Torah613TorahParticipant
Writersoul, you sound absolutely perfect for Machon Ra’aya.
Torah613TorahParticipantOOM: You can’t compare Schmerling and Alprose…
Torah613TorahParticipantIt’s nice to have an extra year of pure Torah learning before you go into the outside world.
Shidduchim wise, if you only want to marry someone who only wants a girl who went to seminary, then you should go to seminary.
But I’m biased. I went to seminary just to be able to say that I went, and I regret it.
Torah613TorahParticipantLT: I’d like to know a source for that.
Torah613TorahParticipantCan we get back on the topic? People are waiting for Popa to critique their troll posts…
Torah613TorahParticipantDY: LOL
nsh: google it. And read Pirkei Avos!
Torah613TorahParticipantcharlie: I agree and am honored that you also thought it was interesting.
Redleg: The Torah is compared to a ????, it’s okay if you just like ???.
It’s a beautiful Rashi with so much to learn. Just imagine! Some of our ancestors may have come from these Bnai Ephraim.
Torah613TorahParticipant*applauds walton*
Pretty and skinny girls also get criticized for their looks by shadchanim. Usually by people who think that they control shidduchim, and if they don’t marry you off, no one will ever marry you. It’s not true and shidduchim can come from anywhere that Hashem wants. Do your best with what you have and don’t take it personally.
Torah613TorahParticipantCan a person tell the gabbai that it bothers them, so he won’t do it to other people?
Torah613TorahParticipantditto OOM.
Torah613TorahParticipantGG yekke: whoops.
Five fingers on a hand
Five makkos and then another five makkos
Torah613TorahParticipantWhat about dina d’malchusa?
Torah613TorahParticipantAre you allergic?
Torah613TorahParticipant5 children of Leah
Torah613TorahParticipantWhat about ties? What kinds of ties are in style now?
Torah613TorahParticipantSqueak, that was a great story. I just need an opportunity to tell it over in real life now. 🙂
Torah613TorahParticipantMy story is the only one where a shadchan could possibly cause weight gain. All of your stories / opinions / arguments will result in weight loss.
What will happen if there is a famine, and girls die, because they have no fat storage? It will be your fault.
Torah613TorahParticipantThere is an obvious solution: Every time you see a monkey, look at a handsome talmid chacham (preferably your husband) twice.
Torah613TorahParticipantBe careful that the shtick doesn’t run into lashon hara issues.
There are two types of shtick:
1. Typical shtick – tables, the maypole, popping balloons.
2. Personalized shtick – this usually consists of signs that have in-jokes on them.
Torah613TorahParticipantmoi – We all get paid here. Why would you post for free?

Torah613TorahParticipantabba_murray_bar_popa: Thank you. I didn’t want to quote it in case I mixed it up with something else. 🙂
Torah613TorahParticipant2. It still sounds to me like it’s its own value. Maybe when I’m wiser I shall understand.
3. I dunno. I need to think about applications of this a little more.
4. I’m glad I brought this up since you really helped me understand it. Thank you for your patience and taking the time to explain.
Torah613TorahParticipantDoes the opposite apply? If one is pregnant, should one make an effort to look at handsome talmidei chachamim?
Torah613TorahParticipantA shadchan told me that many boys do not want girls who are too slim. (Probably because he didn’t have anyone appropriate.)
March 28, 2013 10:07 pm at 10:07 pm in reply to: Books: Recs and Where To Buy Hebrew Softcover #1004987Torah613TorahParticipantIt worked out well. I highly recommend the Marcus Lehmann Hagada.
Torah613TorahParticipantAPBYG: You’re doing fine. Eat well, sleep, exercise, and eventually you will be able to figure out what to do and do it.
Torah613TorahParticipantThe psak I got was to not tell her it could be a problem.
Torah613TorahParticipantFor the record, in case it was implied, I must state that everyone at my family’s seder was 100% frum.
Torah613TorahParticipant1. You are an extremely talented writer.
2. Thank you for pointing out the crux of your position to me.
“the purpose being the expansion of human understanding and appreciation of in ways that cannot be achieved through patterned linear development.” But why does one want to see “new avenues of human thought”? Just for the pleasure of novelty.
Then it becomes old, and you need to make up newer avenues and patterns. That’s what reward value is. It is pleasurable because you like it because it is pleasurable. So to me, that IS art for the sake of art.
3. A bit confused. When an artist attempts to give forth a moral message, does that detract from (by disrupting creative flow) or add to (by making it more meaningful) their ‘creation’?
I like this very much. Can I understand this as that if you are trying to serve Hashem, then all the art you do with automatically be in service of Hashem? In that case I like what you are saying.
Of course, friend.
Torah613TorahParticipantIs it not a bean? I suppose for the same reason chocolate isn’t.
Please disregard all posts of mine last night… none of them made very much sense.
Torah613TorahParticipantI stole the afikoman one night and asked Hashem for a present (a sibling’s idea.)
Torah613TorahParticipantLOL
Torah613TorahParticipantThank you DY.
Torah613TorahParticipantThanks for the reminder.
Torah613TorahParticipantYes, got that. 🙂
So Bar Shattya, was it terrific? (I’m pretty sure that’s one of your siblings)
Torah613TorahParticipantGood point.
Back to OP – what kind of evolution? We all agree that mutations exist, for example.
Torah613TorahParticipantYes, but plenty of people have relatives who are not frum at the seder. So a large percentage of Torah observant Jewry.
March 28, 2013 4:18 am at 4:18 am in reply to: The Longest Seder ContestHow Late Will Your Seder End? #1199603Torah613TorahParticipant2:something both nights. I only used 1 hagada and 2 books this year. My siblings’ divrei Torah are improving.
Torah613TorahParticipantDid she like it?
Torah613TorahParticipantBut it doesn’t make sense.
I also don’t get why when we said Havdala tonight it was ??? ??? ?????? ???? ??? ????? since it’s not Shabbos.
Torah613TorahParticipantWhy isn’t the Coffee kitniyos?
Torah613TorahParticipantChez11: Source? You do realize this would make most of Klal Yisrael drinking yayin nesech.
Torah613TorahParticipantRaining, now.
Torah613TorahParticipant147: A Merry Pesach to you, too.
Torah613TorahParticipantSyag: Just bleached our kitchen garbage can, after taking all the garbage out, doing laundry, and am about to make a chocolate cake. I think I’m yotzei. 🙂
WIY: Yes, hence my not posting after this b”n.
147: Weren’t they already getting married and having Jewish families in Mitzrayim?
March 25, 2013 5:51 pm at 5:51 pm in reply to: Books: Recs and Where To Buy Hebrew Softcover #1004986Torah613TorahParticipantI have lost my faith in you CR people.
No one gave me any good recommendations. Because of you, I will have to take not one but 3 books to the Seder (The Young Moses, Prince of Egypt by Marcus Lehman, Let my nation go, and Dual Identity.)
I also use 3 haggados (one with Hebrew short vertlach, one with English stories, and one with lots of pictures.)
I really don’t like being bored. 🙂
Torah613TorahParticipantAnd they all lived happily ever after.
Torah613TorahParticipantI know! It’s snowing!!!
Torah613TorahParticipantBut we don’t mish.
Torah613TorahParticipantBump. My family bruks, I am proud to say.
