Torah613TorahParticipant
How do you define a “Good” shadchan?
Torah613TorahParticipantOnly mortals are bound by time. Being mortal, I have no idea what this means, but that’s the answer to the question of yediya vs bechira.
Torah613TorahParticipantHebrew regular davening, English in my own words.
Yiddish “Gutt fun Avrohom”. It means so much more to me now that I’m married and appreciate the importance of everything mentioned in this tefila.
Torah613TorahParticipantAlso, formerly self-portraits were limited to the very wealthy. Now everyone can do it all the time.
People who take selfies are more narcissistic than people who don’t.
Torah613TorahParticipant?? ????? ????? ?? ??? ????
Torah613TorahParticipantThe book iDisorder talks about how the Internet makes people more self-centered and how that leads to various mental illnesses. Great book and you can get it used on Amazon very cheaply.
Torah613TorahParticipantThat’s true, DY. I intended to write the edited the first time.
December 19, 2013 1:56 am at 1:56 am in reply to: How to write a personal statement for seminary applications #994538Torah613TorahParticipantGood try, but that sounds too human.
How about you admire this teacher who says the whole sefer Tehillim every day, but it’s too much for you, so after many weeks of working on it you now say sefer Tehillim once a month. By going to ________ seminary, you hope to be inspired to say it once a day, or at least once a week since you are too humble to aspire to such greatness.
Torah613TorahParticipantI agree with squeak.
Torah613TorahParticipantTorah613, I don’t know exactly what you mean by that, or whether you mean that tongue in cheek.
Any negative influences within Yeshiva, are just not going to be as bad as the influences outside.

Torah613TorahParticipantThe fact is my conscience is in no way shaped by Torah and Halacha.
Um, streekgeek, that doesn’t exactly reflect well on you. I doubt that’s what you meant.
Torah613TorahParticipantAgree with TLIK.
Torah613TorahParticipantDY: I’d rather not say, but I acknowledge the question.
Torah613TorahParticipantI’d rather kids get bad influences in yeshiva then from the street.
Torah613TorahParticipantSo is this advice for young couples, or couples generally?
December 17, 2013 7:10 pm at 7:10 pm in reply to: Where can I find a kosher flavor injector? #994439Torah613TorahParticipantGet a syringe and inject marinade.
December 17, 2013 7:08 pm at 7:08 pm in reply to: Why do sour apples become sweet when you bake them? #994539Torah613TorahParticipantThey don’t. Your wife adds sugar when you’re not looking.
Torah613TorahParticipantPopa is brilliant: http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/topic/popa-is-brilliant
Torah613TorahParticipantDoesn’t bother me.
Torah613TorahParticipantI would leave it to the Sanhedrin.
Torah613TorahParticipantlol
I heard that maasah once. I think it continues that then he joined a litvish sheva brachos and made everyone dance in a circle, and drink beer, and everyone who danced in that circle and drank beer noticed the next day that their white hairs had turned black. Even the blonde people.
Torah613TorahParticipantCharlie: I’m surprised at you, giving Mandela a pass on his anti-Israel, pro-terrorism stance. It is against daas torah!!!!!!!
(Maharat Weiss had a column on shabbos in Forward calling Mandela out on this, and writes about how he protested Mandela when he visited NYC.)
LOL
I laughed out loud reading this post.
Torah613TorahParticipantI learned way too much hashkafah in school. It thoroughly confused me. I think teachers should stick to the text and practical halacha.

Claussen’s refrigerator pickles.
Torah613TorahParticipantAt least he didn’t introduce your son to drinking!
Torah613TorahParticipantIt’s been poisoned.
Torah613TorahParticipantMiri Topez is obviously a troll. And a male. Thanks for successfully trolling us, you weren’t at all bad as trolls go.
December 15, 2013 2:56 am at 2:56 am in reply to: How to write a personal statement for seminary applications #994535Torah613TorahParticipantMake sure to write about fake struggles.
Torah613TorahParticipantThe pictures are beautiful.
December 15, 2013 2:55 am at 2:55 am in reply to: Everyone Must Answer: What Is YOUR Favorite Dish (food) #1184480Torah613TorahParticipantPickles
Torah613TorahParticipantThere was a lady named Chaya, and she got a Yerushalayim Shel Zahav from her husband in the shape of a crown. All the girls wanted to be like her, so they named the seminary Keser Chaya.
Torah613TorahParticipantMy mother held to this minhag, and would never serve fleishigs on Thursday night.
My husband most decidedly does not hold by this minhag, and enjoys fleishigs at every opportunity.
Torah613TorahParticipant“bump”
December 15, 2013 2:51 am at 2:51 am in reply to: You know you're not a yeshiva guy anymore when… #1197558Torah613TorahParticipantEar wax helps defend against ayin hara.
Miri Topez, are you a guy or a girl? Because half your posts are from a male perspective.
Torah613TorahParticipantThanks!
Torah613TorahParticipantGood discussion here on this thread.
December 11, 2013 9:45 pm at 9:45 pm in reply to: [Not for Posters] Who complain about mods changing thread titles #992725Torah613TorahParticipantVery cute title. 🙂
Torah613TorahParticipantI play piano poorly, and can talk while I play.
Torah613TorahParticipantmiritchka: However, have you never heard of someone being impressed by a girl’s smile and positiver personality, and then setting them up with a boy that they just met at a function who reminded you of this girl due to his pleasant personality?
Yes, exactly. If they’ve met, however briefly, I think it’s fine.
Torah613TorahParticipantMiri, I don’t know anyone who did that before seminary and went to either of those sems.
Torah613TorahParticipantMiritchka, where do you get an oven bag?
Torah613TorahParticipantGamanit, DY is correct. I think it’s proper to tell someone if you know who they are (assuming it’s tznius and won’t upset them too much.)
Torah613TorahParticipantThanks golfer. What cleaners do you recommend?
Torah613TorahParticipantDY: Why are you okay with taking carrier status into account when it’s a good thing, but not when viewed in a negative light?
My point is just that if you know about something, it comes into account. Does it make a difference overall? Not necessarily. But people shouldn’t say that it doesn’t matter. If Hashem let you find out about something, it’s to send you a message of some sort, and not ignore it.
This is not about my personal views.
Torah613TorahParticipantI miss saying Hallel.
Torah613TorahParticipantI’m a BY girl who uses internet. Which seminary do you think I’ll fit into best – Bais Yaakov Intensive, BJJ, Hadar, or Bnos Chava? Which one has the best girls? Which one has the best lunches and trips? Which one is the most yeshivish but openminded? Which one is best for shidduchim? Which one is the cheapest? If I’m adopted do you think I’ll have a harder time getting in??
Torah613TorahParticipantDY, I didn’t mean to make it sound black and white.
Generally speaking, I think a shadchan should have met both before setting it up.
But I won’t rule it out because, as you note, sometimes it does work. Hashem has many ways of splitting the sea.
Torah613TorahParticipantMiri, I hope you’re joking, but honestly you probably wouldn’t fit into either one. And if you do manage to get in, you’ll have a hard time finding friends. How about Tomer Devorah in EY or Midreshet Tehila?
Torah613TorahParticipantI know lots of people, but I’d rather spy on them and tell their mothers everything they post than let them know.
