Torah613TorahParticipant
I love Rabbi Blumenkrantz zatzal’s digest. I read it from cover to cover.
It has so much hashkafa, personality, and fascinating information – and such a practical presentation of halachos!
Torah613TorahParticipantI never heard anyone do this either, but I’m on the ladies’ side, maybe I missed it.
achosid – sorry I don’t know where chassidim come in here either.
Torah613TorahParticipantI like these Divrei Torah. WIY, do you have a blog?
Torah613TorahParticipantVery nice, WIY. Thank you for posting it.
q
Torah613TorahParticipantPopa, what he intends to ask is, can you go to a bar for a mitzva date? (mitzva date – I suppose that’s when you date an older girl.)
only because bp27 already answered
Torah613TorahParticipantMake me plotz.
March 19, 2013 4:43 pm at 4:43 pm in reply to: 200,000,000 Spent Yearly by Patrons on Pesach Hotel Programs #938961Torah613TorahParticipantAlso, let’s think about all the private people who can’t afford to give 1000 but give 20% of what they earn anyway around Pesach time.
Torah613TorahParticipantDon’t know the halacha, but barring life or death issues, it wouldn’t happen in my kitchen.
Torah613TorahParticipantIt’s a troll people. You shouldn’t respond to it.
Torah613TorahParticipantShalomToYou: I’m not Popa, who is the expert, but I think you have a nearly perfect troll post!

Torah613TorahParticipantI make a point of praising everyone’s kids. Especially people in bad neighborhoods, since I think it prevents child abuse. I’m very friendly and spend a lot of time commuting, so there are plenty of opportunities.
Anyway, so one day, I meet this lady and her 3 year old daughter. Her daughter was a really social kid, so I did my usual thing about how sweet her daughter is, clearly reflects the mother’s upbringing, and how she’ll be so popular and successful as an adult, with a couple of comments on how hard it must be to raise such a kid with good manners, etc.
Boy am I surprised when every single time I take this route, I meet this women without her daughter, and she comes over to me, introduces herself, and asks me how I’m doing. (fortunately her daughter stood out so I remembered the incident) She really was affected by it! It’s so nice to feel like it has an effect. Turns out I’m not the only nice person out there, this lady is lovely and it keeps me safe in this neighborhood now that I have an acquaintance.
??? ???? ?? ??? ???? ?? ???? ????? ??????.
Torah613TorahParticipantI think Chabad.org has a calendar for this stuff.
Torah613TorahParticipantI’ve realized why my sense of ethics bothers others.
You should go if you can go. If you can’t then you can’t. But don’t take advantage of your boss’s generosity.
Torah613TorahParticipantI hate caffeine. Am on it now (got 2.5 hrs of sleep last night and had morning and evening midterms).
Now I won’t be able to sleep. I feel so wired. And my head hurts. And my throat hurts.
Torah613TorahParticipantPopa: That’s really interesting! Thank you for posting those words.
Squeak: I was joking. I realize that in conjunction with my other statement it didn’t seem so. And now that I’ve figured out that you’re not female, I get that you’re being sarcastic. (how on earth did you pick a name like squeak?)
You and PBA have a great dynamic between you, and we all know that there is just no stopping it once both of you post on a topic. 🙂

aproudbyg and TheBestBubby – hoping for the best.
My midterms went fairly well BH. Now I’m so high on caffeine I may even be able to stay up long enough to post in the 1:00 thread.
Torah613TorahParticipantWIY: LOL one of my favorite books ever!
Everything my mother makes, I personally don’t suffer at all on Pesach from chometz cravings.
Torah613TorahParticipantShouldn’t you be skiing right about now?
March 18, 2013 10:29 am at 10:29 am in reply to: I'm finally willing to admit Facebook could be dangerous #937848Torah613TorahParticipantGreat article, thanks for posting.
Torah613TorahParticipantI’m glad you got over your self-doubt.
Torah613TorahParticipantR’ Gershon Bess from Los Angeles put out a list.
I find the actual list pretty useless since almost nothing I or my family members use is on it. It probably covers whatever his wife and daughters are familiar with.
BUT what is incredibly USEFUL is his list of problematic ingredients.
If you know that
triticum vulgare = wheat and
avena sativa = oats and
ethyl alcohol = a problem, you can already put away most of your stuff. Then figure out what the ingredients from the makeup you have left are.
Torah613TorahParticipantI dread opening up topics that have squeak’s name in them.
PBA – for those differences we just each do our thing, and after a couple of months we get the family-approved version of the song. (i.e., both Azor-lasovsim and azor lasovsim would be fine and even harmonious. But singing a different part of the tune to the same words is not ok.)
Reference noted.
talmud: Yehudi. Nobody in my family is that modern.
*note to self: get notes*
Torah613TorahParticipantHow odd, one of my friends said the same thing, only it’s a she. And I told her I never thought of it like that.
Maybe it’s only people who only read your more famous topics (like the infamous women aren’t Jewish)
Torah613TorahParticipantIs it chocolate? I’m only interested if it’s chocolate.
Torah613TorahParticipantThanks 007. Vogue notice there’s a makeup thread, may have some tips.
