“Thunder was created for no other reason than to smooth the creases of the heart” (Gemara, no clue where).

We each look at our own heart to see where the creases are.

Harav M. Salomon, shlita, says that thunder has many forms, including Yissurim.

    “Kittens and a College Textbook”

There was once a kitten who approached a college textbook and began to purr because it smelled like fish. His friends heard the purring and came to check out the cause. They all purred around the textbook agreeing that it indeed smelled like fish.

What’s the connection between kittens and a textbook?!

ZachKessin: If one believes the events to be acts of G-d, and he also believes that G-d communicates with us through His actions, then isn’t it wise for him to keep the lines of communication open?

When my 5-year old saw me for the first time after I gave birth, he said, “It looks like you have another baby in your stomach. In how many weeks is it coming out?”

My 2-year old wants “toof-peyos” on her “brush-teef.”

She also wants “kiddush cup” on her macaroni.

(And my husband wants speech therapy for my 2-year old.)

At bedtime, give the baby a bottle, even if you’re nursing exclusively. He may not be full enough to fall into a deep sleep.

My personal rule that has served me well for many years, b”h:

Assume your husband is clueless about what you need/want in every area of your life, and instruct accordingly (using seichel, duh).

Superficially, it’s often easier to hold it against him for not meeting your needs, but being a big girl and communicating is the more satisfying way.

Will your son benefit from such long hours of learning?

Perhaps it would be beneficial to remove him from secular studies in Yeshiva altogether (and probably parts of Limudei Kodesh, too) and use that time (either in school or at home) for P3 services.

I teach my kids to critique everything they read. For example, in a Dr. Seuss book: “How many fingers do I see…Eleven? This is something new, I wish I had 11 too!”

I asked the kids why we would not wish for 11 fingers, they said we should be happy with the way Hashem made us. I asked them to come up with a substitute for that line.

Our family’s version is “…I’m glad I have ten, like you!”

Another story we read is about some porters who lied to a passenger about what happened to part of her luggage. At the end of the story, my kids sing “Midvar sheker tirchak” (and one kid likes to yell at the picture of the porters, “Liar, liar, pacifier…”)

I save all the broken crayons (remove paper), and when enough accumulate, we melt them using an iron (a piece of wax paper goes between iron and crayons and another piece between crayons and towel), then I pour the colorful mess into chocolate molds or schnapps cups, let it harden, and voila! New, multi-colored crayons!

(My oldest once suspected me of being too stingy to buy new crayons, but I asked her why we’d want boring single-color crayon sticks, when we have interesting-looking multi-colored ones?)
