Old joke that explains theory of relativity:

finding seven hairs in your cup of coffee vs. seven hairs on your head.

You decide whether it’s the general or special or spatial theory of relativity.

But of all topics in physics, why did you choose one of the most complex?

I’m glad there’s nothing else bothering you.

Or you can pour marinara sauce over it (paper off) and bake it in oven 2 hrs with or without veggies (zucchini, peppers, onions, mushrooms).

But of course, this is not the authentic way. Jews have to eat everything sweet, even fish.

BTW, if anyone wants to try KFC chicken, pour some Hunt’s bbq sauce over your chicken and bake at 350 for 1&1/2 hours or more, uncovered.

When I served this easy chicken once, my in-laws were amazed that it tasted just like KFC’s.

Some people have low blood pressure in the morning which causes them to feel like a chunk of lead and prevents their eyes from staying open long enough to get up. This is especially common among pregnant women, but it can happen to anyone. Check your blood pressure upon awakening; if that’s your problem, consult your doctor. Drinking more fluids is usually recommended, but there may be other eitzos.

One child’s desk wasn’t getting done, and it was getting…on…my…nerves (with gritted teeth). I dumped the entire contents of the desk into a garbage bag and calmly informed the child that the desk simply needed to be wiped down, and then the stuff could be replaced. It was just the push needed!

Summer can be a great opportunity for an “internship.” I once assisted an OT for a month to see if it was something I wanted to major in.

Mov. Mount: I believe that there’s more “ignorance” out there than “covering up.”

You describe a problem of parents not knowing/understanding their teenagers’ feelings (whether these feelings are from PTSD or other MH issues). This is very prevalent in every society; perhaps it is exacerbated when there is a significant discrepancy between the parents’ upbringing and that of their children- e.g. parents were raised in a more conservative society than today’s American teens.

Rochelle: Who needs an excuse? We’re not dealing with rational adults, but messed-up teenagers! And they may not be consciously choosing to leave the fold, but they just start doing things because of their negative emotions…aveira goreres aveira.

When I was just out of seminary, a mother of boys in shidduchim asked to see a picture of my sem class. She pointed to one particular girl, who happened to be a very organized girl with great middos, and said, “This one would probably be good for my ‘Yitzy’, but she has a bit of a double chin.” I told her that it was just that picture, and that really the girl was thin, but she wouldn’t listen.

One look at one picture was all it took for her to eliminate a wonderful girl!

How do you define “extremes”? I came home beaming from the first date with my husband and felt pretty sure this was it! Obviously, my family thought I was nuts, but they saw how happy and sure about it I was for the six weeks of dating him, so it wasn’t a surprise that we were engaged after six dates. B”H, not a second of regret more than a decade later.

There IS a concept of a neshama identifying its other half.

The symptoms of mental illness are often not recognized as such until something drastic occurs; in some instances, this occurrence is leaving the fold.

Ron- the difference between snowflakes and people or kugels is that when you combine all snowflakes, they lose their individuality, yet if you form a crowd of ppl or kugels, they retain their individuality. (Unless, of course, you mush the kugels together. Then again, snowflakes don’t have to get mushed to lose themselves in the crowd.)

Wow, this thread really resonates with me! In my previous life, I aspired to become an actress, and although at some point I decided to drop the idea, I wondered how I would channel that talent. Was it given to me just for the nisayon of sacrifice? I didn’t think so and decided I would join one of these women’s productions when college and work would no longer be so time-consuming. Well, family obligations make far more demands on a woman’s time than do college and work! And yet, motherhood provided a real outlet for my acting abilities! I now perform daily, albeit for a limited audience! Actually, I think R’ Miller ztz’l wrote that life is a stage in that we must act according to what the head knows is proper behavior, though our hearts may feel quite differently.

And with that in mind, there are many times when I really do feel like an actress!

Aren’t women supposed to institute sensitivity-training for the men in their lives?

I think we’d be happier coming into marriage with that view, rather than expecting naturally sensitive husbands. (Now we can blame MIL for not providing the training.)

    One point about Yavne, Cleveland:

Some girls think that if they don’t live in a dorm, they’re missing out on a major part of the sem experience; since Yavne doesn’t have a dorm, these girls are reluctant to go.

    NOT TRUE!

Although you board with a family, you can request a house which has several boarders, so that it actually feels like a mini-dorm. Plus, you usually have the basement or attic to yourself, so you can invite friends over and really have dorm life.

The advantage, of course, is that you still have your space and privacy when you want it, which you don’t have in a real dorm.

Ettie, I’m sure there are some great Pesach cookbooks out there, but my recipe just won’t make it in! Mine is just a general version of Pesach cake, since they all taste similar (to me) anyways. As for the mass production, you always need lots of cake on Pesach for some reason. You could probably just triple, etc. real recipes.

Thanks, oomis; maybe you could share yours?

I use leftover challah in meatballs (in place of matzah meal) or chicken burgers, and in any other recipe that calls for breadcrumbs.

Actually, sometimes I secretly dub my meatballs or burgers “challah-balls/burgers” since I stretch the meat/chicken VERY far with challah…

Pesach Cake (excerpted from my soon-to-be-published “Pesach Cooking for the Seasoned Pesach-Maker”):

Beat lots of egg whites to make a HUGE snow.

Mix in yolks, lots of potato starch, 1/2 gallon oil (walnut or cottonseed), baking soda, sugar, more sugar (it needs something that will award it the name “cake”), and vanilla.

    Pour into several pans.

Into one pan, you can add cocoa, into another, add nuts, chocolate chips into another, and ALL 3 into another (that one will REALLY take the cake).

Bake to desired consistency (fudgy, firm, extra firm, burnt, etc.).
