I made a mistake!

About those comments of ‘you’re so lucky you can eat’, in the beginning, I was furious, but I got used to that, i don’t even hear it anymore! As they say in yiddish “az m’geveint zich in tsures, lebt men in freidn”. I know it’s not such a bad ‘tsure, but you get what I’m talking about, hopefully!

cofeefan, it was in the ami 2 weeks ago, but I never saw it, as it doesn’t arrive here. I wrote about keeping it a secret and shiduchim, but Meisels had me change that, he says it can be bad for others shiduchim…so I had to listen, right ;-)?

I also wrote about complications, but again, he told me to take it away, so I did!

And btw, I think I’ll be the only one from belgium!

rebbetsin, watch out!doing exercise without insuline in your body, will do the opposite, it raises your bg!

I hed such experience, and it was confirmed by rav meisels.

wow people! I wasn’t here for a few weeks, just popped in for a few min, but needed a lot more time to read, but it payd! It gives me chizuk to see people in the same situation going up and down… and even making fun of it!

First, welcome to our 2 new members sweettooth and princess.

dx3, and princess, thanks for the nice poems, it indeed made me in a better mood!

dx3 and reb, your attitude is great! keep it up!hope it rubs of on all of us!

Now about me,I have type 1 for 27 years already, am on the accu-chech spiri tpomp. the cgm is not approved here yet, and I’m not willing to pay for it…

After my second baby, I gained a lot and after my third more, so I developed type 2 as well. There was a point where I took 150 units a day + glucophage and still was 300 the whole day…

So my dr and me decided to operate, because , as you all know, for us it’s harder to lose, so 2 years ago I did the gastric by-pass, lost 75 pounds + the type 2, and now I learned how to count carbs, before, it just didn’t pay the effort…

My a1c dropped ’till 6.3, and as you all know already, I got a green light for a pregnancy b”h! But, it’s almost a year, and … nothing!!!!The last few weeks, I just gave up! I can’t anymore! I know I’ll have to be sooooo strict for 9 months, and now it’s adding up 1 month after the other… with nothing!!!

I try keeping low, but no patience to count…

Sorry for the long post, but thanks for letting me vent to people who truly understand me…

Cofeefan, you never heard of alcohol dangerously lowering your bg?

and not reacting to glucagon? It has nothing to do with sweet or dry wine, it’s the alcohol!

Health, where are you? can you please help with the explanation?

In time everything makes sense, if It doesn’t , it’s not time yet”

You can avoid reality, but you cannot avoid the consequences of avoiding reality

there are people who see Torah as a legal system with 613 “problems” to solve, rather than as a gift from Hashem to tell us the best way to lead our lives.

He?!? did I hear good? go for it and have fun? Are you taking the responsebilty of him going into a coma because of the alcohol?!?

I would be afraid to say that…

Btw, did all of you see the discussion rav meisels had with a reporter? I think we all have to back him!He has a few strong points that the world has to hear!( I saw it in his yahoo group)

It’s about type1 and shidduchim, and that no good can come out of someone writing bad about us…, go and read it!

Mazal, that’s where the problem starts why some like to keep it a secret. people tell only of the type 2’s that got blind, had heart failure, had to take down a finger etc.and everything comes from that scary word : DIABETES, right? and this gives us, type 1’s automaically a bad name!(by shiduchim, car license, work, etc.)

That’s why I’m very thankfull for rav meisels, that he talks so openly about it, and shows the world, that type 1 and 2 are completely different things (he says, he doesn’t even know why it has the same name…;-))and shows the world that we can live a ‘normal’ life!

It’s good to see the mood change here, but we’re used to it, ups and lows, and ups …;-) Heimish?

I hate to burst your bubble rebetsin, coffeefan, allsgr8, but as a diabetic myself(type1) for 27 years, i can say, yes, we do leed normal lives, we are normal like any other people, but pregnancies are defenitely not the same! They are hard before and during! You have to be very very strict the whole 9 months, and start with an a1c of 6.5.(and that’s not easy)

And can you imagine taking care for 10+ kids AND managing your diabetes?!?

You’re right, marrying healthy is not a garanty for life, but to start with a diebetic female is not a kindershpiel!

    mazal77, I guess you’re talking about type2, that’s a different story altogether.

i don’t see why you have to start as high as 250 or more, just change your basal, rabbi meisels has excel sheet that could help you with that.

actually, it’s not good to fast when you’re so high, you have to be higher than normal, but not that high!!!!

the prob with eating cake and stuff is that i always take a guess as to how much to cover for it but sometimes im right and often im wrong!! 🙁

wow, that sounds heimish! But 1 thing, you don’t have to eat these ugly cakes ‘without’ sugar, it doesn’t make a difference,I don’t really understand how it works but that’s what rav Meisels says anyways.

and about the feet, I started having complicatients (didn’t have problems, only the test showed it)and after my a1c dropped, it went away b”h!btw, my a1c now is……..6.3!!!

well, I’m one of those type1’s and not at all skinny, I even had to have a gastric by-pass last year!

Now I have a (almost) normal weight, but before it was very funny to hear people’s comments like: if you don’t eat sugar, how come you’re not skinny?I would just laugh at them, no patient to answer such a stupid question…

when my diabetes was diagnosed at age 3, it was kept a big secret, it was very hard for me, especially as a teenager, but when I was in camp(as a9th grader), i couldn’t stand it anymore. It was so hard hiding everything a few times a day, checking, taking insulin, etc.(there were no pumps yet in those days…)so I asked my parents permission to tel it to my friends, it took time but in the end they let me, and even made phone calls to jda(today fwd)to ask for others my age.

why am I telling you all this? because you can’t imagine how I felt after putting down the phone with my new friend! I spoke to her for an hour(!), it felt so good to feel that someone really understands me and knows what I’m going through. Before I didn’t even know what I was missing!

You don’t have to tell it to all your friends, but to come to a fwd meeting won’t harm you;I once even came from Europe to it, it pays!( and those who are there, understand your secret , so they won’t tell it to anybody!

If you check brocoli yourself, put a lot of salt in the water, whit a plate on top; the insects will float(if there are)

If you don’t want to use these heteirim, just cook them and mix it, then it’s for sure not a problem!
