Torah613TorahParticipant
No, but you’re more likely to get an answer by contacting someone you know who is Satmar.
Torah613TorahParticipantHaifagirl: I agree that that was thoughtless, but she was probably just not thinking.
Torah613TorahParticipantSyag: Lol. Sometimes I am bored but usually not for long. 🙂 Yet I still find the time to post, so I can’t be too busy.
Torah613TorahParticipantGolda: Welcome! Thanks for posting. 🙂
daniela: What do you think you stand to gain by focusing on the questioner, rather than the question? Not everything is part of some larger conspiracy to challenge major beliefs. Sometimes it is just a simple question.
squeak: Good answer. Thank you.
WIY: Why wouldn’t you just post it? I don’t have a Sefer Hachinuch handy.
DaasYochid: Thanks for checking the Sefer Hachinuch. And for the reminder.
April 26, 2013 8:30 pm at 8:30 pm in reply to: How to answer questions regarding a shidduch #1042606Torah613TorahParticipantgefen: that’s why my way works.
Torah613TorahParticipantlove the new subtitle
Torah613TorahParticipantDaasYochid: Thank you for your beautiful post. I think you expressed it very well.
Torah613TorahParticipantNot the same, it’s easier to understand caste than physical features. Aren’t we supposed to focus on the spiritual?
April 26, 2013 2:22 am at 2:22 am in reply to: Letter circulated in Brooklyn about Motzei Shabbos hangouts #950760Torah613TorahParticipantWritersoul: thanks.
Torah613TorahParticipantDY: That’s what I said. But she said why can’t it be their job just because of a physical issue? It seems discriminatory.
April 26, 2013 1:27 am at 1:27 am in reply to: Letter circulated in Brooklyn about Motzei Shabbos hangouts #950756Torah613TorahParticipantwritersoul: I think you are making an excellent point.
Do you agree with my post above (that this letter will end up working as reverse psychology)?
April 25, 2013 11:37 pm at 11:37 pm in reply to: How to answer questions regarding a shidduch #1042586Torah613TorahParticipantmdd: I am under the impression that they discuss what not to cover, but not how to cover it.
April 25, 2013 11:33 pm at 11:33 pm in reply to: Letter circulated in Brooklyn about Motzei Shabbos hangouts #950747Torah613TorahParticipantGuess where I’m going to be Motzei Shabbos???
Just kidding. But seriously, this letter accomplishes the opposite of what it intended.
How many of the kids on Ave J are there because their parents sent them to hang out with other teens for some nice clean fun? They’re trying to rebel and specifically forbidding it will just heighten the excitement for them
Torah613TorahParticipantThanks, The Goq.
Rationalfrummie: you’re right. I don’t know anything about this topic. (to be honest, until this thread, I had no idea that there was a required height for mechitzas. I just figured it was there to help the men not look.)
Torah613TorahParticipantThank you Yserbius. I have OpenOffice so that makes the most sense.
Torah613TorahParticipantGo for the cheapest.
Torah613TorahParticipantI don’t mind the reading material so much. Some of it is interesting (like Rabbi Eisemann’s books)
Torah613TorahParticipantlol this is a good place for clean chuck norris jokes (posting for future google searches)
Torah613TorahParticipantDY: I figure that if someone joins anew, they should get the chance to be a new person, without being disturbed.
Unless they bother other people.
Torah613TorahParticipantabcd2: You’re right. I’m sorry. Honestly the girls I know in Lev are very smart. But they are very well-rounded type of smart, not necessarily academic, and that’s why they went to Lev. But you’re right and I apologize for my above comment.
Lev Bais Yaakov is a very nice school with great people and very warm faculty and administration.
They have much more extracurricular options than other schools. For example, in 9th grade, there’s guitar, art, and music. Hashkafa is also an important part of the curriculum. It is less memorization based than other schools. That’s what I meant by less academic. But plenty of smart girls go there.
Torah613TorahParticipantam23, can you go on Birthright? if you can’t afford to go on your own? After Birthright, there is an option to extend your trip.
April 25, 2013 4:06 pm at 4:06 pm in reply to: How to answer questions regarding a shidduch #1042582Torah613TorahParticipantWhy are a bunch of guys arguing over the skirt length women should wear? Sorry but that is a little creepy. Are you now going to discuss what denier of stockings is appropriate?
Besides, it makes no sense to have measurements. People’s bodies are shaped differently and a skirt that is technically too short may be much more tznius than another that is not.
Torah613TorahParticipantWelcome to the coffee room. Hope you enjoy your stay!
