Thank you artchill, that was a beautiful translation.
I think you meant Yitzchak’s tefila since it’s ???? ???? ???? ????
Torah613TorahParticipantSecularFrummy: That matter is made up of energies can be seen as a hint that the physical world is made up of a spiritual, less tangible world. That the fossil layers are not organized as they should be but are all mixed up, as would happen in the mabul. That the universe is expanding, so it must have had a beginning.
Torah613TorahParticipantSyag: Good question. I don’t think so. By the way you are one of my favorite posters. Please post more often.
Rabbi Perfect: You didn’t specify Beis Dish shel Matah, so I’m going to assume you meant Bais Din Shel Maalah, and I was not privy to the deliberations. 00:59
Torah613TorahParticipantSqueak thank you for your clear explanations. If only my professor and textbook was more like you.
OOM I’m pretending I didn’t see your post because it is just going to confuse me.
Torah613TorahParticipantLOL. This is clearly an in joke. Or a Rabbi Kunda reference.
What is the name of Emperor Popa’s Kingdom?
How many dates did Emperor Popa go on so far?
What is the Grand Vizier putting off?
Torah613TorahParticipantThe Golem Speaks: Yes. 11:59
squeak: Yay! I now have a 50 on your course! (stop ruining the curve icot) I guess one at a time ad infinitum is not correct.
As for how: I don’t see why you can’t just move them all up one, then move each guest into room 1, then move them up one again, and move the next guest into room 1, infinite times. Instead the rule is that you can do 2n-1 (double each present guest’s number and take away 1, then move the first guest into room 1 and each guest n into room number 2n-1.)
I suppose the rule way is more convenient if you are trying to do it quickly but I don’t get why moving them up one is wrong or different. Feel free to answer questions since it is a new day and new rules.
00:01
Torah613TorahParticipantpou bear: You can do better. But the reason is because it is not the custom.
Torah613TorahParticipantSqueak: You’re right, I looked it up. ICOT and squeak, thanks for helping me catch a mistake on an extra credit homework.
I think so, one at a time, but I’d better review this. I really struggle with the theoretical aspects of infinity. Every time I memorize the rules, I just forget them all the next day, it doesn’t click in my head. Can’t wait until this is over, and there had better be a reason they are forcing me to learn this some day. Do you (or anyone else here) have any advice for “getting” infinity topics? (11:45)
Torah613TorahParticipantICOT:
Whether your answers are better or worse,
Is not relevant, since you responded in verse.

April 12, 2013 2:04 pm at 2:04 pm in reply to: Contest: How Long Can You Go Without Chometz? #944710Torah613TorahParticipantThe Netziv is answering the smichas parshiyos of why ???? ???? is next to ?? ?????. He’s saying that it’s the reason you can’t add a negative mitzva out of Yirah. So the reason you can’t add a lav is because of ?? ?????, and the proof is the smichas parshiyos to ???? ????, which is incompatible with adding too many lavin.
I hope I’m understanding it correctly from my high school Chumash.
April 12, 2013 1:43 pm at 1:43 pm in reply to: Contest: How Long Can You Go Without Chometz? #944708Torah613TorahParticipantIs there bal tosif on a lav?
I don’t know halacha, but from the chumash, yes. I think the Ha’amek Davar says that a person cannot add to a lav from Yiras Hashem (like not adding fast days, because it goes against ???? ????)
Torah613TorahParticipantOK.
Torah613TorahParticipantben_yehuda, you know someone?
Torah613TorahParticipantSaysMe: Because she has problems (9:21)
Squeak: Both great questions. There are more numbers between 0 and 1, which is an uncountable infinity, than between negative and positive infinity of integers, which is a countable infinity, since uncountable infinities are larger than countable infinities. Therefore the infinity between 0 and 1 is larger. (9:23)
As for the trees, none. 9:25
ICOT: Start your own thread to answer questions. This is my thread and I don’t appreciate your infringement on answering. Feel free to ask any question you want though. 9:27
Popa_bar_abba: Very deep question. Without knowing the properties of the genie in question, and as a general principle based on oral traditions, it would seem wise to escape as fast as you can, and not ask for anything. 9:31
Torah613TorahParticipantThe Golem Speaks: Not as a Golem, but as a real person, my feeling is Hevel, Chesed, and Middas Harachamim. (it is now 00:27)
Torah613TorahParticipantDHM: Right, and GIYF.
Torah613TorahParticipantIt was long in coming and well deserved, DY.