Torah613TorahParticipantThe problem is, we start low. Then there’s a high part. We can’t agree over which paragraphs are which part. (I will ask my playing by ear siblings what the notes are.)
LOL PBA – My family does the exact same thing!!! With hatikvah vs. b’shilton… (Full disclosure: I taught them both songs.)
Torah613TorahParticipantNearly almost but not quite.
Torah613TorahParticipant13th Ave and somewhere between 44-49th st. there’s a kosher for Pesach makeup store, but I forget the name.
Torah613TorahParticipantThat was very courageous of PBA. Going to the dentist is a very scary thing.
Torah613TorahParticipantTell him that in Torah613’s house, he’d be home and expected to pull his weight in Pesach cleaning.
Torah613TorahParticipantI think it looks like a goat.
Torah613TorahParticipantIt doesn’t quite work like that.
Torah613TorahParticipantHi, I’m a 14 year old BY girl from Berkeley, I only eat macrobiotic food. I really want to go to BJJ but I heard that all Israeli seminaries serve a lot of unhealthy food. What seminaries provide macrobiotic (or at least organic) food? Will this be a problem in shidduchim?
Torah613TorahParticipantI’d rather not know what a meme is.
Torah613TorahParticipantInquirerr, are you aware that were all the addresses to be posted on the internet, this could cause the gedolim involved a lot of trouble? The internet is a very public place. It’s like posting their addresses on a billboard.
If you want access to Gedolim, it is safer to ask your Rav or Rosh Yeshiva to help you than to ask on the internet.
Torah613TorahParticipantThanks for the bump, OOM!
One of my cousins has pi memorized to 500 digits. Just to prove they could. Pretty useless but a cool party trick.
Torah613TorahParticipantNope, we know all our neighbors, and give nearly all mishloach manos.
If you’re a friendly person, and say hello to people any time you’re outside, it’s pretty hard to live somewhere for a couple of years and NOT know your neighbors.
Torah613TorahParticipantari-free: You do realize if I come, everyone will have to move up one room…
Torah613TorahParticipant“Torah613Torah: lol. I don’t remember where that quote is from exactly, but it is a classic Rincewind quote. Basically, Rincewind is this cowardly wizard (“WIZZARD”) who just wants to be left alone, yet keeps getting swept off on these epic adventures to save all of the Disc, etc. So…yeah.”
Oh. It’s a character.
Anyway, some good lines, but how can a book about a universe on the back of a giant turtle really be so interesting? But I will definitely have to read it now next time I’m at friends. 🙂
Torah613TorahParticipantCome on, wasn’t it a great speech? Even if it wasn’t all that warranted? Monkey think monkey do.
In a day or two, I will be enjoying several cognitively demanding finals spaced by only a few hours. My head is about ready to split from studying.
Torah613TorahParticipantI thought of writing it and therefore had to write it. If I don’t win the finals, it would never get written, so how can I wait? Since while writing it I can pretend I don’t have 6 hours of homework waiting for me in real life.
Torah613TorahParticipant*ACCEPTANCE SPEECH*
(applause)
I am so pleased to have placed among the finalists in the MonkeyWriter Post Contest. Receiving this award is such an amazing honor.
(applause)
I feel humbled by the whole experience. I never thought I would win such an honor, let alone on The Yeshiva World Coffee Room, and certainly not from Shnitzy with a -y and not an -el.
Mark Twain said, “To refuse awards is another way of accepting them with more noise than is normal.” Even without a lot of noise, it has been an experience to remember.
(applause)
Thanks to everyone for your moral support, and especially my English teachers, who I managed to ignore most of the time. Thank you all again!
(applause)
(don’t you love it when applause is written into the speech?)
Torah613TorahParticipant“I’ve seen excitement, and I’ve seen boredom. And boredom was best.”
What does this even mean?
Torah613TorahParticipantDon’t worry about it, just think about making the person you’re dancing with happy.
I often wait until the 2nd dance so there aren’t that many people around. 🙂
Torah613TorahParticipantOblate: I don’t get it. Are you a teacher or a student?
13-14 is a very large load, and almost impossible if you are in a school with a dual curriculum (i.e. Jewish subjects). I took 6 (some of it was self-study – I taught myself and just took the AP. I got credit for 5/6).
If you take only one, take European History, it’s worth 4 credits in most colleges and places you out of really tedious coursework.
IIRC they saved me at least 17 credits, but more importantly, they allowed me to place into higher level Humanities courses (English/History) so I had better professors and learned more.
There is no penalty for doing poorly. What do you have to lose?
Torah613TorahParticipant<CENSORED>
CENSORED
Just saved the mods some work…
Torah613TorahParticipantSorry the null and Aleph are reversed, haven’t figured out how to fix that.
Torah613TorahParticipantSushi is delicious. My mother likes to cook it.
Torah613TorahParticipantWIY: if we merit it, we will be able to do it.
Torah613TorahParticipantI’m doing it because I want to, and not because you told me to. 🙂
I have way too many favorite songs to list. Right now it’s Yaleh by Shwekey, Yesh Tikva (although i’m rapidly getting tired of it), and Bernstein’s Candide Overture, which has kind of grown on me lately.