Torah613TorahParticipantyytz: I didn’t know that.
haifagirl: interesting.
Torah613TorahParticipantI loved our washing machine. I was so excited to be tall enough to do my laundry by myself.
To this day, I find doing laundry very relaxing.
Torah613TorahParticipantThe issur is to look. So don’t look!
Torah613TorahParticipantHaLeivi, great posting on this thread.
Torah613TorahParticipantWIY: Go visit, speak to parents, speak to kids.
Torah613TorahParticipantAnyone agree to break the rules now? I really want to comment.
Torah613TorahParticipantPBA: You’re right.
Why do you think they got upset when I posted on their page that they don’t do same-sex marriage? I’m not upset if someone says that about my yeshiva! Why do you think they deleted that they require mechitza’s? I am happy to say that my yeshiva has a mechitza and requires its graduates to have one.
Good point.
DaasYochid: Or, it shows that they’re smart enough to realize that they would not attract anyone if they were so blatantly non halachic.
Deserves to be repeated.
It is quite funny that they are deleting my edits. After all, the people deleting it know that what I said is true, and nobody would deny it, and my sourcing is good. They’re blaming it on this thread, but there is no req of motives on wikipedia. It doesn’t say much about their intellectual honesty.
Agreed.
Torah613TorahParticipantI agree with Popa. You should try to find what is making you unhappy, and fix it. That’s what Hashem wants us to do.
Torah613TorahParticipantWell, it was interesting reading the talk page, anyway.
But YCT has much more people than the yeshivish world does who are internet savvy. I shudder to think of what they could do to our wikipedia pages. So on second thought, maybe it’s just as well it got edited.
Torah613TorahParticipantI honestly think you should just go to Israel and try them out.
Torah613TorahParticipantsw33t: good idea. Anyone uses OpenOffice’s version of Excel?
yserbius: Thanks for the ref.
Torah613TorahParticipantDaniel Rosen:
I agree with you that it is better to give one’s money to worthy causes. But it could be that someone needs to wear brand names in order to feel respectable in their social group.
But there are also people who just want to be the most stylish of their group. Some people need that, but for some people, it is a waste of money. Is that what you are talking about?
(mods, please delete my previous comment)
Torah613TorahParticipantIt seems to me that their policy is a very reasonable compromise.
Torah613TorahParticipantHaLeivi: Not necessarily that, also Nadav and Avihu. And Mishael and Elitzafan?
Torah613TorahParticipantHaifa: Google “epicene they”.
I just out-grammared the grammarian. 🙂
Torah613TorahParticipantYeshiva World.
Torah613TorahParticipantrationalfrummie: Where do you see that the Taliban is rude?
Torah613TorahParticipantdumlat, it’s not in my version of Pirkei Avos. Maybe Avos D’Rabbi Nosson? Avos D’Rabi Eliezer?
Torah613TorahParticipantI was very accurate. 🙂
Torah613TorahParticipantOOM: LOL
Torah613TorahParticipantIt sounds new age-y
April 23, 2013 12:59 pm at 12:59 pm in reply to: What is the Best girl's Yeshiva in Brooklyn #948167Torah613TorahParticipantMochelli: I wonder if you are a troll.
Ms Critique: Both are excellent for people coming from Chassidish homes, but people not from the Chassidish community will feel less comfortable.
Gan Yisrael’s elementary school gives the children a lot of freedom to express themselves, and is less structured than other schools. Some children suffer from this, but others thrive from the lack of pressure. I personally would not send a child there without thoroughly checking that I was comfortable with the way the classroom was run.
Bais Bracha is a good heimish school, which is slightly more academic than other chassidish schools. It has a solid reputation.
Bais Yaakov of Boro Park elementary school is a wonderful school and the best one in Brooklyn in my opinion. They are the only school with a guidance counselor, a nurse, social workers, and staffed resource room. It is the biggest frum elementary school in Brooklyn and many people send at least one of their children there, if they are having difficulty in another school, since they have more resources. The principals are very involved and it is easy to get the help you need. They are also slightly more open minded than other Brooklyn schools.
April 23, 2013 12:54 pm at 12:54 pm in reply to: Weird, but I don't know if this has any halachic implication #1146960Torah613TorahParticipantSam2: Why would pig’s hooves be muttar to eat?
Torah613TorahParticipantThe Goq: Hilarious.
I like OneOfMany’s best.

Torah613TorahParticipantapushatayid: “Bread” is all-inclusive. But you’re right, there are different types of bread, for every taste.
DaasYochid, do you mean ‘apparent inconsistency that is certain to be easily resolved’? 🙂