Torah613TorahParticipantRT: More like she would be related to the Torah in the future, no?
yiddishmeidel: Well, I can speak from experience. When people say Torah, I do not think of myself. 🙂 (I do wish I had picked a different screenname, but it’s too late now.)
Torah613TorahParticipantPearl S. Buck: AMAZING. I had forgotten about her.
The only other ones I’ve read is Wilder, who is good, but not great, and Lois Lowry, who I never really appreciated.
Torah613TorahParticipantThanks OOM.
George Eliot? That’s a girl?
Torah613TorahParticipantSaysMe: 1, but that’s 1 too many. (it is now 00:03)
Rabbi Perfect: Excellent question. I asked my father, who said that in the primary stage, only the man is obligated, but in practice family life is not possible without a woman, since she fulfills vital roles. (it is now 00:05)
Torah613TorahParticipantIs it tznius to read posts by female members of the CR?
Torah613TorahParticipantWIY: Nothing is accomplished. I’m not trying to accomplish anything. (it is now 11:17)
Torah613TorahParticipantThis is kind of creepy coming from a male screenname.
Sometimes doctors and nurses are busy, they aren’t always there. If you want someone to be with you at all times, and not only your husband, but a woman, and haven’t hired a midwife, that is one excellent reason to use a doula.
Torah613TorahParticipantGamanit: Your Verbal IQ is between 120-130. (going with an avg Ashkenaz Jewish IQ of 115, plus another 5 points for being a member of YWN CR, plus another 5-10 points for posting fairly intelligently.) (it is now 11:07)
Torah613TorahParticipantOneOfMany: LOL. Very cute. Everyone reading this thread, I advise you to google “the answer to life, the universe and everything.” You will find that my answer was correct according to Google. (it is now 11:00)
SecularFrummy: Even though you didn’t say what “equal numbers” are I figure you must be asking about let’s say the set of all integers vs. the set of odds? They’re equal because you can establish a one to one correspondence. (it is now 11:01)
Torah613TorahParticipantI think this thread is supposed to be about vacation. But nice alliteration.
April 12, 2013 2:57 am at 2:57 am in reply to: How to tell the Shadchan that the girl's too heavy #946227Torah613TorahParticipantLOL WIY someone, somewhere, is going to take your advice…
Torah613TorahParticipantThanks OneOfMany! I should have posted this long ago.
NG looks interesting, maybe if I come across it.
I generally don’t enjoy female writers, JK Rowling was the one exception, and you see what happened to her later.
Could you tell me a “hook” to get me interested in Edith Wharton?
Torah613TorahParticipantPopa: Was he? I don’t know.
OneOfMany: That would greatly enhance my anonymity.
Torah613TorahParticipantBTW, Hashem left plenty of loopholes that make it NOT appear as if the world was billions of years old.
Torah613TorahParticipantExcellent work.
Torah613TorahParticipantPaylesher: Prove it.
Torah613TorahParticipantwritersoul: Really, who said?
Torah613TorahParticipantLeft to write: Because Rabbi Miller did it, and anything that Rabbi Avigdor Miller zy”a did or said gets repeated forevermore, for better or for not better.
Torah613TorahParticipantOneOfMany: 42. That was an easy question, even a moderator could have answered it.
Torah613TorahParticipantAaw thanks OneOfMany! I’m touched.
Torah613TorahParticipantLOL, I had no idea that there was such an inyan. Good to know!
Torah613TorahParticipantWritersoul: Nu? Show some trolling spirit! Post something worthy of PBA!
Torah613TorahParticipantDoes Joseph exist?
Torah613TorahParticipantPaylesher: 97 (according to one IQ test I took online, but I only answered the interesting questions). I like the number 97. (It is now 9:37)
squeak: To the best of my ability. (It is now 9:39)
Torah613TorahParticipantYet another minhag to make sure my future husband doesn’t have.
Torah613TorahParticipantPaylesher: You’re joking. Why?
Torah613TorahParticipantI think there are braille book lending libraries. Or audio books?
Refua Shleima to the girl.
Torah613TorahParticipantPBA: I did, on Brony’s deleted suggestion, but the mods deleted it.
squeak: see my response there.
R.T. Not bad.
Torah613TorahParticipantOOM: Happens to me all the time! (the books one.)
Torah613TorahParticipantI’m crazy tonight. This week wrung me dry.
Shalom: Speak for yourself. Maybe you’re just not important enough. While posting this, I got no less than 3 urgent texts. Imagine if I stopped to daven maariv!
Torah613TorahParticipantI love you, OneOfMany.
Torah613TorahParticipantI don’t get why this wouldn’t apply to both genders.
