h2: I can’t figure out the connection of your screen name to your real name…aren’t you Arnold Fine?
June 23, 2010 2:38 pm at 2:38 pm in reply to: Should Some People Be Considered "Unmarriable"? #687233tomim tihyeMemberThe Posuk “Tomim tihye im Hashem” can imply that it is not our job to make calculations. We ARE required to do what G-d expects of us, and marrying seems to be among those requirements.
tomim tihyeMemberSome of my most embarrassing moments occurred in my childhood, when I stuttered. One evening, I offered my younger sister’s friend a drink, and, instead of answering me, the friend said to my sister, “Why does your sister say ‘dr-dr-drink’?” I remember crying myself to sleep that night.
Thank G-d, I outgrew it by age 11.
All the stutterers I know only stutter in their primary spoken language.
tomim tihyeMemberd a- meat, potatoes, barley, brown rice, salt & pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika. If you don’t use much meat, saute an onion or two before adding all ingredients. This cholent is rated A+ by my husband, kids, and a hundred others.
I used to make a jazzed up cholent with all kinds of spices, sauces, etc., but once we were at a relative, and my husband said her cholent is the best. I was shocked when she listed only these simple ingredients!
tomim tihyeMemberGullible is spelled with 3 l’s by folks like Tweety- e.g. “Dat Squeak is reawy guWibwe if he finks Sywvester is sweeping.”
(So much for computers; at least when I make a ‘w’ it looks like 3 l’s.)
tomim tihyeMemberXylitol appears safe as it’s a natural sugar from the birch tree. Does anyone know anything to the contrary?
tomim tihyeMemberWolf has a point; the dress only shows where he puts himself now, not his direction.
tomim tihyeMemberWolf: Your point is well-taken, though it requires diligence to look up the source and humility to back down from one’s position, traits many of us still only WISH we had.
tomim tihyeMemberd a- I’m saving up already for your tip!
Seriously, I think we should exchange screen names (though I’m not sure what shaychos YOURS has to ME)!
tomim tihyeMemberThat’s a great idea for a thread topic- true/false or something to do with gullibility.
Did they invent a new type of tomato in Japan?
tomim tihyeMemberd a- Did you mention which camp you work at? I’ve got to get my son into your bunk! It’s great that you feel the responsibility of being in charge of the kids.
tomim tihyeMemberI don’t agree with the “tipping on visiting day” policy because it causes negios; I think tips should be given on the last day of the trip.
tomim tihyeMemberDo you have too much scar tissue from giving blood too many times?
tomim tihyeMemberAlthough I’ve never had an issue with campers giving me tips, I can definitely imagine that there are kids who would use it to tease counselors.
As a parent, I usually give the tips to my children to give, often accompanied by a thank you note from them as well as one from us. I never even thought about the possibility of them misusing the opportunity; they are usually excited to hand it to the counselors, and they feel trustworthy and responsible to be transporting the money. You have to know the individual child.
In the spirit of the Montessori educational method, tipping is one of those “teachable moments,” if we so desire.

Learning the psychology of reinforcement and cognitive behavior management can be really helpful for positive parenting (if it’s done negatively, can it even be called “parenting”?)
tomim tihyeMemberGottit: Same here! While I shouldn’t judge, I don’t understand why some women bake cakes and cookies, but buy their challos.
tomim tihyeMemberIOW, “Chochmah bagoyim ta’amin.”

What sofdavar said is obviously obvious.
tomim tihyeMembershaatra: Your (mis)understanding of “Yidden” reminded me of my own:
“Moshiach apayich (your anger?) b’gashmiyus Yerushalayim”
tomim tihyeMember“Odom L’omol Yulod”- “Man was born to toil”.
This is a recipe for falling asleep quickly. This may explain Rav Moshe’s ability to do so.

tomim tihyeMemberWith lenses like yours, those are sure to be positive!
tomim tihyeMemberP-3 is only available in NY, but no, it’s not income-dependent, for a change. It depends on the results of the DOE’s evaluation of your child. Your child’s school has the contact info for your district.
tomim tihyeMemberSome other names for “that positive energy” are self-worth, meaning, or subconscious.
tomim tihyeMemberI take the liberty of extending this thread to include tapes:
those of Rav Yitzchok Kirzner, ztz’l, are my greatest source of chizuk. They can be ordered at rabbikirzner.org.
tomim tihyeMemberMany of the tunes sung to the Tefillos in a Yekkishe shul were composed by Germans, yet davening there can be quite uplifting, perhaps aided by the precision and decorum.
tomim tihyeMemberMost important rule for any type of kiruv work:
Avrohom was mekareiv anoshim; Sora was mekareiv noshim.
tomim tihyeMemberI never find appropriate length skirts at these stores- I think you have to be under 5’4 to wear those skirts. I buy only blazers at department stores, nothing else.
tomim tihyeMemberA friend asked: “How did you get such a good deal on your house?”
I googled us and realized how she knew how much we paid. Yuck!
Any tips on how to get this info off google?
tomim tihyeMember1) Kessef
2) Gelt
3) Capitalism
(oh, sorry, I just realized there was no third question)

In the words of a German philosopher:
“He who knows WHY knows almost any HOW.”
tomim tihyeMemberCan anyone supply a mekor for not listening to tunes composed by aino Yehudim? Otherwise, I trust my Neshoma to tell me which songs I should listen to since there are numerous tunes composed by Yehudim that sound just like the ones we shouldn’t listen to.

tomim tihyeMemberOur Bronx Zoo date was the first time my husband saw a giraffe!
It was also the first time I saw anyone (besides my grandma) read each and every piece of information about every animal (and discuss it afterwards!).
tomim tihyeMemberMaybe the kids can take turns telling short stories- public speaking experience! Just lay down the rules for the other kids beforehand:
If you already know the story…etc.
tomim tihyeMemberWho was the mother of Avrohom Avinu? (Amaslay bas Karnevo)
tomim tihyeMemberFirst question that comes to mind:

tomim tihyeMemberCC: Thanks!
tomim tihyeMemberso right: With the exception of Bubby’s and a good bungalow colony/frum hotel, all of the above suggestions have tznius issues (which is why we don’t do any of them in the summer).
tomim tihyeMemberfabie: If you’re makpid not to go where there are tznius issues, stay in your own house all summer!
tomim tihyeMemberWise to find out whether the Yeshiva is up-to-date with paychecks. A great many are not, and it may take many months until you see $$.
For a woman to teach in a girls’ school, she has to be VERY idealistic (and not worry how to pay the babysitter while she’s waiting for her overdue pennies).
May 26, 2010 6:58 am at 6:58 am in reply to: Breach in Tznius: Recent affliction attacking Klal Yisroel #1025150tomim tihyeMemberRamateshkolian: I think that ensuring a girl’s success in school, both socially and academically, can go a long way toward her dressing appropriately.
tomim tihyeMemberd a – agree!
chol…shke (forgive me for not spelling it out- too nauseated):
Aha, so you’re the unrecognized name on our caller ID: “Kishke Kugel”.
tomim tihyeMemberThanks, d a; yes, this one gets filed under “Diversity in the CR”.
tomim tihyeMemberIf a doctor doesn’t find the answer, making sure your posture is good may help you breathe more easily.
tomim tihyeMemberWhy do you say “in the past”
Dear Mommy 613
Do you realize that his teenage years
Are only just beginnin’?
tomim tihyeMemberA Jew is in Germany. He stops a local and asks “Tell me, do you like Jews?” The local says, “Of course I like Jews!”
The Jew says thank you and walks on. He stops another local and repeats the question. This German also says he likes Jews.
The Jew says thank you and walks on. He stops a third local and repeats the question: “Do you like Jews?” The guy begins cursing the Jews.
The Jew interrupts him, “Can you please watch my suitcase for five minutes?”
tomim tihyeMemberThe KGB knocks on Shmerel’s door and says: “We know you have 200 pounds of gold. Hand it over!”
Shmerel calls to his wife, “Sarah, my golden one, they came for you!”
May 24, 2010 2:04 pm at 2:04 pm in reply to: Breach in Tznius: Recent affliction attacking Klal Yisroel #1025095tomim tihyeMember“Sounds as ridiculous as saying long skirts almost to the floor are not tzanua – is it better to reveal some of our legs than to cover?”
Is it better to reveal our face/neck than to cover (as Muslims do)? There are certain parts (lower leg included) that are meant to be exposed, and to cover them is considered provocative.
